The Lost History of the Grigori

Year 338 - The Battle of Tu'eth

Following an extended bombardment by our Mages, our forces engage the orcish defenders at Tu'eth. Injured and demoralized by the magical siege, the orcs put up little resistance. All members of the Veil clergy were hunted down and executed.

turn338d.jpg

Most of the inhabitants have been spared and given a chance to become citizens of our nation. We are merciful conquerers.

turn338e.jpg

Meanwhile on another front, our troops are moving to intercept a raiding party from Jonas, near the city of Edge.

turn338.jpg

Our Rangers are surveying an orcish settlement in the Ancient Wastland for an eventual attack.

turn338a.jpg

Year 339

We have begun the siege bombardment of Sheelba's city of Heaven's Bane and Jonas' city of Altheriol-ta-Mealthiel.

Year 341 - Wrath of the Righteous

turn341a.jpg

Outraged by our pact with Hyborem, Arendel and Basium have sworn to destroy us. All of our attempts at peace negotiations have been rebuffed. Centuries of peace between Arendel and the Grigori has been cast aside in their unyielding quest to rid Erebus of demons. Recognizing that our military is stretched thin by wars on three fronts, we have begun peace talks with the orcs. Sheelba was rather receptive to our offer of peace, having suffered defeat at Tu'eth as well as being currently at war with the elves. Jonas soon followed Sheelba's example.

Our troops are being trasferred from the orcish border to the elven front. We can only hope that reinforcements arrive on time.

Year 342

Basium's stronghold is known to be located deep within Arendel's borders. Reaching it will not be easy.

turn342.jpg

Year 346

Lead by the Baron Duin Halfmorn, our forces march toward the Order's Holy City of Kingsport.

turn346.jpg

Year 347 - Battle of Kingsport

The faithful of the Order scramble to defend their city as our Mages begin bombardment of the fortifications. Many defenders are seen praying in fear to Junil as they spot the Baron approach.

turn347.jpg

As a way of breaking the defenders' resolve, we have allowed the Baron to feed on a group of Fawns caught just outside the city limits. The elves' digust turn to horror as they witness the Baron feast on the broken bodies of his victims, transforming them into Ravenous Werewolves. Let it be known to all, that any faithful who stand against the Grigori shall be denied the afterlife and meet a fate worse than death.

turn347e.jpg
turn347f.jpg

With the elves' morale broken, our forces easily capture Kingsport.

turn347a.jpg
turn347b.jpg

turn347c.jpg

turn347d.jpg

No mercy is shown to the high priests of the Order as each and every one of them is hunted down and executed by our Rangers. The Holy City itself is burned to the ground. Only a pile of rubble is left to show believers of all religions that prayers to the gods are futile.

After hearing the news of the destruction of Kingsport, Sheelba's respect for the Grigori has shot up considerable. She has offered to re-open trade routes between our nations. Since we have lost the lucrative trade routes with Arendel's elves, we have accepted Sheelba's offer.

Year 350 - Yersinia

turn350a.jpg
turn350.jpg

As Erebus grows nearer to Armageddon, refugees from the plague in distant lands report that Yersinia has appeared, spreading disease and death wherever he goes.

Our Adepts have managed to channel the necromantic energy that permeates the Ancient Wasteland. With the completion of the Death Node, we now have mastery over the powers of Death.

turn350b.jpg

So now, its You/Hyborem and Auric versus Arendel/Basium and Jonas, Thessa/Amelanchier/Charadon vs Sheelba, and of course, everyone's fighting. Great. Look forward to seeing how you get through this mess.

Grigori Archmages! Hooray horray! But it was very unroleplay-y to use the Baron as Cassiel. Hyborem as a voluntary vassal... lol

Grigori Archmages! Hooray horray! But it was very unroleplay-y to use the Baron as Cassiel. Hyborem as a voluntary vassal... lol

Yeah people do tend to view Cassiel as being good-ish. I think Hyborem as vassal works for Cassiel, since he doesn't really care about Good and Evil after all. He's only concerned with preserving Grigori life, and right now it looks like military strength is the way to go. Hyborem and the Baron serve their purpose to that end. This is the first time I'm playing a darker version of Cassiel. It's certainly more fun!

Year 354 - The Strength of The Will

turn354.jpg

The weak of spirit pray to the false gods for their fortune while the Grigori rely on their Strength of Will to shape their own destiny. One who has unlocked the powers of the will is able to wield the most powerful arcane energies or command the obedience of lesser minds.

Two schools of the Will have emerged. There are the Archmages, who apply their Strength of Will outward to control arcane power, and the Luonnotar, who focus their Strength of Will inward to command the spirit.

turn354a.jpg
turn354b.jpg

The Luonnotar believe that there is only one god worthy of being called as such. It is the one creator god who is beyong Good and Evil. He does not demand prayers or worship like the false gods. With their developped powers of the spirit, the Luonnotar are able to sense and ferret out believers of the false gods.

turn354c.jpg

Year 358 - The Luonnotar Mission

The rise of the Luonnotar has inspired the Grigori with a purpose: to free Erebus from the gods. It has become their mission to break the gods' hold on Erebus once and for all. With the growth of the Fellowship and the Order halted by the destruction of their Holy Cities, the Luonnotar now turn to the Veil. Under Sheelba's rule, the influence of the Ashen Veil has spread at an alarming pace.

turn358b.jpg

We have captured the former Illian city of Tangut from Arendel, with the intention of forcing her to accept our peace terms. Since it is the elves that instigated the war, we have demanded war reparations in the form of gold. Facing inevitable destruction at the hands of our Archmages, she has accepted our conditions for peace.

turn358.jpg

Spoiler Peace negotiations with Arendel :
turn358a.jpg

With the elves temporarily subdued, we now turn our attention to the orcs. In the meantime we have canceled our Open Borders treaty with Sheelba.

Year 360 - The Secret of Immortality

The gods dangle the gift of the afterlife in front of their worshippers, but immortality is not exclusive to the gods. Our Archmages have discovered the way to immortality without the aid of the divine. As the first Grigori to attain immortality, Groo the Wanderer has pledge himself as the eternal guardian of our nation.

turn360.jpg

Year 363

Unable to tolerate Basium's righteous fanaticism, Jonas has declared war on Arendel and Basium. A full fledge battle between the orcs and the elves has broken out. Meanwhile, Arendel has negotiated a peace treaty with Auric.

turn363.jpg

Year 365 - Battle of Heaven's Bane

Our troops have gatherered outside Sheelba's border and are ready for the assault. Our ultimate objective is to raze the Holy City of the Veil, Naga's Tail.
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0918.jpg

The first step in our campaign is to breach Sheelba's border and capture the city of Heaven's Bane. Heaven's Bane's garrison is of moderate size, with an elite squad of Crossbowmen fortifying the city.

We begin our attack by bombarding Heaven's Bane with fire and lightning. Our fire Mages first reduce Heaven's Bane's fortifications to rubble...

Weakened and disorganized by the arcane barrage, the demoralized defenders are finished off by the Baron and his Werewolves.

turn365d.jpg

The inhabitants of Heaven's Bane are spared. The clergy of the Veil go into hiding as we await the arrival of a Luonnotar to begin the purge.

turn365h.jpg

Newly transformed Ravenous Werewolves feed on Goblin Workers outside the safety of the city.

Year 372 - Naga's Tail

Comillo the Archmage pummels Naga's Tail with a Maelstrom of thunder and lightning. Worshippers of the Veil cry out to Hyborem for help, however some of the high priests look at Comillo's arcane might with envy. Jealous of the arcane secrets that should have been theirs. They had traded their very souls only to be abandoned by Hyborem in the end, as it always is with pacts between gods and mortals.

turn372.jpg

turn372b.jpg

As per our Pact with Hyborem, we destroy Naga's Tail and Hyborem receives his servants in Hell.

turn372c.jpg

Spoiler Explanation :
For those who are unfamiliar, when the Infernals (Hyborem) are in play, every time a city of an evil civ is razed the Infernals receive population equal to the population of the razed city. In other words, the souls of the dead go to Hell. Same thing for the Mercurians (Basium) and good civs.

Year 374

We have captured and purged the orcish city of Khazak.

turn374.jpg

Year 375 - The Banishment of Basium

turn375a.jpg

While fighting against Jonas' orcs, Basium was defeated and is banished from Erebus! Without Basium's leadership, the Mercurians are severely weakened. With Basium gone and the Infernals bound by our pact we dare to hope that Armageddon been averted.

Thessa makes peace with Sheelba

turn376.jpg

turn376a.jpg

Exhausted by decades of war against Sheelba, Thessa has successfully negotiated a peace treaty with the orcs. This does not bode well for us. Now that Sheelba is at peace with the elves, she is now free to focus all her attention on fighting the Grigori. We expect a strong counterattack from the orcs in the near future.
