The Classic Maya 2016-10-05

@LL: I feel that HP tinkering, well, detracts from the elegance if the system. It makes it harder to compare units to one another.

@Plot: Thanks. I'll be trying it out.

Edit: The Mayanized army works great. Many thanks! :hatsoff:

I recently d/l newest version and replaying as Copan.
I really like the changes from the older version. It's really gooder.
I picked Copan figuring they're enough out of the way I could
concentrate on cultural aspects. Being industrious I thought I
could develop the area ok. I should have paid attention.
The barbarians were a serious problem until better units
became available which hindered development. Worse is
when I discovered I could not clear dry forest. Still got cities
near enough to the luxuries but any chance to grow will
involve moving north which will mean lots more warring.
This is another scenario I will probably try all the civs. :goodjob:

Audacem Fortuna adiuvat!

Playing as Caracol, I took the risk of an early war against Copán, which paid off spectacularly; after some fighting around the ruined Copanec city in the middle of the screen, I managed to convince Yax Pasaj to give me no less than three cities in return for peace, including Quriguá. My empire expanded from seven to ten cities in a stroke, and all for the loss of two warriors. :woohoo:

(If you look hard, you'll see Plotinus's new Maya Army treading water next to El Puente.)

TLC, this looks spectacular. I am dling it right now and will be giving it some 'special' time today (on my laptop while sitting in class :) ).
Thnx for your hard work.

Hassenpfeffer... bisch a Schwob? Heidenei... gell do glodsch! :)

Happy greetings from New York, NY!

I've been thinking about that for aztec. I'm essentially a cutn'paster so it would be difficult but I'd love to see it done. If you find any suitable graphic let me know.
give us a guide on what icons you need and buildings too. I did try to come up with a barracks before but couldn't think of anything suitable.

Well, this is what remains of my old tech icon request list:

Trade: Some typical Mesoamerican trade goods would be good - feathers, cacao beads, precious stones, sort of thing.

Corvée: A worker gang.

Calendar: Sun and moon, perhaps?

Divine Monarchy: Carving of ruler with deity above

Stela Cult: A stela, not identical to the building icon.

Royal Inscriptions: Glyphs.

Militarism: A warrior?

Warrior Cult: I need ideas for this one.

Dynastic History: Yax Pasaj and Yax K'uk' Mo' from Altar Q.

Fortifications: Wall or tower with a look-out on.

Navigation: Ships.

Pyramids: Pyramids.

Collective Rule: A Maya noble and a Toltec standing next to one another? (Thinking Chichén Itzá here.)

Total War: Burning village, or pillagers.

I suppose this shoud keep you occupied for a while. :p ;) :)

Hey! Here are some icons. i included my icons for currency and new ones for Corveé and Calendar. Hope they're ok for you.

You caught me... it is Egyptian! You don't know how hard it is to find a good mayan worker when you need one! I have got one other graphic that might do. Will let you know...

Version 0.8 is up!

DL it from the first post. :)

The most immediately visible change is to unit graphics - Plotinus has adapted the C3C Maya King unit for the Army, Quinzy has modified utahjazz7's Tecpacuauhtli to wield a maquahuitl instead of a sword, making for a more fitting Yajaw K'ak', and the PTW Aztec King replaces the patriarch-looking dude as the (military) Great Leader.

Further eye candy is provided by various additions to building graphics, tech icons, etc. There's even some additions to the 'Pedia.

The chief gameplay change is that the Raider unit has been strengthened (it's 6.1.2 now), and it's finall got it's capture ability, which was erroneously disabled in previous releases. This fixed the long-standing problem that the AI refused to build the unit. I'm pretty well satisfied with how unit interactions work out now, and with AI force compositions, so I'll probably won't tinker more with unit strengths and abilities, unless you lot find something all too insufferable.
