Question: Sometimes in English you see "a" in front of a verb, like: "The times they are a changing" or "just a sitting and a jamming". Is the letter's only purpose to bring some rhythm to the sentence? Or does it have some informativeness too, like for example to tell that utterer is a common, honest and simple (in the good sense) man?
Also, I think I've seen only Americans using that "a". Do British, Australians or Canadians use it too?
