Just to eat up some time:

There are hippies living in the USA, UK, and hippies have been sighted in Isreal, Germany, and South Africa. Also the hippie-spawned psychedelic trance is followed all throughtout the world. Within the uS, many variations of hippies occur. Theres the San Francisco hippies, the northern hippies, the wood stock hippies, and the southern hippies just to name a few. Also hippie ideals come from movements in europe around a hundred years ago. Hippies are deinitly not localized.

As for your claim about extinction, I'll have you know you are soooo off. Sure, by 1972 the hippie revolution was over. But only because most of its ideals had been asorbed into modern culture. And have you not heard of the surging Neo-Hippie movement? Hippies continue to impact the world!
