The NES Wiki - Get Wiki With It

Eh, I like the subjunctive and the imperative less in French than imparfait. For me, it's not too hard.

Right, to get this back on topic, anyone have an article request? I can write something if it's general, after I finish my update.

How about the evolution of the NESing map, the standard world map that is. That would be interesting, if not sort of obscure.

I do notice we have at least one Apolyton NESer contributing (Cyclotron). I also know we've got a lot of former Apolyton players here; it'd be interesting I think if those who were involved in the scene there tried working on that that'd be pretty handy, as most CFC players (myself included) don't really know anything about Apolyton's NES history.

Things I mentioned earlier will come over the next few days, been kind of delayed and distracted; sorry.

Don't appologize, you're doing more than anyone for the wiki. It's not like you're the mod and we have to sit around and wait for you to update. ;)

Here's basically my thoughts on organization:
  • NESing, being the verb form, is the main action (it is what we all do), and under that are things like orders, updates, stories, and so on. It's the process. Page and category.
  • NESer(s), the participants, are set up like they are now. If somebody wants to start working on this page feel free, there's a skeleton already there. Page and category (subcategory of NESing; current NESer list a subcategory of NESer category--follow that?
  • NES, the actual format of NESes; types, history, and so on. Page and category (subcategory of NESing, future directory or summaries listing a subcategory of NES category).
Essentially, it'd be built like a tree; NESing would be the trunk, NESer and NES the main branches, each splitting off into their own subcategories, on and on. Room for growth would be in there by doing subpages for things like history and what not as more is added. That sound sensible to folks? Any opinions?
I think this sounds reasonable too, I like the split into process, participant and game. And since tossi also agreed, and no one has spoken against, I've implemented the category tree as you've outlined it (NESing -> NESer, NES).

However, as I started adding category markups to pages, I find myself in a bit of doubt regarding what exactly should go where. In particular, what should go under the NES category? Analogous to the NESer category, I would envision the NES category to actually be the NES directory, rather than entailing it. From this point of view, things like NES types and the like would sort under the process (the main NESing trunk), possibly as a subcategory (Category:NES types).

Since it's not all that many pages, I'll go ahead and add the Category:NES to all the NES type articles now, since I started, but I would be interested in hearing what others think on this issue.

thanks to whoever started my stub, i've given it my own personal touch, but my knowledge of wiki is limited, give Captain2 a search

That would be me. :smug:

I like the flags/images on your page--it's definitely original!

thanks man, yeah i figured i needed to dress it up a bit, since i'm pretty inexperienced compaired to others i figure being flashy isnt a bad idea

Just a suggestion to people:

Red (non-existent) links annoy me. And on the recent changes page, there are a lot, since people haven't set up their user pages. However, everyone has a NESer page. So, I suggest that people, at least temporarily, redirect their user pages to their NESer pages. I've already done that with mine.

Redirects are a handy skill to learn anyway. The format for a redirect is:

#REDIRECT [[page name]]

So, my user page says #REDIRECT [[Jalapeno Dude]]. And when you click on a link to my user page (like the one that is in page histories), you're redirected to my NESer profile.

I recommend everyone does this for their user page. It also has the handy feature of then providing a link to your NESer profile on the top of the page when logged in.

Redirects are also very handy themselves. For example, I used it for UKnemesis. By default, capitalizing the first letter of a word doesn't matter, so uknemesis is the same as Uknemesis. But the correct name is UKnemesis, which isn't the same. So I just created a page for Uknemesis with contents of #REDIRECT [[UKnemesis]], and the problem was solved.

Retroactive deletion.

I've now added every NESer's first NES, start date, and nation. I'm going to start adding wanted pages and doing things like that now.

There's actually an easier way using the redirect template. It's probably better to use your method for user pages and this one for articles; in the former there's already the additional page, while in the second you don't have to create it. I'll start pointing out templates as they come online for ease of use.

Remaining user articles that are stubs have been stubbed, pages for Amenhotep7, fantasmo, Fëanor, and Perfectionist added. I've gone ahead and used the Redirect template on Fëanor and UKnemesis and knocked out the "Uknemesis" page.
Okay, hadn't seen that.

I was actually creating an Amenhotep7 page myself. :p Will add details to the new pages.

actually, noticed something interesting....

Starting with me since thats where I began.... following the list of who made the first NESes for the following player

Captain2- Gelion- Azale- Sheep-Jason the King-UKnemesis

notice anything?
