The Council of Nations - TWTUD Subthread

Italy votes NAY on resolution 003-18. We needed a guided outline of the purpose and powers these subcommittees hold. We may be swayed by a revised version of this resolution with these guidelines included.

The Union of Commonwealth States votes Nay on resolution 003-18 for reasons similar to that stated by Italy in addition to the fact that a problem in any region can easily spread to the rest of the globe due to multi-continent nations.

The sub committees would have no power persay, simply serve as a forum in which countries of the specific regions could voice their concerns and fears, without pressure from outside powers who do not reside in the same region and hold no real sway there. This would prevent conflict from spreading out of a region.

Membership would consist of all nations in the region, including colonies. Thus Italy, for example, would be in both the European and African sub committee, the USA would be in the North and South American committee and the Asian sub committee, etc. Only members of the region would be able to draft resolutions and vote in each sub-commitee. While other nations not in the region could sit in and comment, they would be unable to vote.

The sub-committees would be able to draft resolutions that are supported by a region. This would allow the sub-commitee to sponsor resolutions that benefit their region, giving a more unified backing of resolutions. Or they could, possibly, pass resolutions pertaining only to their area, such as trade deals, arms limitations, or moves to curb certain activites such as smuggling in a specific area. This could be added to the resolution later, as an addendum.

Switzerland abstains from 003-18 (which is supposed to be 002-19)

Members of the global forum, I speak to you now with the belief that the Council is at a crossroads. On one path we have the opportunity to preserve peace and continued prosperity in the world; the other, this global body becomes defunct due to its inabilities to take action.

We have all watched and softly spoken as more powerful nations take advantage of weaker ones. We were one of the few, though not alone, in voicing outrage over Nippons attacks on Spain in order to possess the Philippines. Additional nations expressed their disbelievement when the United States annexed Mexico and established a slave trade with Liberia to eliminate independence activists. Finally now, as Nippon and Russia corner China for their own purposes, no other member aside from Germany has stood to help a nation or prevent a travesty from occurring.

This is where the Commonwealth takes a stand, just as the Council of Nations should. I propose resolution 001-20;

I. Condemnation of the actions taken by the United States in their annexation of a sovereign state, Nippon for their aggressive attacks in the Far East, Russia for their aggressive attacks in the Far East, and Brazil for their aggressive attacks in South America.

II. Trade Embargos upon Nippon and Russia until they cease hostilities toward China.

III. Following the passage of the this resolution a vote is to take place immediately on whether the Council is to form a coalition to take military action against Russia and Nippon, with seperate votes for each.

IV. In the future the immediate voting on whether the Council will take military action against any nation that has attacked another and is the aggressor.

I am aware that this is a long shot resolution and that the council is unlikely to take a stand. Should this occur, I and my nation will have lost complete confidence in this world body.

Prime Minister Nehru of the Union of Commonwealth States

Eire votes Yay.

Switzerland would like a clarification on point four.

IV. In the future the immediate voting on whether the Council will take military action against any nation that has attacked another and is the aggressor.

The Boer Republic would vote yay if the part concerning the United States is removed. As we have stated before the United States made a decision to defend their own country from loss of innocent life. The annexation as we have seen has not had as many "bad" effects as everyone else was saying. The problem with the deportations have been resolved and we see this annexation as completed and legal. We will withhold voting until we get a response from the sponser of the resolution.

We propose to divide the resolution into nation specific parts. ie
001-20a pertains to US
001-20 b Nippin
001-20c Russia
and 001-20d Brazil

Agreed we should seperate it. Does the sponsor need to ok this?

America votes Nay on Resolution 001-20. Though we oppose the actions of the Brazilians and American businessmen are angered by the war in China, to vote no on the part pertaining to our own nation, but supported the other parts would be hypocritical of us.

And the Commonwealth is one to talk about annexing nations, since your holdings in England are a direct result of your annexation of the Congress of British Workers, which was a "sovereign state".

A state of the British Realm that was considered a threat by the entire globe and returned to our possession. We agree on seperating the resolution into different parts.

001-20a pertains to US NAY
001-20 b Nippon NAY
001-20c Russia NAY
001-20d Brazil YAY

Our resons are that the annexation of Mexico was for the U.S. national security. Nippon has stated its reasons being for preemptive reasons. The other incedent are in our eyes just an act of aggression by Brazil. This incedent we feel could have been avoided with diplomatic talks.

Nippon launched a pre-emptive strike for reasons of our own security, and we only moved once evidence was provided that the Sino Alliance was preparing for a war with the Nipponese Empire, with the goal of conquering Korea.

We reiterate that Nippon itself shall gain no territory in the armistice.

We vote NAY on 001-20a, for reasons provided by the Boer Republic and the United States, NAY on 001-20b, for reasons provided by ourselves just now, NAY on 001-20c for the same reasons, and vote YAY on resolution 001-20d, though we favor immediate commencement of peacetalks between Argentina and Brazil.

We are changing our votes as we did not know that this attack was for preemptive reasons. Thankyou for that infor Nippon.

Peace talks are winding down. We are almost at a conclusion, we have one major and one minor disagreement left, out of about 8 or 9 points.

either way,

001-20a US NAY
001-20 b Nippon NAY
001-20c Russia NAY
001-20d Brazil YAY

America votes

001-20a Nay
001-20b Abstains
001-20c Abstains
001-20d Abstains

Will give you NPC answers at a later date.
