Round 1 of class rebalancing is coming thru... :D

We made many changes yesterday. A lot of these were bug fixes, and many bug fixes will affect damage one way or the other. So just because you don't see a specific change referenced below, doesn't mean it didn't change.

With that said, here are the specific changes we made in reference to my previous post:

1) We buffed the base points and coefficients of many warrior dps abilities. We didn't do as much to tanking abilities.

We buffed the base points and coefficients of many Ret abilities.

We buffed the base points and coefficients of many Feral cat abilities.

2) We lowered the base points and coefficients of many mage abilities, but lowered Fire more than the other two.

3) We nerfed Shadow Word: Death, but it is possible we didn't nerf it enough. It should not be Shadow's biggest spell.

4) We returned Searing Pain's damage to its 3.3.5 levels.

5) We increased the benefit of resilience by 50% for players level 80 and below. The tooltips will probably not reflect this change.

We don't have any other changes to announce at this time. I am reluctant to mention additional classes or specs that we are looking at currently for fear of instilling excitement or panic.

The patch nerfed my mages survivability so much  I used to have 'frost armor', but they removed it, so now I have to constantly eat after I die.

And since I'm only lvl 24 (not my highest toon ever, but it is atm :p), I can't make water and food out of thin air anymore. Mwa!

anyone know how they changed rage? I'm curious how this works now.

They have 'normalized' it, for warriors. You'll no longer get more rage from crits - only from faster weapon hits.

Basically it'll make your rage less dependant on gear, and more predictable thru out the levelling process until end-game.

Took my ret paladin and new frost dk out for a spin, yesterday and today...

The holy power combo thingie is a pain to watch out for, in addition to the 2 procs (hand of light, and art of war). I never did like the combo system, which is the reason why my rogue is still languishing at lvl 50... :ack: I can get used to this but the days of facerolling my pally are over.

My 2-hander frost dk is pretty awesome. :) Not very geared but seem to do great dmg atm.

Played with my fury warrior a few days earlier - decent, if you keep your single target and aoe dps separate. Also 2 procs (raging blow when enraged, and free slams) to watch out for. My warrior is pretty geared but I don't feel like I am doing much damage...

Have been playing my low-levels for a bit - frost mage and shadow priest. I absolutely love the redesigned levelling experience, and interface. :)

Every time you level, a msg will appear to show you what you can learn now, or to use your new talent point. All your spells/abilities are shown in the spellbook, incl the level at which they can be learnt. And of course, choosing your specialization at lvl 10 really helps to keep your focus. Plus your signature ability. Nice.

Comparing my demo warlock with my protection warrior, the talents for the latter was a lot easier to pick. I'm quite pleased with that tree (despite loosing Shockwave) although I haven't tried it yet. The demo tree is a mess on lower levels imo. With all the focus on whipping up a new demon and healing I wonder if that tree is intended to have a pvp focus. I hope they make some changes to it in Cata.

Seems a AH sell is no longer announced in the chat frame. Fine by me if it makes AH work better.

Another good thing is that they've enabled the random BG option for lower levels, although judging from LFD activity I'd say there won't be any BGs for a while yet.

@Thrawn - you're on the Oceanic server Khaz'goroth? Is it a normal PvE server? Is it dominated by Alliance?

I'm thinking of starting a new worgen character for Cata but I don't want to do it on my PvP KT server anymore... :ack:

Yeah it's a normal PvE server, I don't think it's completely dominated by alliance, we do have one of the better oceanic raiding guilds on horde, and horde tends to hold wg more than alliance.

Actually, I've noticed several things about the new patch.

I never run out of mana. I have yet to need to drink, and I had to do that wacko mage spell that regenerates mana only after I rez.

I'm very weak because the buff 'frost armor' or whatever doesn't exist anymore, so I have hardley any defence.

And also there's a new mage spell that kills enemies several levels higher than me in 3 hits. It costs a lot of mana, but that's not a problem since I don't run out of mana lol.

The patch has probably overpowered most classes, against current live content. I had levelled my shadow priest (in crap gear, except for heirlooms) to lvl 37, easily taking on mobs and such.

Wait till when the Cataclysm Azeroth has arrived, and then we shall see. :ack:

Yeah, we'll see. :) And the shaman quests that you do to get totems, you don't need to do them to get the totems anymore, but they're still in the game.

Does anyone else here spend a ton of time on the AH? I'm a miner and I sell all my ore for pretty good prices, so my lvl 26 main has 80g atm. I would have more, but silk cloth is really cheap atm and I've been hoarding it to level my tailoring.

I used to spend quite some time on the ah, buying mats, crafting, reselling for profit etc. At one point I had around 1000 glyphs on the ah at once, plus whatever gems and enchanting mats I was selling. I've stopped doing it for now, as it did take up a bit of time, but it's what got me up to 137k gold. ;)

Pfffft... I got about 140k gold on KT and another close to 50k on LB (after just spending 15k on master flight for 3 characters yeah but still)... :mischief:

My warlock has a lot of power as well, the problem is that my Voidwalker minion has not and is worse at keeping aggro. Before the patch I used to fight an equal level elite (Ogre in Dire Maul) and could keep 2 dots and hurl a shadow bolt on him without loosing aggro. Tested it again yesterday and after 2 quick deaths I had to do with the weakest dot and nothing else but keeping minion alive. Couldn't even use that Doomguard because CoA was too strong, and he won't attack without it!

All that spell power bonus converted to int increased my mana with 70-80% so no there's no problem with mana now. All useless unfortunately.

I spend a lot of time at AH involuntarily waiting for LFD tool to assemble a group for me. Seems to be a general boom now, it's easy to sell stuff. Lots of players activating their accounts for the expansion perhaps.

While I have enough gold now, when my warlock was poorest he once had to sell the trousers he was wearing to be able to buy the thread for the new ones.

Use a felguard, by going demo? That's the only tanking minion I'm comfortable with, in later levels. I've soloed elites with it, often enough. :)

Use your wand.
Yes it's (or used to be) a good way of getting the remaining damage possible without toppling threat and getting aggro. Still it's frustrating to be throttled like that.

I am demo and have always been. The felguard is a squishy. Perhaps it could generate more threat for me to dish out some more damage but I'm sure I wouldn't have time for anything but channeling health. I use it for general grinding but if I'm up against an elite I've always trusted the voidwalker. It's glyphed to have extra stamina and demonic empowerment gives it some more.

I'm pretty sure the vw's threat have been nerfed. Perhaps it was OP before. I remember a fight were I battled a red (5 level above) elite and all the health funneling and mana tapping not only required me to use my healthstone and potion, but all my first aid too so I had to make new during the fight. But it would always keep aggro if I didn't use the shadow bolt. Ah well, I guess those days are over. As they say: it will be balanced at 85.
