The Fall of Uruguay

Many people die from marijuana use – The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that more than 10,000,000 annual U.S. deaths, including more than 134,400 in Colorado, are attributed to marijuana use alone (i.e. this figure does not include accidental deaths).
What?

How many people die in the US, annually, from all causes?

With a death rate of 8.39 per 1000, that's...um... ~24 million? So marijuana causes very nearly half of all deaths in the US?

Quick, somebody tell someone. This is important news.

My life in a rural Canadian town full of pot-smokers has shown me that the "stoners are mellow" claim to be rather false, at least here. Around here, the most violent were the people who smoked the most. *shrugs*
So if a handful of motorcycle-gang-member types smoke pot it must mean that it is in any way due to marijuana?

You should watch Reefer Madness to continue your Orwellian education concerning this highly dangerous drug.

I checked our CDC:

Number of deaths: 2,468,435

So, actually 4x the number of people who actually are dying are dying from marijuana every year.

Yeah, that MMYV thing must be a troll site.

^There are more things in heaven and earth, Borachio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy :shake:

:) Pretty sure it is a satire, given that 10 mil/50 is 200K, and that is a bit larger than 135K [i suppose that Colorado is not really significantly smaller in population than 1/50th of the US (checked and it has around 5,2 mil, which is near that mark at roughly 1/60, and it is a state when marijuana is legal afaik)].

Oops.

You're a funny man, Forma.

Oh yeah. You're right. 2.4 million.

I can do arithmetic for sure. I just can't ever seem to do it right.

Yes, I realized it was a troll. But I like doing sums. Even if badly.

That number didn't even register with me, I just googled and posted. I can't count the number of times I've been off by 10.

Me n' Good Marry are old friends - I don't use her a lot like I've used too and do not feel the need either, if anyone wants to share a pot I have no objections + I think Marry should be legalized - She's not doing any more damage than somkes or alcohol do.

Are you sure you've met people who've smoked marijuana, Mr Considon?

Aggression is simply not the effect it has, as far as I know (which isn't much, I'll admit).

Alcohol, on the other hand, can, and frequently does, make people very aggressive.

Agreed 100% I always "catch an agressor" when drinking alcohol and never when smoking weed ;) - True story

Cmon man. 0 isn't plausible. People find stupid ways to kill themselves with things that children are normally allowed to operate, so it's hard to believe there's 0 marijuana related deaths (at least one idiot would find a way to choke on it). Heck, smoking it is *not* good for your lungs and will harm them, just significantly less than smoking tobacco products does (and with less addiction too).

Also, more widespread use of it would cause deaths to go up somewhat, though it wouldn't even come close to kind-of-scratching tobacco, alcohol, or aggregate pharm drug abuse.

Still no real arguments for banning it in the first place, unless you're trying to blanket ban every recreational drug out there...

And we all know how well that would go.

IIRC the death rate is so low that it's just not possible to conclusively link it to marijuana.

Did you not know that the smoke from burning marijuana actually heals your lungs and the drug itself is the cure for cancer? Don't let the Orwellian educators tell you otherwise!

Consumption +100% , Legal sale = 0 %, Government profit = 0 %, Illegal sales profit +100%, ... crime (I don't even bother to say how much crime would profit from any prohibitions) - mabbe I exagerrate a bit but I mean just look at the prohibition times in the States (or Opium trade market in the times of East India Company Inc.) and You'll have an answear ;) I remember that scene from an old gangster movie when they made a cake in shape of a coffin with the words inscribed on it : "R.I.P Prohibition" - that explains a lot ...

I was going to disagree with significantly less harmful and started looking for sources to validate that.

Instead I found that the jury is still out, there are a lot of unknowns and the effect on your health when smoking cannabinoids have a couple of contradicting results in studies.

For a drug that could theoretically see major markets, cannabis really hasn't been as extensively studied nearly as much as it should have/be. Compared to any other "recreational" drug scholarship has been sparse.

Mind you, that chart isn't taking into account all of the people murdered because of pot.

"There's been over 20,000 studies on marijuana...what is it that scientists do not yet know?"

Mind you, that chart isn't taking into account all of the people murdered because of pot.

Do you mean:

1) People murdered because smoking pot made them homicidal maniacs?

or

2) People murdered because pot is worth a lot of money and there is no lawful way to seek recompense for losses...because it's illegal.

I'm betting it's number 2!

I mean, sure, maybe there are a few cases of one idiot shooting another because of someone bogarting the joint, but I can also find something similar to say about alcohol too.

A 62-year-old Conch Key woman was arrested on a murder charge Sunday night after being accused of shooting a Keys fisherman five times after he refused to give her a beer.

Carolyn Dukeshire, who the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said is known as "the sea hag," reportedly shot Martin Mazur, 64.

The incident happened at 53 N. Conch Ave. shortly after 7 p.m.

Deputy Becky Herrin said Casey Whippo, 30, of Conch Key told deputies that he and Mazur went to dinner at the Brass Monkey in Marathon. They returned to the house and were sitting outside. They had just opened a beer when Dukeshire walked around the side of the house and asked if she could have one.

Whippo said Mazur refused to give her a beer, so Dukeshire shot him twice in the abdomen, twice in the back and once in the wrist, according to Herrin.
