The Lost History of the Grigori

Year 219

Amelanchier has asked us to assist him in his war against Charadon. Though we have no love for the Doviello, they have never wronged us in the past. We shall leave it to them to fight it out themselves. However, as Amelanchier is close to the other elven nations, and Charadon is close to the Clan of Embers, we hope that this war does not escalate into an all out war on all sides.

Year 222 - The Founding of Costa Del Sol

Costa Del Sol has been built near a lake by the border of Arendel's and Auric's realm. Nearby is an untapped mana source.
turn222.jpg

One of our Hunters is visiting Arendel's realm. He occasionally sends us detailed reports on the progress of the mighty and prosperous Ljosalfar nation. The location of Thessa's realm has also been located.
turn222a.jpg

Year 225

Our policies for encouraging trade has been successful. Our number of trade routes has increased.
turn225.jpg

As we continue our Foreign Trade policies, our people's wealth continues to grow.
turn226.jpg

Now that our nation's economy is on stable footing, we now turn to the barbarian cities just outside our borders. Barbarian hordes have long been using those cities as bases from which they conduct their raid into our territory.

Year 228

As our countryside becomes more secure from barbarians and the forests are being cleared, citizens have slowly begun moving to cottages outside our cities.
turn228.jpg

In exchange for our Knowledge of the Ether, Sheelba and Arendel have revealed to us the secrets of Warfare, Calendar, and Archery.

Great story! What made you choose leaders like this, instead of many varied civilizations.
Keep it up!:goodjob:

Thanks! :)

I wanted civs that "belonged" on this map. Tundra = doviello, forests = elves, raging barbs = orcs. My intention was to play a map that heavily favoured the AI instead of the player for a change. And I thought it'd be fun to fight elves in their terrain. Illians are added for flavour since this is a winter map.

Hopefully I didn't go too far with my self-handicapping, Arendel and Thessa really scare me :crazyeye:

Year 228 - continued

Our chief spy Ozbenno has informed us of a Fellowship scheme for world domination. Thessa and her high priests currently are plotting a Erebus-wide revolution. Their intent is for every single faithful of the Fellowship to rise up and purge Erebus of the all non-believers. Thus the whole of Erebus shall be controlled from the Holy City of Idul. The Agnostic Grigori will no doubt be the first to be purged.
turn228d.jpg

Spoiler :
Ouch. For those who aren't familiar, the controller of the holy city needs 80% influence to win. In other words, I'm in deep trouble.

We have managed to locate the exact location of the Holy City of Idul. It lies deep within elven territory, near Arendel's border.
turn228c.jpg

We must strike at the Fellowship before they succeed. Our generals are putting forth proposals for an attack on the Fellowship. We have currently only have a 11 units of Hunters at our disposal. However most of them are veterans, battle hardened by the constant barbarian raids.
turn228e.jpg

In this time of emergency, Bhalira has chosen to join the ranks of our Hunters. Bringing the total to 12 Hunter units.
turn228f.jpg

Year 229

turn229-1.jpg

Our Hunters are beginning to assemble in the city state of Edge, near the border to Arendel's realm.

Year 230

turn229-1.jpg

Our Hunter visiting the elven lands has sent us back intelligence concerning the defences of Idul. The Holy City has a garrison of 3 Archer units and a Fawn. The city itself is heavily fortified, naturally. Generals have drawn up the final plans for the lightning raid. The attack will begin from within Arendels borders.
Spoiler :
turn230.jpg

Unfortunately the Fellowship did spread to my cities :( Thessa used disciples to spread it when we signed the open borders, I think. It can spread normally to Grigori cities too, but less likely than other civs.

Yeah it would've been hilarious, if I could declare a state religion I could really steal the religious victory. Still that city must be a crazy cash cow, since Thessa built the Song of Autumn.

Year 231

turn231.jpg

While she plots for world domination, she pretends to be our friend. She is a much more devious opponent than I had surmised. Very well, we shall play her game and accept the trade agreement.
turn231a.jpg

turn231b.jpg

Year 232

turn232.jpg

Most of our Hunters have finished assembling in Edge and have begun traveling to our point of attack. Some stragglers are following behind our main attack force, hopefully they will be able to get there before the attack.
turn232a.jpg

Arendel is currently mobilizing her nation towards a stronger military. We are unsure who her enemy is, since she is at peace for the moment. Many of our citizens fear that Arendel intends to join Thessa in her religious fanaticism.
turn232b.jpg

Year 233

turn232.jpg

In an effort to accelerate the development of our Adepts, we send them out to train versus barbarians in the wild. We hope they will be ready for combat when the time comes.
turn233.jpg

Year 234

turn234-1.jpg

Our Hunters must make haste towards Idul for we have very little time before Thessa's ambitions come to fruition.

Year 235

Year 236

turn235.jpg

Year 237

turn234-1.jpg

Our main force has arrived at the attack point, they are standing by for stragglers to arrive before commencing the attack.
turn237.jpg

Meanwhile, our Workers have complete the Bronze mine. Distribution of newly forged Bronze weapons is underway.
turn237a.jpg

Year 238 - The Agnostic Crusade

turn235.jpg

Our attack force is ready, some of the Hunters were injured before the journey through elven lands and asked for time to rest before attacking. However, I feel that we cannot afford the time required for resting. For every minute that passes, Thessa is closer to her goal.
Spoiler :
turn238.jpg

Since the nations of Erebus save the Grigori and Illians are faithful to the Fellowship of Leaves, we fear reprisal from the believers. Of paramount concern is Thessa's kinship with Amelanchier and Arendel. Our greatest fear is that the elven nations shall all band together against the Grigori once we have provoked Thessa's rage.

Year 239 - The Battle of Idul

Our Hunters approach Idul under the cover of the forest.
turn239a.jpg

They have been spotted by the elven Archers! And so the battle begins.
turn239b.jpg

Servants of the Fellowship rise up to defend their Holy City as more of our Hunters enter the fray.

turn239d.jpg
turn239f.jpg

turn239g.jpg
turn239j.jpg

Despite the resolve of the Idul garrison and their extensive fortifications, the element of surprise was on our side. Unprepared, the faithful of the Fellowship were unable to hold out against our battle hardened Hunters for long.

The high priests of the Fellowship intensify their prayers as our forces make their final advance. When will they learn that the divine care little for mortals?
turn239h.jpg

As the last defender falls, our Hunters march in and secure the city. We loot the holy shrine for anything of value. While I grieve for the loss of life, we cannot allow any of the priests of the Fellowship to survive. Were they to be spared, they would without a doubt plan retribution against the Grigori. Therefore we have burned Idul to the ground to show all of Erebus what happens to any religious fanatics that dare defy the Grigori.
turn239k.jpg

Spoiler :
For the record, the Song of Autumn (hole shrine of the Fellowship) was yielding 53 gold/turn.

Bahamet combs over the ruins of Idul and assesses our casualties. Many comrades were lost in battle and the loss of a large number of veteran Hunters has severely weakened our forces.
turn239i.jpg
turn239n.jpg

Back in Midgar, bards have already begun singing a National Epic telling of our brave Hunters' victory against the religious fanatics.
turn239m.jpg

Outraged Disciple of Leaves attempt an uncoordinated attack near Costa Del Sol but were easily repelled by the Orcsbane Warriors.
turn239l.jpg

Year 240 - Outcry Across Erebus

The razing of Idul has caused protests from the believing nations. Auric was unphased by our declaration of war on Thessa and remains his dour self.
Spoiler :
turn240.jpg

The loss of foreign income from trade with Thessa's nation has also caused protests from our merchants. Trade with Arendel has increased as a result, however diplomatic relations with her have turned cold.

Foreign income of year 237

Foreign income of year 240
turn240b.jpg

The death of a large number of our Hunters during the raid of Idul has cause unrest among our citizens and they are demanding that we end hostilities against Thessa. I suspect that they are in fact members of the Fellowship living in our nation.
turn240d.jpg
turn240e.jpg

A sense of unease permeates the air as our remaining Hunters cross Arendel's realm on their journey back home.
turn240c.jpg

Year 242

The Great Sage Damabiah has discovered the secrets of Alteration in Junon.
Spoiler :
turn242.jpg

The void in leadership within the Fellowship of Leaves as caused some of its believers to turn to another emerging faith, the Octopus Overlords. Religion has become a neverending scourge on Erebus, defeat one and another appears.
turn242b.jpg
turn242a.jpg

Year 243

Knowing that we cannot afford a war on 2 fronts, Auric has demanded that we give him the secrets of Knowledge of the Ether. We has little choice but to comply. The Grigori will not forget his threats, and we shall deal with him in due time.
Spoiler :

Settlers have headed out to claim Reagents for study by our sages.
Spoiler :
turn243a.jpg

Year 245

Charadon, enemy of the elves, has demanded that we stop our trade with Arendel. Since we do not wish to antagonize Arendel or lose our influx of wealth from trade with the elves, we have refused his demands.
turn245.jpg

Year 246 - Ardor

The war with the elves has caused a declining interest in the secrets of nature magic. Instead, interest in the arcane arts has grown. With the intent of developing powerful magic to aid us in our war against Thessa, we have have resorted to the call of Ardor. It is our hope that Great Sages and Adventurers from across Erebus will join our cause.
turn246.jpg

The Great Sage Bradeline has discovered the secrets of Elementalism in Midgar.

Year 248

The Great Sage Luciaqua has heeded our call of Ardor and has flocked to the city of Kalm.

We have begun building a road to Jonas' realm, in order to establish a trade route between our nations.
Spoiler :
turn248.jpg

Year 249 - Rise of the Mage and the Guild of The Nine

Our first Mage has been trained! Skilled in the arts of arcane combat, he shall strike fear into the hearts of the Ljosalfar and the Fellowship.
turn249.jpg

Our development of Currency has allowed the founding of the Guild of The Nine in the city of Edge. We have begun hiring foreign Mercenaries for our war effort to ease our citizens' concerns for Grigori casualties.

turn249e.jpg

Year 250

Arendel has asked us to "donate" 240 gold to her cause. A thinly veiled threat that we have chosen to ignore for now. We shall need to be wary of her, as she may at any moment decide to join Thessa in the war against us.
Spoiler :

Amelanchier has proposed that we trade secrets and gold. However he has little knowledge of value to us.
