Ahuitzotl reclined and slowly ate figs proferred upon him by a servant. For looking down from his manor on the hill, across the fields of maize and in the diamond fields, toiled the various tenants of his land, recently acquired from the unworthy Joatzli in an honourable challenge, and this site Ahuitzotl savoured.
The challenge itself wasn't too difficult, for Joatzli was a cowardly fool, calling upon the great Huitzilopochtli to do his dirty work for him! The nerve, all know the war god favours those who stand triumphant on their own in combat. Thus when the challenge came the weak Joatzli folded like a house of cards before the glory of Chacultepec. But the prize indeed was most fine indeed, for the gem field lay at his feet to be worked in the name of Chacultepec, and many tenants and servants now worked under the rod of Ahuitzotl.
The servant Axolotl, entered the presence of his lord
-
"My Lord, a letter has arrived from the Tlatoani recognising your victory in lawful challenge over the *spit* House of Tehuantepec."
"Yes, send word back to the honourable Tlatoani that the House of Chacultepec kneels before him, and acknowledges his supremacy over all the lands of Tenochtitlan, the glory of Aztlan"
"In addition to this my lord, reports from the tithers indicates that toil production is proceeding according to estimates and that we can expect a bountiful tithe this year for House Chacultepec"
"Excellent, excellent, tell the tenants that their lord rewards good service, and that if produce is good and obedience is retained he shall honour one of their number before the gods at the next council"
"It shall be done my lord"
-
Axolotl bowed and departed. Ahuitzotl turned back to savour the panorama of toiling in his lands below, in the knowledge that the toil of the tenants was bound for his table and his coffers and at that thought he smiled and turned to the practice field where an effigy of Joatzli awaited his daily practice.
