Is there a difference between conviction and stubbornness?
Conviction doesn't imply a willingness to act on it. Stubbornness has the connotation of being unreasonably obstinate, i.e. conviction beyond reason.

Stoicism is a philosophical school...:p j/k

Stoic is being free from passion about something, but apathy has the added connotations of not being interested in something; one could maintain current knowledge stoically, but an apathetic person would not bother to do that.

Question- (to Dachs) i can't understand the links to your alt history stuff...any help? ( i wandered around a Civil War one, but it seemed to just be our TL)

How do you mean? The Titanomachia link, or Symphony's thread listing all alternate history projects up to a few months ago?

the 'list of published works' one..it can be hard to find good, completed TLs ...

Ah. I recommend das' Ming, British Revolution, and Eurasian War for completed TLs. I suppose my own Meade one isn't terrible either. :p If a straight chronology is what you want, Israelite's Age of Elisabeth is good.

All of you language nazi's, I need an answer.

conviction is moral issues and stuff where there is no concrete right/wrong. Stubbornness is not admiting you're wrong on something like math where there is a definitive right answer.

Second part-
Don't know, don't care ;)
why do yuo need a Nazi, those words are quite different...
I take it you're not american? A grammar nazi is somebody who corrects people for tiny mistakes like than/then or there/their. Somebody who actually cares about perfect grammar and spelling.

Not a real nazi at all. Just as annoying as one.

PS. you spelled 'you' wrong :p <-----Grammar(Language) Nazi

Edit: This is what I get for typing a response and then leaving for fifteen minutes

Some parts of the world might use the term grammar police, like fashion police, but its a bit derogatory so they might only use it in defence and/or with sarcasm.

IIRC he's from Pennsylvania. :p

1. How does one go about selling one's plasma? Does one just find the closest Red Cross or something and make an appointment?

2. How does one inquire into diamond-mining practices and where a given company gets its diamonds? They will tell one that their diamonds aren't being bought to finance wars, but nothing about the people who extract them from the ground itself.

Look in the phone book for "plasma services", or "Plasma donation centers". They usually have their own facility.

And actually the Red Cross won't buy from the donor, though they do sell to hospitals to recoup their operating costs.
