The California Civ and Mod Project

It wasn't superior American numbers that won the war, but a superior army and superior leaders. The Mexicans just couldn't measure up to their American opponents.

I was refering more to the war in california, or at least that is what I could gather from my research.

It's spelled Californianos and I thinkl youre talking about Californian lancers

I think Long Beach should be on the city list, is an extremely busy port. Also, San Jose has huge economic and techonological influence currently because of its location in Silicon Valley. Other towns for consideration would be Irvine, Palo Alto, and Berkeley. The UU should be some kind of worker variation: the fourty niners, the 30's migrants, and the current immigrants from Mexico are all considerations.

so much focus on southern californa, no love for the north? it started up here maing ;) add Santa Rosa to there! it's a big town.

thanks, I had a hard time comming up with northern towns. I considered adding Long Beach and Oceanside, but I couldn't imagine a city in the middle of the desert being named either of those, and San Jose and Palo Alto are already in the city list. Besides, adding any more cities would be pretty much useless, considering that even on the largest map setting, the target city number is no greater than 6, and I already have 25 on the list. Anything more is just for making people feel good for themselves.

Sorry about not noticing San Jose and Palo Alto. Also, aren't new civs all about being ones for those who want to feel good about themself/city/country/state? :p

It might help us to give better feedback if you gave us a better idea of what you are planning. I take it that you are developing a Californian civilization, and a map of California/Nevada. How will this be executed, exactly? Are you making a historical scenario? A map for various random Civs to battle it out? A general Cali-themed mishmash? Your overall aim may help guide our suggestions.

Are you talking seriously???????

Is there a city named San Luis Obispo? :D

I am Spanish and sounds as a joke (no offense, its only that sound very strange for me).

Yes, there is, on the central Californian coast. I'm assuming that there was a bishop named Luis, at some point. Or possibly just a saint whose last name happened to be Obispo?

Yeah there is that was my third grade mission report (lol).

haha, I had my mission reports in 4th grade. I did mine on San Juan Capistrano.

As far as the plan is concerned, I will be making three things, a California Civ that will be added to the regular game, a map that can be playind with the regular ruleset, and a scenario using that map, that will have various california themed civs, instead of the default civs. I will also be changing/replacing the religions, improvements, and wonders to be more california themed.

California-themed religions? Well, Native American Polytheism to start, then Christianity, then New Age Spirituralism, then Scientology?

To the above:
you forgot the pentecostals,
It's in the city of Azusa where their huge expansion started and i have yet to know a scientologist or New Age. those religions where more adhered by upper class folks.

Don't forget radical environmentalism, and the ever-popular brands of collectivism. Then, of course, there's the peculiar fan-worship that many Californians shower on their movie stars in embarrassing abundance (priests of the Holy Church of Silver Screen Entertainment, I guess).

Does New Age Spiritualism also encompass the loons who believe in crystal power, psychics, 'raw foods', alien abductions, and all the other whacked-out stuff that seems to find a home in SoCal? Perhaps they worship at the Temple of the X-Files, home of the saints Scully and Mulder.

/bump

I can't doing any modding over the weekend, but if someone could figure out how exactly to add a new civ(ie steps to take), then that would help me a lot to actually get something together to be released.

Ok, I've been trying to get this think worked on, but I really need art work now, and I put up the civilopedia entry on the first page.
