Darius looked down at the courtyard from his adobe palace. A working party was being assembled, to take advantage of the vast number of elephants and the corn growing nearby.

An exploration party was sent out, covering and charting vast amounts of terrain. From their afteraction report they gave to the Supreme King Darius the Great, they went up the west coast first, meeting Zulu scouts along the way. Their language was similar in nature to theirs, originating from the same ancient tribe that everyone on that continent was said to have come from. They departed under friendly circumstances, and the scouts quickly found Zululand. Another scouting expedition was formed back in Persepolis, and sent out east; the Northern Exploratory Group as it became known as was also sent east, ahead of the Eastern Exploratoyr Group and into the Archamid Mountains, a small cluster of mountains on the east coast.They went south onto a peninsula with mysterious, purple-and-green, small round fruits, which they dubbed grapes. The NEG went north along the east coast. They ended up on a small isthmus between the Great Eastern Sea and the Lesser Manchurio Sea, nearing the Northern Tundra.

Darius ordered the reluctant slaves to set up hunting camps near the elephant herds for the precious ivory, and commissioned a road and farm to be built on the massive corn fields west of Persepolis. The Persian people perfected methods of extracting minerals from the earth, and further practiced this skill by finding how to work and find copper deposits, though the only major deposit of copper on the continent, so far discovered, was near Zulu lands on the Northern coast. Meanwhile, while Darius contemplated the ramifications of having such a valuable mineral near Zulu (I keep wanting to say Shakan lands
) and not near his, several warbands were created out of the populace in Persepolis to control the savages and act as a buffer to Zulu forces. Meanwhile, the powerful aristocrats and land barons in Persepolis convinced Darius, after much heated debate, to adopt slavery so speed production of vital buildings and warbands up. It was adopted in the empire soon after the debates.

After runners from the scouting expeditions came back, a map of the continent so far was created, with resources found labeled and marked accordingly.
