The Dawn of a New Civilization: Civ3 goes gold!

1) There seem to be 2 prices or 2 different collectors editions - ive seen 2 prices quoted, 1 as $75 for the 'collectors edition tin' and $60 for a 'special edition' Whats this all about then?

2) I've already preordered my copy of standard edition from Amazon.com for $45. Is it possible to cancel this order and reorder using the coupon does anyone know?

3) I looked up the Amazon.co.uk entry for Civ3 and it mentions multiplayer support, and is due out 30th Dec - yet the Amazon.com one (the one being talked about here) does not mention multiplayer support - anyone know anything about that?

All that aside... consider me missing in action for 2 years once I finally get this thing :-)

forget Q 3 i see that theyre both the same

The official press release from Firaxis only mentioned 2 versions: Collectors Edition and Standard Edition. The "'special edition" should be the same as the "collectors edition.

Not sure, you can look it up in the help section of Amazon.com:

I have preordered CD's and DVD's from Amazon and had the good fortune to have the Item in hand before they were available in stores.

I don't know if it will be like that again but ...we can dream!!

Thanks for the info JavalTigar!
You just convinced me to buy it from amazon!

at amazon.com you can cancel an order as long as it hasn´t shipped yet. So it´s possible to cancel and order another version.

Oh my god this is so cool. I'm gonna bug my parents into using the credit card to buy this stuff, thanks for the discount Thunderfall. I'll pay my folks back later.

That was my plan too! I made them pre-order it last night. I'm really gonna get this game! :D :D :D :D

Yeah???! Really?

And what do you say to someone like myself who is considering to buy a portable PC, just to be able to play Civ 3 in his bed (my long time dream :D ), besides having already two PCs at home, connected by a small network???

I don't know if I should be proud for doing that or feel a horribly addicted stupid!

I pre-ordred mine two nights ago. Now that the day is getting close, I feel like a kid at christmas. :)

Thanks for the coupon TF! I bought the guide and the standard edition (I don't have any use for a tin box). You have my gratitude and I have 10 bucks!:D

you know...

my mates where talking about computer games and stuff today... and i was like...'yawn', games don't really interest me anymore.

Except civ.

What else do you need?
Inform and clarify your friends!!!

The Civ3 has gone gold
And soon we’ll see all things about we have told.
The timer counts down days
That left before.
And Forum freezes
In waiting for release.

Gee, I haven't been here for a little bit *oops*, I have been flat out working on my website, but I have read this thread entirely!

Gee, I dunno what some of y'all are whining about having no credit card, and that you may have to wait a bit longer.

How about poor me!? No only do I NOT have a credit card, but I ALSO live in Australia so I'll have to wait too (prolly), and if that's not bad enough, none of it makes any difference either way, because I need a WHOLE NEW PUTER!!!

I checked the requirements, and there isn't ONE aspect of this machine that is good enough. Pah!

I probably wont be able to play even when it DOES come out here, because I wont be able to afford a new puter any time soon! :crazyeyes

Anyways, patience is a virtue :)

While I am here, I woudl just like to point out something else. I know that it goes without saying, and I know that it is highly possible that it has been mentioned in another thread or post by some thoughtful person, but I don't exactly have time to run through every thread right now, so, I'll just spit it out...

I used to come here ALL the time, and I read just about every post, but when I heard that CIV III was coming close, I kinda gave up on Civ II. It's just the way I am. I am a VERY "out with the old, in with the new" type of person, but as soon as Civ III is out, (AND when I am able to play it), I'll be here ALL the time, just like before...

Hmmm, but that's not my point... My point is that ever since I met Thunderfall, I have noticed that he is just about the most friendly, helpful and dedicated webmasters ever. I have seen him time and time again trying to please people, and asking what CF members want, and I know that he takes into account everyones suggestions, and tries to make sure everyone can fit in where they would like...

CF is a great site, and it will always keep growing, and it will always be a winner, because of TF, and his dedication to ALL members, and to this website,

...so what I am getting at is that I would like to insist that anyone that CAN purchase Civ games or any Civ related material through this site, the please go out of your way to do it. Even if it's not the cheapest, even if it's not the quickest way.

Just do it to show Thunderfall how much you appreciate this site, and how much better it is to have a friendly, and helpful Civ community that you can (unlike some larger cive sites - not mentioning any names), BE a part of!

I know how much Thunderfall would feel appreciated if many members were supporting his efforts, and this community with such gestures of appreciation and good will.

Three cheers for TF and three more for CF !!!

MrLeN :goodjob:

P.S., If it's already been said, then this is just a reminder *hehe* :D

Yes, I totally agree. CFC is the best! TF is the best! :king:

I started out at the other site (you know which one). Seems very messy and kinda confusing. Then I discovered this site and I never went back again. :) Updates are fast, loads of Civ info that are well-organised and the people at the forums are great. :goodjob: So I am staying here.

I couldn't agree most with what you said MrLeN.

Thunderfall and also Matrix (editor of GOTM), are really helpful nice guys and they do have a passion like all of us around here: It's called Civilization! :)

Long Live CivFanatics! :king:
Long Live Thunderfall and Matrix! :king:

I also totally agree with you, MrLeN! Thun really has a passion and loves to do what he does for the CFC and the CFC members. ;) And he's a great chap to work with! :goodjob:

 Who? Me?!?

Well, ever since "virually late" MadMelkor brought Stormerne's idea to make the GOTM, I found that such a great idea and had such a spirit to make something out of that idea, so I volunteered to administrate it. It's just fun to do! But thanks for the compliment! :D

Oh, and to stay on topic: I'm gonna order Civ3 (standard) using my father's credit card, and using CivFanatics' coupon! ;)
