The NRA Finally Responds With Its "Meaningful Contributions"

If only there had been an armed officer at Columbine:

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Neil Gardner soon would complete his second year as the uniformed community resource officer assigned to Columbine High School. Gardner, a 15-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, normally ate his lunch with the students in the cafeteria during first lunch period. His car would have been parked in his “normal spot” in front of the cafeteria doors - between the junior and senior parking lots.

On April 20, however, Deputy Gardner and campus supervisor Andy Marton, an unarmed school security officer employed by the school district, were eating lunch in Gardner’s patrol car. They were monitoring students in the “Smokers’ Pit,” a spot just to the northwest of campus in Clement Park where the students congregated to smoke cigarettes.

Gardner had just finished his lunch when he received a call over the school’s radio from a custodian. “Neil,” called the custodian in a panicked voice, “I need you in the back lot!”

I was thinking just the other day that we should be far more like Israel.

Imagine a country where much of the population was so fearful and paranoid of their neighbors that many of them kept automatic weapons at home with the full blessing of their government. Where many felt the need to be armed no matter where they go or what they do, despite there not being any significant terrorist activity for years. A nation that knows how to oppress and even engage in apartheid against its minorities. A country that knows it is still protected from countless UN sanctions due to its direct funding of so many politicians in a particular foreign country.

Israel should be a role model for any modern democratic country.

They particularly know the importance of teaching their children about "self-defense".

Of course, there is the occasional mass killing of Muslims and the desecration of Mosques. But that is the price they are willing to pay for their own freedom and liberty.

So lets see:

Population of Israel: 7.9 million
Population of USA: Over 300 million

Using the population ratio, Israel actually has more school shooting deaths per capita. Thanks for proving that guns are bad.

"Consevative logic". Let's arm school teachers to be a proper role model for children. It's what Jesus would have wanted.

And kudos to Fallen Angel Lord for disagreeing with him despite being a conservative yourself. Your stock just went up hugely in my personal estimation.

I had never heard that before. How interesting. Of course, smokers congregating off campus were far more important than doing the job he was actually paid to do.

I'm pretty sure the shootings are just more reported now, so the media can manipulate people into supporting gun control.
Not true.

According to the 2010 FBI crime data, since 1980, single victim killings have dropped by more than 40 percent. While that's very good news, there's a new sobering trend: Mass murders are on the rise. This New York Times article researched the frequency of mass murders. It found during the 20th century there were about one to two mass murders per decade until 1980. Then for no apparent reason they spiked, with nine during the 1980s and 11 in the 1990s. Since the year 2000 there have been at least 26,

That's why I'd rather them be concealed. But if its either shoot someone or be killed along with all your students, all bets are off.

You don't need teachers for that. Leave the James Bond stuff to security guards and police.

I'm not actually conservative. My vote for the last few elections(since I could vote) have been:

Kerry
McCain
Obama

I generally vote for who I believe in more. The right wing has just gone off the deep end these days.

Yet I get none for disagreeing with just about everyone at some point?;)

I don't think I'd take the statements of a blogger as being the unmitigated truth, especially given that there is a far more authoritative studies such as this one which seem to directly contradict it.

The U.S. mass murder rate does not seem to rise or fall with the availability of automatic weapons. It reached its highest level in 1929, when fully automatic firearms were expensive and mostly limited to soldiers and organized criminals. The rate dipped in the mid-1930s, staying relatively low before surging again in the 1970s through 1990s. Some criminologists attribute the late-century spike to the potential for instant notoriety: Beginning with Charles Whitman’s 1966 shooting spree from atop a University of Texas tower, mass murderers became household names. Others point out that the mass murder rate fairly closely tracks the overall homicide rate. In the 2000s, for example, both the mass murder and the homicide rates dropped to their lowest levels since the 1960s.

How many "automatic weapons", which are already banned, do you own?

Are you going to try to deny that assault weapons have been frequently used lately in mass killings? Do you claim to own any of those?

Oh, and since those laws are unconstitutional, they are invalid. As such, anyone resisting the enforcement thereof should receive Presidential pardon, and anyone enforcing them should be put on trial.

I only "Respect" them in the same sense that I would respect a gang of criminals that happen to have the brute force to get their way.

Ideally the NRA should be declared a terrorist organization and banned while gun confiscation and seizures happen.

I had plenty of teachers I wouldnt be comfortable with the thought of them having a weapon on them at all times.

Odd, when asked what weapons you owned, you wouldnt answer. And here you want others to answer your question?

Ah, irony.

How about this Mobboss the world has changed into a more violent place.

Not a very good student of history, are you?

Yea, I was amazed how many people didn't pick up on that in FB. That said, it's like 1 in 10 million per year. The fact that we, as a nation, feel the to make new laws or curb people's constitutional rights is silly over such a low number.

Odd, when asked what weapons you owned, you wouldnt answer. And here you want others to answer your question?

Ah, irony.
Just because I didn't respond to your quite obvious straw man doesn't make it "ironic" in the least. Again, I have posted numerous times about my own extensive history with firearms, including my gun ownership. It simply wasn't germane to that thread, and I'm certainly not bound in any way to answer your questions, much less the completely irrelevant ones.

Dommy claimed his constitutional rights were being violated when he doesn't actually own an automatic weapon himself. The vast majority of Americans don't because they have been banned for many decades now unless you have a very rare permit. So his non-existent right to own a banned weapon wasn't really being violated. Now was it?

Not a very good student of history, are you?
Now that's ironic. Here is just one recent instance from this very thread:

But these school shootings only cropped up in the last 2 decades.

And that's just the US. Here are some more from other countries.
