The EAST Asian Thread (no rasicm allowed in here)

Sue them:lol:

I think it is better all Chinese and Indian take their bows and fishing net, go into the forrests, ship out into the river, hunt things, fish crabs, sit in front of their yard rounded by thatched cottages, singing songs when lighing up dinner fire, escape from tigers and crocodiles, be curious at cars, planes, cellphones, machines, films, refrigerators, computers... So peaceful and lovely life without noises, what the two Eastern Heaven!

So you are all for screwing up the environment just because "west did it"?

Why don't you just purge all minority groups because "US done it"?

Why don't you just put people in concentration camp because "Nazi done it"?

You are totally insane:(

You are.

The stand of Chinese government agitate vast political spectrum throughout left-wing to right-wing. Yet Chinese people buying into the anti-west opium and don't see the problem. We should not let other people united against us, try to find their differences and exploit them.

Though I don't agree with him, I think you misunderstand his words.
What Eoc try to imply is that "West wants us to remain undevelped and thus be eco-friendly, they're neglecting our rights to pursue the same living standard they're enjoying, ect ect".

I know that's his intention, but the way he expressing the issue is bizarre, and making us enemy to both left-wingers and right-wingers.

Well, both. Is it economically and/or ecologically stable?

Economically, I think at least in the coming 15 years, China can still have a relatively high GDP growth rate. But I'm not sure what'll happed then, will China turned into another "Latin America", or will it keep developing and finally become a developed country? Too many factors should be calculated, hence I don't think anybody can predict precisely.

Ecologically, you all know the price of industrialization:lol:
I'm worried about the environmental damage caused these years, finally China and especially Chinese people will have to repay. But so far, I think it's a bit exaggerating to claim the ecosystem will "collapse".

Don't worry, we already are.:crazyeye:

I found plarq is always ready to fight me since I'v known his ID for about 2 years before. And he take me as the RED spokesman for granted. But actuation, he lost all the humors he has had when he tried to reply my post:cry:

No, they dont, but how many of those 1.5 billion have listened to the Beatles? Or Michael Jackson? Or seen about a hundred English language films? Or heard David Beckham speaking? Or Barack Obama? Face it, East Asians in general are quite familliar with western culture, and many hundreds of millions of them would have some grasp of English.
You mean dubbed English movie, translated Beckham/Obama speeches?
and I belileve local stars are way more popular than Beatles and MJ:lol:

Your memory does the service not-so-well, it is 4 years ago. When someone posted a news story about Shanwei riot. You blamed them "pesky western media trying to demonize China". Guess what? It was true! In official newspapers! They said such clash happened and gunshot was fired. (Although they used their usual trick and calling rioters were "people who didn't know truth".)

Sorry, I can't take this seriously. You may not be a Red (Actually being Maoist is frowned upon by the authority, if my memory served me right, Monthly Review claimed several Maoists in Zhengzhou were sentenced to three years in prison for spreading Maoist leaflets). But certainly an arrogant Chinese nationalist apologist.

I have a sense of humor, but the government in China has better one.

plarq, you should start a thread, "Fight me, eoc" !

by the way, I've known you that long?

My car came from East Asia. So did my dishes and some of my lamps.

Ditto. The fraction of my stuff that is "Hecho en China" is ridiculously high. Finding a 'made in the USA' is like finding a four-leaf clover. Amusingly, my first one in a while was at the local dollar/closeout store.

Whats Hong Kong like?

They have the same cultural barriers as Japan. They do slightly better than Japan, but they still don't really teach children to speak English.
Cool! So learning Korean won't be a total waste, then. :)

I mean, I want to learn Korean, but I fear I may be wasting my time (both due to the difficulty) and the fact that a friend told me you can go to Korea and speak English and most people will be receptive (though obviously not like a fluent speaker).

Are Mongolia and Tibet really East Asia?

Tibet is only ever considered East Asian through China, but Mongolia is almost always considered East Asian.

Whats Hong Kong like?

In what way?

You could survive in Korea and Japan with English, but you wouldn't be able to meaningfully communicate with 99% of the people. Learning Korean or Japanese could only be described as a waste given the small geographic range in which they're spoken. If you're going to Korea it would be well worth it.

Well yeah, but Hangul is so cool!
