The Entire Thought Experiment

can anyone test a archi map with all leader with sailing and settler and note the work producing of GLH?

personaly, if i do it tonight i will be crushed to death by 3 peoples in this SG (I have a SGOTM to be played tonight :p)

EDIT: if we can put a planning date for fabrication of GLH in our game, it is even better :)

That's correct. :p

I would like to hear what the usual date are for a GLH. Without that knowledge I'm unable to make up my mind.

usually I would aim for GLH around T70 to finish... basically similar with Mids timing. but since the sailing giving away...

i did try anyway, took me 10 minutes.
TGW went T52 and GLH T54 (zara)

the second one to get GLH would have been T60 (darius) (lets say I went back in time and strike zara with the hand of god)

for safety reason, this test should be reproduced.

Normally I'd go for GLH without blinking. With sailing in the hands of the AI already however... I think I'd blink twice and proceed with GLH anyway. It's just too good to ignore on these kind of maps.

I'm happy to take our chances given the roster's enthusiasm. I'd hate to spend the rest of the game 'wondering' "If we only gave the Great Lighthouse a shot" ...

I vote GLH, but with Gold I suggest we go ahead and grab AH first, the extra food and hammers will help a lot.

well seems to me like the roster wants GLH, but is unsure if the fish+sailing now is better path then ah+fish+sailing...

I would just like to remind all of you that

1) AI has advantage of sailing
2) we still need to build LH before GLH which itself is 60 hammers and because we don't have seafood if we miss GLH will just be 60 hammers wasted
3) we obviously need to build GLH which is tons of hammers.

My meaning is that if we go that way, we don't have much time to waste and need streamline towards building LH asap, those +1f2h on cows will hardly matter on the landing of GLH, but the timing of techs can matter a lot!

so to sum it up, I would like more precise vote on:

what to tech next

AH - lymond, nocho

fish+sailing - vranasm

awaiting more feedback from roster ;-)

I will do some research tonight.

sorry, did not have time to make more research but i would like to be sure we can built GLH before T60 before giving my approbation.

else, it useless IMHO

I'd go straight Fishing > Sailing. I don't think we have time to do any detours at this point.

Lurker's comment

Looks like you're having a lot of fun here already :) Will follow this one for sure. Best of luck with the game :)

As counter-intuitive as it is, I actually think that getting Animal Husbandry first and developing the Cow tile, adding a second Worker (with the current Warrior + Settler), and building a Mine amongst all of the chops is likely to get us the best result by a few turns.

I've attached a saved game (note - small map with Washington + Sailing, Lincoln + Sailing, and Qin {Industrious}) as rivals, in a situation not dissimilar to our predicament. If you're happy enough with this save as an experimental subject, then please feel free to run some scenario trials. Maybe we can improve this further? :)

UnforcedError - thanks for lurking! :D

thanks for the test map cam.
i could built GLH turn 50 with only one worker going straight sailing, construction.
I razed 4 forest in the process and a 2 pop whip.

ok for me for GLH

OK, well that beats my Turn 53! (I didn't revolt to Slavery, and therefore didn't whip, so maybe that's where I was slowed).

guys I would like if you would be more explicit about the tech path... it's a bit unclear (astre, cam) which path you want to go, but I would add you anyway

so current status of votes

AH - lymond, nocho, cam_h

fish+sailing - vranasm, sengir, astre

if you feel you are wrongly placed.... you have to be more explicit.

We need more feedback obviously, if we end in tie, I will decide as turn player, unless cam overrules as game maker.

Missing out on AH I got Glight T52 (2 mined hills+1chop, no whips, AH after masonry).

did not tried the AH approach, maybe it is feasable.
but at least we are sure that fish sailing construction work.
actually, our production was just ahead of research each time, so i had to delayed some chopping.

and sorry, my building date is not T50, it is T51 (slavery just after i got construction) but that only gave me 1-2 turn, not that efficient.

another idea i did not test is to revolt slavery T0 (before gold mine is online) then going warior/worker (whiped into LH)/ LH (whiped into GLH)/ GLH. the only important point is not to go below 2 population (food + gold)

Will be following this. Good luck guys.
