The Future of Abortion and Cloning is Now

How long are we talking about?

I want to see Australia's fauna brought back in particular, such as these guys:

On rational judgment, yes, but there are still people who think using the pill / condoms (or other alternatives) is too much trouble or takes away part of the fun. Nanocontraceptives could be applied like vaccination at an early age and then you'd never have to worry about it again.

IUDs/implants are generally recommended as the "first choice" contraceptive device, and they're good for 3-10 years depending on device.

This would certainly be a temptation, and I'd expect it to become common. Parents would 'turn off' the fertility of their children, and then children would eventually turn on their fertility when they wanted to reproduce. It might even progress to the point where it would be illegal to 'turn on' the fertility of someone if they're too young.

Or the point where it would be illegal to 'turn on' the fertility of someone if they did not have a licence to reproduce

You'd have to! The ACLU and I would sue for the right of guardianship for voting, where if you were the guardian of an adult human (18 years+) who was mentally incapable of voting, you could get a proxy vote for them. Then, I'd spawn one million embryos and put them into cryogenic storage.

18 years later, I'd be President!

Those one million embryos in cryogenic storage might be chronologically 18 years old (assuming you stored them for 18 years), but they wouldn't be physically 18 years old. So you'd have to have taken them out of storage and let them age 18 years before you'd get their proxy votes. Does the system allow that? I know there are some provisions in the Elections Canada rules for disabled and incapacitated elector voting, but my training never covered "Friend of Vegetative State Elector" oaths - because the elector has to be capable of indicating to the Friend helping them vote who the elector wants to vote for. It's not the Friend's choice. Anyone who marks the ballot contrary to the elector's wishes is guilty of election fraud and is liable for fines and/or jail time.

And I know the current crop of Republican candidates are BSC, but even they wouldn't (I hope) gestate a million non-productive people AND raise them for 18 years just to steal their voting privileges.

Of course they're physically 18 years old! They've existed that long in the physical universe! They're just extremely stunted for their age, and thus need a proxy voter.

We'll have to start assigning rights in reverse.

You're only allowed to vote/drink/drive once you have less than 60 years of expected lifespan remaining.

What was I expecting, trying to have a sensible conversation on this point...

Do the U.S. voting laws allow proxy votes for mentally incapacitated electors? I'm referring to people who are basically mental vegetables and who cannot possibly understand anything to do with the election. As an example, would somebody like Terry Schiavo's husband be allowed to vote on her behalf after she was in a vegetative state?

EDIT: And when this thread was linked for me in chat I didn't realize it was months old. Sorry :(

Yeah, but I created this hypothetical to question "how would you deal with abortion given likely future technology?", not "what would you do with awesome nanobot swarms?"
Technology does not exist in a vacuum. It's difficult to assess how society should operate given such leaps.

I should also note that you're giving a very specific view of future technology. I mean if there are nanobot swarms available to people, is it not feasible for governments to put spybots everywhere or something that monitor everyone's activities.
