The "OMG! Look what happened!" Thread

Happens all the time, practically because Arabia starts with guilds which didn't use to be prereq for optics but now is, even after Rhye nerfed them by no sailing to start with.

I've seen Roman, Arabian and Turkish conquerors. (and is it just me, or does Turkey like northeastern Canada more than they should?)
But I don't think I've ever seen this. Russians colonizing the Azores and the Vikings settling northern Africa. Both in the same game too, and I don't think anything I did really affected the AI.
Though I loaded one of the best starts I've ever seen. (3000 BC, of course) Marseilles was the Christian holy city, and Bordeaux had just been captured by the Spanish. So those two cities flipped to me (which would already be good enough, even if Marseilles wasn't a holy city), but on top of that the Spanish declared, letting me get some free troops. :)
Although, as shown in the third screenshot, I had hordes of barbs attacking Constance. Got some CG3 longbows off them though. :p

So, I start up RFC for the first time in months (my graphics card pooped out). I decide to play America; the loading time is NINETY MINUTES. I'm wondering what in the world is going on, since it shouldn't be taking this long. So I went into worldbuilder, and this is what I saw (please don't mind the resource bubbles, I didn't expect to see what I saw and wanted to get the pictures quickly):
Spoiler :

Not too unusual, huh? Both the Aztecs and Maya living (and the Inca too) and none being vassals--well, the Aztecs vassalised the Maya--is a bit weird, but nothing really strange. Dutch New York, a conquered French New Orleans and the Vikings in Vinland is a bit weirder, but still not outside of possibility. I might as well fill you all in on the rest of the colonial front--Mali is a Spanish vassal, Ethiopia collapsed, South Africa and Venezuela are Dutch, Australia is about to be colonized by the Brits, and I'm reasonably sure none of the far eastern civs are vassals (I didn't check too closely).
Spoiler :

This isn't overly strange either, I suppose. Germans take northern Greece while the Turks take the rest, then move on Russia and collapse them. The Vikings help take the remains. It gets a bit stranger when you notice that the French have lost Lyons to Germany and are vassals of them, but still, with a monster Germany, who's to say what happens? Well, a Dutch Rome, I guess. Oh and, by the way, Portugal is Islamic and a vassal, probably also of Germany. German power?
Spoiler :

This is what happens. For those of you counting, the Ottomans hold most or all of the territory of: Themselves, Greece, Babylon, Persia, Arabia, Egypt, and Carthage. They're moving in on Ethiopia (which is entirely native for whatever reason). Germany holds or has vassalised Greece, France, Portugal, and Russia. The Ottomans also have far more people. Yeah. I want to see the fallout when those two go to war, it would be a glorious bloodbath.

Just thought I'd show you all, since I think it's interesting the game developed so curiously. If you care, the game's gone easily so far--I've entered a defensive pact with the Aztecs, the Dutch flipped peacefully (and I got THREE East Indiamen!), and the English declared war and are about to lose all of their Canadian possessions. The natives I've encountered haven't attacked for whatever reason. I'm not very far into the game, but it seems like it'll be quite easy.

Oh, and sorry if I brought this topic back from the dead. If it's taboo, well, I didn't want to start a new one and this was appropriate :p

No, than you for bumping it. Now, I have to do hw and stop getting distracted.

I've seen a Dutch Rome as well. :p Quite fun a sight, actually. Makes Europe seem more diverse.

I need to play as them sometime and colonize parts of the Mediterranean. Has anyone experimented with it before?

I wonder what counts as a golden age for the barbarians... discovering a tech?

It just means that a barbarian city (or several) has generated at least 2 great people and used them to generate a GA. Very patient planning on their part, I might say. May be it's because the Mongols found their Kievan subjects to be very good specialists.

Yeah I thought about reporting it as a bug but then realized it's due to them owning several Kievan cities.

Let me present you the Republic of the Seven United Sovietic Netherlands

Spoiler :

They also took all of Siberia after that :p

I take it that Russia collapsed to independents and there was a bit of a free-for-all? Otherwise I can't explain why Greece also owns a city in the southern Ural mountains area in that screenshot.

Yup; Germany collapsed followed by Russia, and I thought that the Vikings, Greeks and Romans would share all that. But then, the Dutch took one city in the North (near Finland), which already surprised me, then a second, a third... A finished owning all of Russia :crazyeye:

-- oh, forgot that Greece was the Ducth's vassal at some point, which may explain why some cities went under Greek control (especially some in deep Siberia)

Hello,

I never had an OMG moment as surprising as those described on this thread. The AI tends to behave quite rationally in my games.
I thought I would share this one though. Nothing world-changing, however, I really wonder why (and how?) our German and Dutch friends did that.

Looks like the Dutch and the Germans had a small war where they traded cities. Also it looks like the German city of Frankfurt was raized(or even never built), which usually spells doom for Germany and the falls into a civil war and is tooken over by the Dutch, French, and Russians.

A pic of my own...

The Cordobans are a vassal to Spain. Looks like they are the Spanish North Africa(No pun intended).
