The Omega Project: Development Thread

Hey storm G take your time to consider....then please return to your place at the core of the engine the drives this place (Yes, I know people! there are many others to.)

Does anyone Remember why Kingpin left? I can see why this place loses its great talent and builders, CIv4 is not the big reason, believe me, but In this case I see people making amends.

Enjoy some well derseved RnR friend

Well we got time to go OT now don;t we. Screw it I can't blame SW for taking a break.

Im just wondering why this Kinpin guy who gave us a great mod(one of the biggest and best) was targeted for being greedy, a bad influence on the community, and inconsiderate, for making his mod to big to be convient for them, although complety ignoring the fact, he put in the extra effert to add BITTORRNT, Ignoring he had [/B]giving his secrets out, to a worthy artist who took the time to contact him and ask politely.

For Kinpins mistake  he is publicly insulted first, then after the secret formula is found, they enjoy flauning it. But then They say, "Oh come on! Storm Grunt, where ya going? everythings OK"

Now I got to ask as one example. Why is it then SoG, another reputable designer/artist, has long held the secret to a 5th era(Far Horizons) and no one came on his thread to put him down for not sharing and then flaunting later they had discover it

In Storm Grunts case the behaviour was worse cause the mod was still in production and the sickning behaviour may have sabatoged it, just to take a hit at Kingpin.

Thats right Kingpin, the guy who made one of the biggest mods out there and cared enough to made sure every pedia entry was filled to its fullest. all 1000 of em. The guy who first used Bit torrent cause he cared others has to wait to long to receive the the long hours of work he had put in.
Kinpin the one who gave all these wonderful unbefore seen mech units to Stormgrunt so we all could enjoy them.

TA Jones,

What part of "Quit beating this dead horse" don't you understand?

And for the record, I'm not particuarly interested in downloading TBX-R ATM, especially just so I can get some modding technique that should be made freely available to the community.

Now that I know about the 5th era thingy, you can bet I'll grill Sword of Geddon about it, and post a tutorial, providing it would prove useful to a lot of people (not for me, though... 4 eras are more than enough to worry with in the FF mod).

Besides, Bittorrent doesn't work well with wireless, I'm afraid. :( (due to the inherant instabilities in any kind of wireless connection).

I'm really sorry that my spleen-venting was mistakenly taken as a direct attack by Storm Grunt, and I wish I'd have been able to see through my red fog of absolute rage enough to make it clear in my rant that it was not, in any way, directed at him, but at Kingpin and others who think that they're better than everybody else and that we should clog up our hard drives with mods we don't particularly want to play just to learn a few modding techniques or get one or two units.

Since Storm Grunt has been MIA for the past few days, I'm going to email him an explanation and apology, and hope that can, in some small measure, make up for this terrible misunderstanding and general mess that's become of his thread. :(

So, now why don't we stop stirring up this hornet's nest and get back to the original topic here.

 Guy's, please let it go.
Hikaro's rant was a minor issue at best,it just happened to come at a time where I was using this thread and forum as a stress break from some RL issues that are bringing me down. When this thread went in the direction it's in now it became more of a downer than a break. Don't worry I'm not going anywhere and once I get back into the right frame of mind I will resume my regular activities....

The Mod just keeps getting bigger and bigger so it's probably a long way off Swoogy.

The next three Ripptide Battletech units I'm repairing for Kingpin and the mod are:

scosjeuc2.png

Same problem as the rest the last seven frames of animation are blank, not a problem to fix just time consuming.

Ye-Gads! This mod's got more mechs than you can shake a ShadowSword at!

BTW, when I get done with the never-ending unit pack from heck (a.k.a. my rennaisance-modern elven units... I just found out that there's a slightly noticeable glitch on the fortify animations of the first 4 units in the pack that need fixed, and I still need to finish my re-colored version of the sniper), I'll be starting on some smallish (about human sized) robots that you maybe could use for scout or hunter-killer drones... The scout types will be two legged and have melee attacks, while the H-K types will be 4-legged and have ranged weapons (Gatling guns for the one and Lasers for the other).

Would you be interested in any of them... A pic of the concept art is in my Elven industrial/modern unit pack thread.

Thanks HT, I'm sure I can find a place for them. Most likely with the Cylonic Empire.

Glad you can use them (when I get around to making them... A slightly difficult proposition considering that I'm now working full time, Going to Night classes 4 nights a week, and taking Tae Kwon Do lessons on two of those nights)....

BTW, will this mod include any Mech-killer weapons, such as the WH40K ShadowSword for use as defensive units?

Storm Grunt, I can't believe I haven't checked this thread in a while, the mod looks really great and is coming along quite quickly.

How are you going to incorporate naval units? I've often wondered if mankind will still build boats when we have mastered interstellar travel. Maybe some ocean-going spaceships would be more appropriate?

Have you thought about adding any more civs? I think something to represent either the alliance or independents from the Firefly universe would be a nice addition. And Reavers would be great as well. Anyways, I bring this up because I plan on trying my hand at making some sci-fi units. I especially like Firefly, because it mixes the old and new in an innovative way, something I think your mod is doing. PM me if you have any specific requests, but hopefully some of my upcoming units can help you out. Finally, I'd love to see a Serenity type cargo ship made by someone who could pull that off. Maybe if you thought it would make a good naval transport for this mod, a Bryce star would be willing to make it...

Hikaro, is that new avatar a leaderhead? :p

Why yes it is!

BTW, The unit pack from Hell (the Elven renaisance-modern one) should be done no later than this weekend, barring any further animation screwups, and the robot pack will be next.

:) Thanks for your interest NavyDawg. You will be happy to know that all your recent modern inf units have been put in the "to add" folder for the mod as first era inf flavor units.

I pondered what to do about the naval aspect for quite some time and went down the road of since you start with old world known technology along with the production limitations of colonizing a new planet, that the best approach would be to start with standard modern naval vessels for the first 2 eras and then switch to the WH40K naval units and the X-COM subs for the last two eras.

I did leave some room for another civ or two. The main problem is a shortage of modern/sci-fi human leaderheads. I'm not familiar with the Firefly universe you speak of. Can you give me a link to what you are referring to?

:mischief: The only unit request I really, really want is the predator unit for the advanced barbarian, that I have been requesting for quite some time. Here's a link to the request thread for the unit. Near the bottom of the first page is a link to a free model too. If you feel like taking it on that would be great if not I understand. Again thanks for your intrest!

Storm Grunt,
I checked out the predator model, and it looks good, but as was said in the other thread, I can't pose it.:( Maybe I can find some good props and still give it a shot. I'll let you know.

Firefly was a short lived fox show with a later motion picture. Show and movie are both quite good, if you haven't seen them. Then main theme is that a modern authoritarian central government known as the Alliance is trying to create a perfect society on several core planets. However, there are those on the fringe worlds that would rather have a less than perfect society to preserve their personal freedoms. The story follows the crew of a freighter (Firefly class) named Serenity on several adventures as they conduct various legal and illegal operations. The Captain of the crew fought as part of the Independents against the Alliance years before in a civil war, which they lost. It mixes western and sci-fi imagery in a unique way.

NAVYDAWG: I just saw Serentity (got the DVD), and I must say that the Reavers would make good advanced Barbs.... When I'm taking my unit making break, I'll see about grabbing some screenies of some of the spaceships and such....
