Vinc, I guess you're right. Too bad, because there are plenty of questionable historical leaders that would fit the bill, if only people knew of their atrocities. I think this is somewhat true in the case of Mao, which still has a flair of idealism about him, because too few know how cruel his regime really was. And maybe that's why he slipped into Civ3. If we in the west had been as close to the "cultural revolution" as we were to Hitlers Germany, I doubt he would have made it.

And that's why it's silly to exclude Hitler. Because this game (among other things) is about satirizing world history. And what is more entertaining than the bits that really hurt bad? And boy, did WWII hurt badly.

Reagan?? Well... I didn't grow up in the USA.. I grew up in leftist Denmark, and Reagan was always the bad guy in the cold war when I grew up. His speech about "the evil empire" is infamous over here... It is not politically correct to like Ronnie, well it wasn't at least some years ago...

Well you said it... That is about as politically incorrect as you can get... And as you remember, he was assassinated for being such a peaceful character. (very strange, IMO)

If I remember correctly, there was some talk of his involvement in some illegal arms trade, is that correct? Maybe you know more about this than me?

The thing about Hitler, though, is that he wasn't the most influencal leader in Germany's history. Besides, I think Bismark will make a more interesting opponent. (Bismark IS Germany's leader still, right?)

Because humour is an outlet for pain and frustration in our lives. If you can laugh of something that really hurt you, life can't be that bad. And I think Firaxis are making a mistake in tempering the satirical aspects of the Civilization series, if that is the intent. Political correctness and market considerations tend to strangle every artistic originality around, and to suppress the truth about what really happened.

I say, display Hitler and make fun of him. That is much more liberating, than quieting him to death. When you aren't supposed to talk about him, it generates this kind of mystical aura, that attracts people to the legend etc. What a bad idea. Flame him with sarcasm. Like they did with Stalin in Civ1.

To be somewhat on topic of Civ3, anyone else think Firaxis was glad they'd already removed the Fundamentalism and the fanatic unit given the events of 9/11? Just a touch un-PC.

I've been wondering if the spy options (poison water supply, plant nuke) went away for the same reasons.

I don't know what's the use of the Bloc anyways... so

The NDP should go back to school to learn basic Keynesian economic models... they have the right to be left-wing, but at least know what's the alternative to the right-wing economic philosophy. Just don't say this is bad... And we all saw what the NDP gvt did in Ontario... REAL SUCCESS there.

As for Chretien, the only thing we can say in Quebec about it is "Told ya!"

Anyways, I respect your point of view, though think exactly the contrary.
