We received an official announcement from Firaxis at 1:48 PM EST announcing Civ3 has gone gold!!! Here is the full message:

Infogrames and FIRAXIS Games are thrilled to announce that the ultimate version of the greatest strategy game of all time will soon be in the hands of the millions of fans around the world who've been eagerly awaiting it's completion. Sid Meier's Civilization III has gone gold and will ship to retailers October 30th with games reaching store shelves soon after. The most highly anticipated game of the year, Civilization III embodies all of the elements of it's predecessors that have made it a four-million-selling franchise and many new and improved features that will make this the greatest Civ experience ever.

Pre-orders for Civilization III and Civilization III Limited Edition are topping the charts at major retailers. The estimated retail price of the standard product is $49.99 and the special limited edition is $59.99.

Gone gold means it's done, dude. Finished. Ready to be burned on the CD, shoved into boxes and shipped to the stores.
In other words, it's a good day.

Nah, it's just a good day. It's not a *great* day till I get my grubby little hands on the Civ3 CD.

[party] Let the party begin!!!
Not since the release of Civ original I've been so exited!!!
Hopefully it'll come to Europe very fast now!!!

Unfortunately, that is not so. I'm afraid the game will come to Europe only in the last two days of this year, or most likely in January of 2002. :(

Yes... I already checked with one of the biggest game stores in Portugal, and with amazon.co.uk, along with other sources, and everything seems to point that way...

Why do you think Amazon.com can't sell to Portugal? Because merchants want to do their business as usual, even though that is bad for their customers.

I guess they are trying to do the same thing as they do with DVD: Force Europeans to buy in Europe, but at the expense of *waiting several months* more than the USA. That's not fair!

Right now, I don't know how I will be able to get my copy of Civ III, by the end of October... :(

I already have a thread running on this theme. If you can help, go there.

Get an illegal copy!

That's what I always do when I'm in Europe (or even Mexico, where everything seems to take months to get across the border from Texas where I usually live).

Copies should become *available* about the same time they do in the USA - and they'll probably be cheaper, too. Don't you have a black market somewhere? I know Poland is full of 'em - maybe 'cause it's so close to Russia...

The game is shipping to UK retailers for the same release date as US retailers...woohooo :goodjob:

Online retailers such as EB UK and Amazon.co.uk haven't yet updated their orginal release dates which were estimates...

There are no black markets here (after all, we're a civilized country).

But if you send me a copy, preferably "Legal", I'll pay you generously.

Where did you hear that?
What is your source?
Are you a UK games seller? :-)

Hi Thunderfall! Thank you for all your efforts!

In fact, I have just bought the strategy book using your gift, a couple of hours ago, as you will certainly be informed by Amazon.
:goodjob:

But I am from Portugal, remember?, and Amazon.com does not sell software to my country, and therefore I cannot buy it from Amazon.com, nor any other place (as far as I know).

Actually, I already created a thread because of this in: "Can I buy Civ 3 From outside USA? "
You can check it out if you want.

But, thank you anyway.

I assume you ordered other things in addition to the strategy guide, because in order to use the coupon codes you need to spend at least $75 for the first coupon code OR $50 for the second coupon code if your credit card is Visa. :)

I pre-ordered both Collector Edition and the Strategy Guide. The grand total is less than $70! :)

YOU SAID IT!!

Yes, Thunderfall, I also bought another book. My shopping list was the following:

===================================
Subtotal: $ 38.94
Shipping & Handling: $ 16.97
Promotional Certificates: - $ 10.00
------
Total Before Tax: $ 45.91
Estimated Tax: $ 0.00
------
Purchase Total: $ 45.91
===================================
Without the discount it would have been $55.91. ;-)

I used this discount:
"$10 off $50 - Visa Users. Code: VSAREWARDDSS expire on: 10-31"
because my order was superior to $50, without the discount.

Thanks a lot! It worked for me! :)
