The Conquest Training Game

So it is definately something you can do. I mean heck, If Detlef can get it figured out anybody can  !

Like my SGOTM3 cheef Mauer say (the man who gives us france brothels): you can defnetly do it.

@Paris: come and take a look, you have credit.

Dan, if you come back and want to help us in the game, I will give an extra day or two to let you pick it up. I mean after schmiddi post that is. And don't worry about making mistakes, this is a training game. I don't think our goal is to shatter any records, or even win at that. It's just to help us learn some of the basics. And like ainwood said, it will allow us to see that a game is still winnable even with goofs.

I will play, if you guys don't make me feel dumb about messing up  and I just figured out how to make the little faces :)

hey guys sorry about messing up and not posting here

been a hecktech 2 weeks of painting and renovating.
I have got a bunch of stuff i have to get all done.

(more renovating)

thoughts: the greeks made some dubios unit movements. maybe they are the next to attack us. I guess recapturing babylon city will have to wait.
We soon need Chivalry, as the horsemen won't do long

Feel free to pick on me. ;)

Ok, I guess this means it is my turn. I can't play tonight, but hopefully I can get it done and on here tomorrow. Maybe Mauer can come over and help me. :)
I just have one question. Is it good to trade literature for one worker

May I suggest that you all spend some thoughts on what your next goals are.

The big question is: revolting to monarchy now? or when?

You need luxuries. Do you want to get the German silks or the Greek dyes? Or (and) do you want to join the fight against France and get Marseilles? Or do you want to conquer Babylon first? Do you form alliances?
What are the pros and cons for each alternative?

Do you want to send out suicide galleys?

And then there are minor points like IMHO creating a scientist and setting research to 0%, lux to 10.

IMHO you will learn more by voicing your thoughts and getting feedback on it.

It depends on how is the whole situation. If the other AI's already have lit, than it's ok to trade it (if you don't, the AI do). If you have the monopol on it, you can earn somthing more.

You are right tao.

So, here are my thoughts:

We should destroy Babylon complitly bevor we switch to monarchy (I want not loose more city between the anarchy pariod).

Than we should hurry to clear our continent, starting with the greece and than the germans. The jungle is our bad and our luck at same time. Bad: we have to work all this jungle tiles after we conquerd it. Good: the AI is hemmed on his productivity, he can't build fast.

Some suicide galleys make sence, we can find unused iles or another continent with the rest of the AI's.

The culture flip shows us, we need more cultural buildings at the outer citys. I like bibliotheks to decrease my culture. I think we can build them faster then temples.

OK, no more ideas at the moment, but i think Mauer, schmiddi, friendlyfire and dan have some more.

Before I disagree ;) please tell us not only what you want to do, but why you intend to do it. Why not revolt NOW before attacking Babylon? Why do you want to take them out completely? Do you know about starving AI cities down to size 1 in order to prevent flips? How do you want to fight the darn Greece hoplites? Why not get the German silk and make peace afterwards? Did you think about forming alliances? With whom? etc.

Maybe the other players also want to ass there thoughts ...

about the literature worker: many others already had lit and (I think) you never have to many workers

About war goals: I would suggest taking the two greek cities that are easy to connect and give use an aditional luxury. See if we can get rome to peace. Then take care of the babylonians (whichever way)

What are the advantages of monarchy over republic in your eyes?

  1. no war weariness
  2. free unit support of 2 (town) or 4 (city) units
  3. military police limit of 3

Well, we definately need to get our hands on more land. Scorewise, for tile count and cit moods. Babylon and Greece seem to be right at our threshold, so they are obviously the easiest to get to, and the most likely targets. If we decide to go after Greece hops with just horses and swords we will lose many a chinaman. Alliances would be great, and even at a price can pay off in the long run. More land=more cities=more citizens=more gold=more units and on and on.

I'll have to be honest and say that I haven't opened the sav on the last couple of turns, so I am just kind of winging this. If we are at war with too many people, especially an overpowering one like a Roman Legion, then we might want to tidy that up. If it is a fake war then we really don't have a problem.

I think our production decisions, MMing, and overall gameplay to this point have been somewhat lacking. I know this is a training game, and I have only been playing Civ3 for about 4 or 5 months now, but we can definately tighten the reigns. If we don't though, there are always people like tao to come in and straighten our path for us though.

@tao-Maybe I missed a post somewhere, did you take over for MB?

EDIT:Also, temples and spears are rarely if ever in my build queue. I will build libraries, but again rarely will do this except in my core cities or as late game antics.

Don't be so sure. People seem to get mesmerised by hoplites. They are only 3 defence. Horses can take them down or knock hit points off them, and half those that fail retreat. Swords are as powerful as hoplites in attack, so a vet sword will usually kill a regular hoplite on even territory. If you attack with horses first then swords you can take Greek cities without heavy losses. Cats are another way some people weaken them. I'm personally not convinced.

Well, I was just looking at the terrain there around lower Greece. They do have some pretty good defensive terrain, and I don't think our production is up to the task. Under ideal circumstances I could see this though. It seems to be the only way to go. I would rather take on the hops than try to make something out of all that jungle.

Well, I have some good news and some bad news. You decide which is which. I won't be able to continue in this vanilla game for a while. I have a friend  (yes it's really true) at work that is going to borrow it for a while. He has been lurking, unregistered, around this site for a while, and it came up in conversation. So being the gracious person that I am  I offered to let him borrow it. I don't know how long he will have it, but I should be back in here. Hopefully I don't have to restore the game or anything :) .

hmmm.........are you guys still playing this. Sorry about the flake out, I should have it back in a couple of weeks though. Would still like to come back in here and finish this up, if you guys are still gonna play.

I've had some other rather pressing stuff to attend to. :(
Seems to be a bout of this going around. Happened to me this weekend, and is certainly understandable. Unfortunately, we all can't live in Civland every waking hour :p .
