Iapetus, the OMG -moment in your story was that you allowed the mongols to control Kazan in the first place.

I'd been wondering why you said that, given that there was no compelling reason for me to have settled a miserable bit of desert on the edge of Mongolia, until a later game where I founded Kazan myself on the Volga.

I assumed I'd misremembered the name of the original city, but I've just loaded up my old save to find out what it really was, and found that the Mongols had actally founded a city called "Kazan", on the tile north west of the lake to the NE of Lake Balkash).

I don't know what this city is supposed to be (given the scale and geography of that part of the map seems a bit screwy, and Wikipedia doesn't recognise several of the city names around there).

I know. I once lost a battle with >99.9% winning chance and won a battle with <0.1 winning chance.

Also, I have more luck when I have a 40% winning chance than when I have a 70% winning chance.

The best moment for me was when on turn 2 as 3000bc China I got an event giving me a Pig resource, Pasture and Road next to Beijing.

so... i start as USA in a 600AD game...massive Mongolia,massive Khmer, Mongolian Aksum... weak CHina,Mongolia has a massive territory, from persia to aroung Beijing. Khmer has almost entire indonesia and also has entire south China, and of course, ENTIRE central and south china. Khmer is also very advanced and looks like it never collapsed, because it is just way too strong
Japan is strong, Toku wanting to sign open borders, and colonizing USA west coast... no Portugal, French portuguese island west of lisboa (forgot the name), Spanish Lisboa, France collapses with portugal spawning in his little island, and then start colonizing Brazil (yea, no one bothered about Brazil, except Spain, when it conquered some cities in north brazil (i think they were french).
weak England, vassal of the Ottomans, when it breaks free it gets uber strong, with infantry when most nations don't even have Railroads.
Germany is uber, after French collapse they conquered France, and invaded England, conquered most of the british islands and made the english collapse (and i conquered plymouth and a city in ireland) and also punched URSS hard, if it was not a congress it would've got to ST.Petersburg, because the congress got a city they had in russia :/
the dutch are german vassals, but until some time ago were fourth in scores! having colonies in Canada,South America and South Africa (sorry, idk if there are any more)

very strange game so far,btw... there was already a World War because i invaded the 2 cities England had in Canada. USA, Germany, Ottoman Empire, Khmer, a bunch of "minor" nations x England, Mongolia, URSS, Soviet Mali, Soviet Scandinavia...


Edit : btw, Khmer just got Indian Capital, india is just 1 city, then Khmer will rule everything from India to South China and Indonesia.

I was playing as Khmer, going for UHV. It was 1420 everything on track, had 12000 culture, my average city size was a few turns from reaching 10, when what happens? A plague.... ARG!!

no, it isn't a modmod, i don't even use mod-mods in RFC or modify anything.
and i am using latest RFC version.

EDIT : forgot to say... Germany got ALL the industrial and modern wonders in Frankfurt. Statue of Liberty, for example, was 11 turns after i spawned.

started a new USA game to see if it would turn out better than the other one...
Arabia still here, even with the ottomans, and it is stronger than them. also something ULTRA strange... germany built Little Germany in Canada
and still Khmer India...after Arabia collapsed of course, with Portugal getting Patliputra from Khmer in a congress. but this time no ULTRA Khmer, they are Mongol Vassals, together with Japan...
URSS has alliance with socialist Mongolia btw, and Greece is a URSS vassal (interesting, no? considering it was before URSS, orthodox alliance?)

I'd seen one, but never two.

Backgroud: Netherlands got pushed around in Europe and never could settle there (I was playing Dawn of Civ, in epic speed, and there where a lot of Great Artists been born which meant cultures where very strong); they ended up winning Mbanza Congo in a Congress. As Italy I succesfully invaded France; they later ressurged only to be defeated again, and their capital was transfered to their remaining colony.

I think the French are the least predictable Euro-civ when it comes to colonizing the New World.

i can't take screenshots in my pc for some reason print-screen always picks the desktop, never any game or anything related to full-screen.
