The "I Got A New Game!" Thread

Just got minecraft yesterday. It's awesome bulding a small cabin, and plotting to make a mine just beside it.

I got it too this week-end. I don't understand this game. You boot it without having anything to do, in a sort of boredom, you expect to fiddle a bit for 15 minutes, next thing you know you've spent 3 hours digging a mine shaft to get material for your gigantic tower outside. What the hell.

The other day I got lost in the wilderness. I managed to get myself material to make a compass that points back to your spawn, wheeeee, hehe.

Now I use this compass to explore a lot. I need clay to build my brick castle, and clay is... sort of rare. I built rafts and I sail along coasts, when night comes, I build makeshift holes to hide from the creatures, then on the morning I sail again. Still, I don't want to go too far, because it would take forever to come back.

I also tried exploring for interesting landmarks, when I find one, I use my compass to walk back to my spawn and I put torches all the way back, and when I'm back to my spawn, I put a sign up explaining where this torch path leads...

Exactly how it happened. xD

Picked up WW2: Time of Wrath at Gamersgate for the low low price of US$7.49. Not as complex as HOI3 but very entertaining nonetheless. Good beer and pretzels game.

Dude, DUUUUDE that is so much win.

Maybe instead of Civ5 I'll get Minecraft after my final exams.

Yes, much better than ciV IMO.

civi 5 and Armored princess crossworlds orc expansion and allod online
and star ocean 4 international on ps3

I keep hearing about this Minecraft thing... is it really that good? I guess without seeing it - just reading or hearing about it - I'm having a hard time envisioning what it is about the game that is getting people so excited. Any thoughts?

Pre-ordered Football Manager 11. Will probably get Minecraft soon.

ugh, that game sucks.

anyhoo, I got Men of War, daaaaaaamn it's tough.

Yes it's as good as it sounds.

I, too, know people without imagination. Fortunately most people have one. ;)

So I played Minecraft "Classic" over the weekend, and... I'll humbly admit I didn't get the hype. :(

And I DO have an imagination! I swear it's in there somewhere!

Maybe the 'classic' version doesn't have all the features? I didn't see any resources or ways to create items like a compass. Just a lot of different types of blocks that you could select and then place. It didn't seem like there was any more to the game than that.

But yeah, seriously... where's teh gunz amirite?? ;)

Thats right. The classic version is missing a lot of features. No tools, no crafting, no monsters, no resources, no night time. Just wandering around and building and digging.

Got it, thanks. No wonder it seemed rather dull. Given all the rabid enthusiasm, I figured I must be missing something. Or a lot of somethings. :)

Maybe I'll try the 'real' version soon, not sure if I'll have the patience for a game like this, though.
