The Capo's LH Gallery and Self-Help Thread!

yes. unless you figure a way to map the UVs. i couldnt back when i started on jefferson but havent tried lately. it may just be a uv mapping issue.

Yeah, I think I have to. It shouldnt' be that hard though. I just take that off, use the nonshader and then nifswap it on, I'm just being lazy because I figured this LH would take me an hour to make. Nothing ever goes exactly according to plan though I guess. Oh well.

You think it looks alright so far though? Basically MO just threw Washington's torso directly over the English King's model, which I dunno, didn't look right to me. So this is what I came up with instead. I am also going to get rid of that pesky shirt on Salamasina and give her some boobies. :goodjob:

I'm pretty sure I wont' get any objections to that.

I read your post about the Nagy LH. Well, I thought it would end like this. However, I will download your files in a minute and then look at your camera settings. Just to let you know: from what I know the production line was as follows
- someone turned Alex into Trudeau (someone already give me a link to it, but I lost it. Would be nice if anyone could give it to me again, maybe per pm to avoid spaming in the capos post.)
- cfkane turned Trudeau into Firefly
- I turned Firefly into Nagy
So, it's what you assumed. I am sure, that Firefly had the same problems with the mouth. The only thing there is, that cfkane covered that with a cigar. It is also possible that cfkane transformed the mouth with intention to make it fit better to a person that smokes a cigar. I would have to contact cfkane about this. (Maybe I could use a pipe instead of the cigar. Did anyone ever make a pipe for an LH I could use?) Don't know what's with Fireflys eyes. I can't remember that I made so crucial changes to them, but it could be that the problem is less obvious when the LH is unshadered (like cfkanes Firefly). However, I already did a nifswap with Firefly and Nagy. I could and will try to do the same with Trudeau and Alex, just as you said. Some time ago, but already after I handed the files over to you, I read that someone wrote about the issue that although one translates the bones the changes aren't visible in-game. I encountered the same issue with Nagy and other LHs. As solution for this the poster wrote that one should add another bone as child of the bone that should be moved. Did you ever tried this method when working on LHs? Could it help me solving the issue? If so, what would I have to do exactly? I guess the new bone would need to have the same name as its parent bone and the mesh would need to be assigned to the new bone instead of the old. Am I right so far? What values would I have to assign to the new bone (translation, rotation etc)? I should be able to do this all with nifskope, right? Is it this ways, theoretically, possible to make any LH work with any LH animation?

However, thank you for looking at the LH. I guess redoing the LH would be to much work for me. And I was also quite satisfied with it, besides of the eyes and the mouth of course.

EDIT: Don't mind for the Trudeau LH, I found it. From the screenshots I'd say the eye and mouth problem were not present with Trudeau.

Alright everyone, schedules schmedules (or whatever). I know most of you follow my mod's thread too, where I am working on a new mod. In that thread I have announced that the Polynesians will be added as a base civ. So because of this I am going to have to interrupt my regularly scheduled LHs (also I am awaiting the Alex LH to be finished so in the meantime I'm doing some improving on existing LHs) and work on fixing up some existing Polynesian LHs.

Right now I am working on fixing up Methyl's Kamehameha, which is a great LH but if you look at it in NifSkope it could use a bit of work, so I've decided to do it. I came accross a strange issue though; I ripped off Lincoln's collar/tie situation and used it for Kamehameha but for whatever reason no texturing is showing up. I can't seem to figure out what to do about this. Does anyone know? I have posted a screenshot of the WIP with the picture I am using as a model. I have also posted a screen showing where there is no texture for the tie and collar portion of the LH. If someone can tell me what to do here that would be great. I would also appreciate any suggestions you might have for me about the LH.

And to those who have been waiting on other things I said I'd do, do not worry. I am still planning on making them, like Ulmanis, Cartimandua, Ptolemy and Nasser et al, for example. I just have a heavy workload so with a little more patience you will have your LHs. And as always I try and keep everyone posted on what I am working on with screenshots and everything so you know I'm not sitting around on my ass... although I often do just sit around on my ass sometimes...

Great, once you've finished, I'd be interested in an imporved Kamehameha!

EDIT: Don't mind for the Trudeau LH, I found it. From the screenshots I'd say the eye and mouth problem were not present with Trudeau.

I can tell you more: I have the Trudeau LH installed in my game and I can assure you he has no problems with his face.

Yeah. Just tried my luck. You are right with Trudy: his eyes and his mouth are okay. I even did the nifswap with him. When I tried to nifswap the eyes I recognized that they are pretty much offside, even more after assign it to the former eyes parent. That must have something to do with the problem. So I decided to keep Trudys eyes and allign them to Nagy. The problem is, that there is a too high distance between the two eyeballs. This can not be fixed by reducing the size of the eyes or changing there position. So I tried to alter the eyebones and in nifskope that looked really good! Unfortunately inside the game the changes to the eyeball bones didn't take action. Finally I tried the method I described before - you know: the thing with the additional child bone - and thats result was exactly the problem we spotted before: the eyes turn out of their sockets. So I think cfkane had the same idea as I had which caused all this. There are two possibilities I could think of to solve this:
- seperate the eyeballs and allign them via their meshs instead of their bones; could lead to the same problem
- borrowing (fitting) eyes of a different LH; could be difficult and still lead to the same result
I will give the first idea a go at the evening. If you guys can think of anything else, let me know.

BTW: The mouth still has the same "warm" smile after nifswaping with Trudy. I believe this is a general problem of Alex, but it's also something I could live with...

BTW2: There is no recursive loop error after nifswapping with Trudy.

Nope, didn't work to seperate the eyes...

Well, on both. I based my work on cfkanes Firefly and cfkane based it on Trudeau. So: Trudeau->Firefly->Nagy. However, I fixed the eye-problem! You won't belive it but the final step is method that is already older than a year. I told you that after nifswapping with Trudy but keeping the latters eyes and playing around with the eyeballs bones, I got a solution that worked in nifskope, but not in-game. AFAIK this has been spotted often with a lot of LHs. As I never heard about a solution, or it least not the one I found now, I left this way, because I thought it is a dead end. I then found a way to tweak the effect, but it was not really satisfying. So I thought sitting down and take a look at some tutorials and found this: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=271331 As mentioned it is already older than a year and it was written for units. The basic information of the tutorial is, that whatever changes you make to the nodes in nifskope, it will be overwritten by the kfs in-game. But the kfs can be edited, too. The tutorial describes how to find the node that overwrites the changes in the nif. You simply have to change that node. It seems to me that nifskope bases its changes on the nifs nodes when calculating the animation, whereas civ4 uses the kfs data. Don't know what's the sense of this obviously redundant data. However, I've overwritten the translations in most of the kfs and in the civilopedia the eyes work perfectly now! I'll have to edit the rest of the kfs to correct all animations. I already gave Nagys glasses lenses. At the moment there are three problems:
- the lower teeth move outside the face sometimes; I am optimistic that I can fix this by simply moving it back and upwarts; don't know if the teeth are ever visible anyways - if not, I could even remove them
- the "warm" smile; I'll try to fix this by working on the bones and then editing the kfs, just as I did with the kfs; if nothing helps I'll move Nagy backwards again, away from the camera, to at least tweak this problem
- I have to work a bit on the uv texturing to tweak some ugly texturations on some surfaces
So basically I get it running! Thank you for your help, The Capo! The idea of nifswapping with Trudy was the initial step to solve this!

:woohoo:    :thanx:

I have a question:

Can I add leaderheads to for example CIVGold Mod ? and how can I do it.

(if that won't work, how do i do it with Vanilla Bts ? )

Its pretty easy to do, most of CivGOld's LHs are modular so you just have to look at the XML and alter it to fit whatever needs you have. I will not explain the entire process to you here as there are plenty of tutorials out there you could check out.

EDIT: I have placed a few tutorials on the first page of this thread for adding and making LHs. So I hope I don't get anymore questions like this...

Well, while everyone is patiently awaiting my next releases I have yet again saved another leaderhead from an obscure demise. I present to you, by the notorious dutchking...

TEDDY ROOSEVELT

I'm sure most Americans know about Teddy pretty well, and this probably goes for any other student of history but for those who don't he was the 26th President of the United States. Teddy was the uncle of FDR as well. He was a soldier, naturalist, explorer, hunter, historian, author, governor, and police chief in his day; quite a renaissance man. He also vastly improved the United States' naval forces as well as bolstered its position in global affairs, and was quite instrumental in America's transformation from an isolationist country to a true imperialist power. He coined the phrase "walk softly and carry a big stick," as well as utilized "gunboat diplomacy" to further America's position in the world. He fought in the Spanish-American war (as part of the famous "Rough Riders" cavalry brigade), and was instrumental in the construction of the Panama Canal. He was also known as a lover of nature and animals as he began the U.S.'s national park system. Anyway, here he is...

Kamehameha and Salamasina are next (because I am replacing Philippenes with Polynesia in my next module pack) then I'm back on my advertised course...

...Capo.
You just assured that I'd never play another American leader again. Because now I have the ultimate killing machine.

A man so awesome he was shot in the chest during a speech, deduced that the bullet was lodged in bone and therefore wouldn't be a good idea to remove, then continued giving his speech.

where is that course ? bottom of first post ?

Honestly, there is no real course. I make what I want when I want. That's just whatI do, I can explain every nuance all the time. Just believe I am working for you.. That's all you need to do....

Fine by me (I would do the same thing if I were you), but since you said you would be following the advertised course I was wondering where you advertise it :)

Just believe I am working for you.. That's all you need to do....

ok, then I believe my LH requests will eventually be answered :D
