Prime Minister Irish McScotsman looked over his reports. The devastation of 2165 had led to a sudden plummet in trade income, but other than that Scotireland had been remarkably untouched. Industrial growth had been strong, and Scotireland had undergone rapid population growth. Only the UN territories could boast of similarly dense population. Whilst this meant a greater reliance on food imports, it also allowed the Scotireish secondary and tertiary industries to grow at a nearly unparralled rate, and the UN reports showed Scotireland had the highest levels of both GDP and GDP per Capita. Despite lacking even complete control of Britian, Scotireland estimated it held 4.4% of the worlds wealth. The people were happy, prosperous, and fiercely loyal.
The international front was less rosy. Across the Channel, a ferocious civil war raged in France, with the rebels slowly gaining the upper hand in a bloody war of attrition. In the far east, Rebuilding was still underway in the wastelands left by Hawai'i's devastating nuclear assualt on the world, and the E.K.N.C.'s defiant response. In China, the Scarlet lancers had finally overthrown the oppresive reigime, and their rule in Xinjiang appeared to be off to a good start. However, the terrorists led by the Former Government had vowed vengance, and peace seemed still far off. The Comintern and Warsaw Pact were unofficially butting heads, and worries abounded that war might break out, as Cominterns former foes in the LMCP began to align with them.
The World was in Chaos. A successful Domestic policy in the term of his Predecessor Scotty McScot-Scot had left McScotsman with a strong economy, but he feared he could not convert that into safety. The Scotireish military was one of the smallest in the World, and their other security measures looked increasingly puny. Even the secret programs the last government had put in place were precarious, and he McScotsman feared for thier survival. Hard times were approaching. He could feel it in his very soul.
