All right, gents, big update for you today. One of the fun ones, too. Activating the Servo and building up a business have worked out great for me, in terms of mixing up gameplay...no longer am I stuck skilling, making babies, skilling, and making babies.
Nehru Legacy 7.5 -- Growth
Now that Lindsay has come of age, Sinead introduces her to the way of the witch.
Servos have reduced needs, and regain energy by 'recharging' in the sun.
They only need to do this every other day or so. I don't think the Sims 1 servos needed recharging, but then they weren't constantly active: they spent their time
in a chamber and could be activated, whereupon they did chores automatically. They generally acted like NPCs, although Sims could go to the station and tell it to Serve Food. You had no control over what kind of food it served, though, so you were just as likely to get a tray of cans as the actual meal. I did enjoy replacing their skins to make them look like a regular Sim, and thus have an android wandering around...
Only minutes into the game, I witness Renee shove Sinead. Sinead doesn't seem to care, taking the abuse with a smile.
...and giving it right back, again with a smile.
Time to expand the firm.
The Nehru Depot, which is vaugely hideous and which will serve as a place for the Nehrus to sell random stuff.
...like mannequins! Yessir, drop in by the Depot and pick up your genune Nehru-stamped-seal of approval mannequin. Buy them by the bulk, and we'll throw in army uniforms so you can play 'general'!
Hrm. Can't I charge more?
The Depot consists of an open floor for the clearinghouse, two bathrooms, and a rear room that is employees-only. I'll put Sinead's Throne of Light in there. As you can see, Sinead is accompanying Wilhelm to run the store. While it's POSSIBLE to run a store with just one Sim, that Sim will have to work the register, restock, and make sales all on their lonesome. I built a clothes store from scratch like that, and I don't intend to do it again.
While Wilhem uses his "Dazzle" to work the floor and keep people buying the mannequins, Sinead handles the cash register.
....very slowly.
Once someone has purchased a mannequin, Wilhelm has to replace them.
Unfortunately, there's no way for Sims to improve their cash register skill without enduring all the screw-ups.
I use my business perks to get better and better wholesale discounts, so we're making a better profit on the mannequin sells.
Having a witch on the lot is helpful: not only is she an ideal employee, only needing a few minutes in her Throne of Light to be fully charged and ready to work, but she can send away the roaches that miserable evil witch keeps zapping onto the lot.
Wilhelm was complaining about "weather in his house", so I had to replace the transparent awning with a tiled roof. I was going for a sunroom effect, but I think I need transparent floor tiles to do it properly.
We are making good headway on recouping the initial layout costs.
Whew! No more customers throwing their purchases on the floor and storming out in a huff.
What - no, she's not HERE, you silly robot. Why are you calling here when she's probably at the house?!
Excellent.
After the wholesale perks are taken, I move into reputation. This will make it easier for the Nehrus to make friends. It's a GREAT boon in regular play, though I don't care about it in this game because my Nehrus are mostly alone in the neighborhood.
I also took the liberty of trying to sell these robots.
...and eventually found out how to extort people for the mannequins, though I'll save that for a later day.
For now, though, let's return home.
(More to come, obviously...this update will have just over 100 pictures.)
