The Rules of Being a Man

ahh...wine drinking is okay in a fixed setting or w/ dinner or whatever. they even say that a glass of red a day is good for the heart. drinking it while watching a ball game, or out w/ the fellas is kinda weird but hey, if that's your bag then so be it.

i myself wouldn't do it but whatever floats your boat.

PS i used to drink Thuderbird as a teenager...bleh!

Plus Australians make damn fine wines, so it can't be that unmanly....
You are so correct. We are starting to gain a big reputation in the internation wine industry as a a world leader. So Rambuchan, you are quite correct to be  , afterall, it is just another thin us Aussies are better at than the English. ;)

Hell, I still drink Crown Royal

Finally something Canadian that I like.

Very good point El Justo. It is a matter of venue. Wine drinking at a sporting event or hanging with the boys is just wrong. At a cocktail party it's suspect (red over white for sure) but if the setting is over dinner when you're putting on the full court press it is a magnificent closing mechanism.

:king: Props to Godwynn for pimping Crown Royal :king:

now there is another real man's drink.....

@Ram
no trolling there.... aussie wines are great ;)

I think in North America people look at wine like it's an aristocratic thing... In Southern Europe, everyone just drinks alot of it at the table with family, friends, lovers etc :D

I try my hardest ;), which is what you have to do with Crown.

Yeah, I started out mixing it with Sunny Delight, and I've worked my way up to where I'm at out, just gimme a Coca-Cola chaser and I'll be alright. :)

@ El J: You've unearthed a dark secret of mine too. Thunderbird was actually the very same stuff I got drunk on as a teenager. Sad innit?

@ Jonatas & Hero: Yeah Aussie wines are good but I don't see how this relates to manliness at all!

@ Godwyn: I must say I do not know this Crown stuff.

Go to your local Liqour store, it comes in a purple velvet bag. Be prepared to fork over some cash for it. Once you try it you will either think it is a godsend, or it is filtered from the urine of satan.

Californian attitudes are more like S. Europe, there is a lot of good wine here that is also affordable. Any guy on a 'serious' date needs to know something about wines, otherwise he comes across as a rube. A nice glass of red in the hot tub after dinner goes down nicely too. Drinking wine at a bar is unmanly though, and under no circumstances should a man order anything that contains the words 'breeze', 'mist', 'cooler' or 'spritzer'.

Real men only drink the best. This is not an issue of price, but of quality.

Don't pigeon hole this as North American. I do the same with family and lovers. I simply wouldn't drink it in a pub (tavern in my case) with my mates. I live in a beer and shot kind of town. An example of acceptable venues, tonight I am going to see Elvis Costello and Emmylou Harris the concert is outdoors with a picnic atmosphere so wine will be the alcohol of choice. A Castello Banfi Brunello for me and a nice Cakebread Chardonnay for my girl.
This topic may be a region specific issue. In San Francisco, like southern Europe, it would be perfectly acceptable to drink wine in a bar because of the access to Napa and Sonoma etc. However, I would like to know how many fans of AC Milan bring a nice chianti to the game?

Oh I know California is good for wines..... ;) and I wouldn't drink wine if I was going to a club or football match either
What I was trying to say is that wine is a really integral part of Mediterranean culture, a stapel like bread, olives and cheese. Don't know if it's quite at that level for society at large in the New World wine making regions though, yet :D
I have a feeling I'm seriously taking this thread off-topic though....

to try to make it on topic, if you're going to drink Crown Royal, you have to drink it straight, or on ice.... Real men DON'T MIX

Gentlemen: Please be informed that the Roadtrip Bill has been passed. Also, my thanks to you all for your manly assistance on the much debated Alcohol Bill. This has been considered and passed too. There are also two further additions to the Macho Statute Book - making it 4 new rules in all! Look for the <<< !!! Red Text !!! >>> as you scroll down the Opening Post.

@ Winston: What exactly is it that you are on about? :D

On the contrary, Real Men are the only ones that can take their Crown Royal with Mountain Dew. I call it a Royal Dew, 'tis my drink of choice. :D

The alcohol bill needs modified. The best beer is Guinness, lots of acceptable European types, but certainly not that sissy watery stuff they serve in the States. Also, tequila is acceptable for shots, but if you don't finish the worm then you are another word for sissy. :p
