How far would you walk for an everyday item or activity? When I was studying urban planning, I was told that most people will only walk about 0.4km or so to reach a bus stop or grocery store. The other day I found myself walking about a kilometer to the local market to grab a few things for dinner. But I was raised in a house where we walked everywhere we had to go unless it was across town.

What about you guys? How far would you walk in order to grab a coffee, or reach the bus stop?

Not very far... I go everywhere by bicycle... I might just walk to a bus stop, if necessary, but 0,4 km would be the absolute max... chances are I go by bike to the bus stop :p

0.4 km would be about ~6 min?
At my last house I used to walk ~1 km to the next train station (which was for short and long range public transport). On the other hand I never used the bus station next street, as going by car was always the easier and cheaper option.
For shopping I would limit my range to less than 1 km by foot (don't like carrying the stuff) and for anything else bike or car.
I wouldn't leave my house at all to grab a coffee.
Most people here buy their daily stuff on the way back home from work, but for "I forgot something for dinner" shopping 5 min range might be quite realistic (in total ~15 min out of house)

Those must be americans;)

I have walked 700 meters to the busstop a large part of my life and so have most of my neighbors. The grocery store is about as far and I would never ever drive there. Not even for a large order. 4 bags in each hand and 700 meters is walking distance.

I work 18k from my house and I bicycle about half the time.

Half, three quarters of a mile. Maybe somewhere a kilometer. Though when I have the time and good weather and I go out for a walk just for pleasure/exercise it's closer to 3 1/2 miles.

We live out in the country, so it's impossible for me to walk to anything. On the rare occasions when I am dropped off in the nearby town, I take great pleasure in walking to the library, or other places. I would walk anywhere as long as it was beneficial in the long run.

What's the reason behind "gold farming" in online games? What does it get anyone?

The farmer receives small amounts of real money...the buyer receives gold that they didn't have to work for...reminds me of that Foxtrot series where Jason is farming gold in World of Warquest so he can sell it online...he gets like 50 gold and goes, "I can sell that for $1.18!" or something like that...

I suppose it also gets the farmer lots of XP.

With the "farmers" mostly being in places like China or India.

Since I have an outdated reference list. How can I get a job without references?

The gold farmer is wooed by the promise of "playing a game for money". The owner of the gold farming sweatshop collects all of the gold and sells it online to rich Americanos. These people buy gold because they are lazy s.

Nobody wins.

Might as well pose it here and see if anyone knows.

For some reason, though the rest of my computer and internet is fast, some parts are slow.

Chatrooms, forums, e-mail, and anything that requires input, run slowly on my internet. Everyone else doesn't have this issue.

Any ideas what might cause this? I repeat, everything but things that require input run fast. I can view links and whatnot in a matter of seconds, but posting to CFC or another forum takes at least 30 seconds, or posting in a chatroom takes a minute, etc. With regards to forums, it especially sucks, as I have to cancel the post half-way through to avoid a double post.

I've run Malwarebytes, too, and it doesn't pick up anything.

Have you tried deleting your biscuits?

If someone you only know through an online forum (for instance, CFC) and who you don't particularly care about suddenly PM you and tells you that he is madly in love with you, what would be your reaction?

Reaction:

Erm... Gee.. Wow... Err...

Have you forgotten your meds my friend?

how old are you? (don't want to do anything illegal...)
are you a girl? (if it's a boy he'll be disappointed..)
where do you live? (with all respect.. but if she'd live in Panama I think we would have a small problem..)
and... WHY???? you don't know me!!!! (well... yeah...)

"Umm. What? I... what?!"

Take a little time to get to know the person, cautiously. If you think there might be something there, see where it goes. If you don't, be upfront in telling them that. If that doesn't work, be blunt. If that doesn't work, put them on ignore.
