The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Does anyone have Knights of the Nine? That screenshot above looks like the Priory of the Nine... It's a great download and well worth the money, over the Xbox Live system anyway. I think I saw the PC version for £20, but that contains the Vile Lair, Frostcrag Spire etc. Not worth £20 IMHO though...

I've seen that PC download, it looks like all of the pay to play mods rolled up into one. I haven't done the math, but I'm going to assume it's cheaper buying them all at once than buying them piecemeal.

Pretty soon im getting the Nvidia 7950GTX, hopefully i'll be able to max out the graphic settings. Or what?

ooh, thanks for reminding me to get that, I want to see what the Orrery does.

i tried to make my own oblivion movie and ended up with this:

lol?

Hey, I like it! I wasn't so keen one the computerized and old film effects near the end with the last fight, they didn't fit the whole fantasy theme, but other than that minor annoyance I enjoyed it!

Don't hold your breath.... :coffee:

damn, so it doesn't blow up all the Trolls in the game? bugger

:( I miss ordinators. They were fun to kill off in Morrowind. I'd get a big group of them following, levitate over water and watch the corpses float. :D

I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading my video card to be able to run Oblivion. I've got a Celeron 2.0GHz processor, with 512 MB of RAM, which appears to just meet the minimum requirements. I might be willing to get an ATI X1600, which would easily clear the recommended power, but I don't want to upgrade anything other than the video card. Given that I only just have the minimum required in other specs, is it worth getting a suitable video card, or will Oblivion run poorly even with an upper-end device installed?

I got it the other day. I got a Athlon 2400, which better than your cpu, 768mb RAM, and a Radeon X850pro, which I don't know if it's better or worse than what you're looking at. Anyway, it runs good, looks great, most settings are highish, with AA turned off and shadows low, view distance maxed, looks great, runs decently with slow down every once in a while due to the processor most likely, mainly in fights with a few people at once or while running around on horseback around the Imperial City. Yours might run good if you lower settings a bit.

Get a suitable graphics card, thouh only 512 ram? You'll will have medium settings probably.

What videocard you have now? I will take it as a reference and test out a few things, possibly resulting in some good advice. :) But I fear that you have no hope of running it smoothly with that cpu. I can already say that X1600 is overkill for yours.

I currently have a Radeon 7000, 32MB. I don't game much, so I haven't updated it in a couple of years.

I think I'll probably play Morrowind for now (which works perfectly) and buy Oblivion whenever I next get a new computer.

Whoa! that's seriously old. I would suggest finding a used Radeon 9800 Pro or similar card. That would probably give you all the power your Celeron needs. I would also suggest overclocking if you want to squeeze out every ounce of power that thing has left (2,5 Ghz sounds achievable though it depends a lot of your mobo). You don't want to spend a lot of money on that computer if you'll end up updating it soon.

[edit] I don't have any card that old to use as a reference. I was going to downclock my P4 to match your celeron and change older videocard. Play oblivion, change better videocard and see if it runs any better with it. [/edit]

I don't think it's really worth upgrading your computer just to play Oblivion. It good for a while to start with, but it gets old quickly I feel. Theres really no exploration going on, when your in the wilderness your not really looking around, your just looking at your compass.

I miss some of that feel from Morrowind, looking really hard to see if you could find a door in the middle of nowhere. And devling deep into Namu is a LOT more exiting than entering leaky cave.
