The thread for space cadets!

China will win the race this time. They are motivated and will spend the money.

I read elsewhere folks commenting about this subject that China is having trouble with their rockets and that they overhype their "meagre" achievements and promises in their social media. SpaceX might be having trouble as well but it's getting work done.

Starship 11 is about to take off in 16 minutes.

It will reuse the Heavy Booster from Starship 8 that was caught with the chopsticks.

That part will land in the ocean this time.

This is the final Block 2 design of Starship that will fly.
The next one will be the bigger and taller Block 3 Starship.

Heat tiles have been peeled off the heat shield again to stress-test re-entry under less than ideal conditions once more.

In Berlin you can still see the east - west border because of the new LED street lights in the west

It is a day for space junk. Something bad is going happen eventually.

United MAX Hit by Falling Object at 36,000 Feet

Authorities are now considering whether a falling object, possibly from space, caused damage to the windshield and frame on a United 737 MAX over Colorado on Thursday. Various reports that include watermarked photos of the damage suggest the plane was struck by a falling object not long after taking off from Denver for Los Angeles. One of the photos shows a pilot’s arm peppered with small cuts and scratches. In his remarks after the incident, the captain reportedly described the object that hit the plane as “space debris,” which would suggest it was from a rocket or satellite or some other human-made object.

Possible space junk found near Western Australian mine site

Suspected space debris is believed to have crashed near a WA mine site, with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau confirming the object was not from a commercial aircraft.

They have found UFO's orbiting earth before sputnik. Could this be aliens?

Transients in the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS-I) may be associated with nuclear testing and reports of unidentified anomalous phenomena

Transient star-like objects of unknown origin have been identified in the first Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS-I) conducted prior to the first artificial satellite. We tested speculative hypotheses that some transients are related to nuclear weapons testing or unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) reports. A dataset comprising daily data (11/19/49—4/28/57) regarding identified transients, nuclear testing, and UAP reports was created (n = 2,718 days). Results revealed significant (p = .008) associations between nuclear testing and observed transients, with transients 45% more likely on dates within + /- 1 day of nuclear testing. For days on which at least one transient was identified, significant associations were noted between total number of transients and total number of independent UAP reports per date (p = 0.015). For every additional UAP reported on a given date, there was an 8.5% increase in number of transients identified. Small but significant (p = .008) associations between nuclear testing and number of UAP reports were also noted. Findings suggest associations beyond chance between occurrence of transients and both nuclear testing and UAP reports. These findings may help elucidate the nature of POSS-I transients and strengthen empirical support for the UAP phenomenon.

Confirmation bias. People drolls with UFOs and such. Another example:

It is an interesting object, true, but the most amazing thing is the amount of click bait, sensationalism, baseless speculation and pure bullcrap around this event. Including that scientist - clown Avi Loeb. People must be really bored lately.

I have notwatched the video, but I thought this was interesting:

What makes 3I/ATLAS so extraordinary
  • Its trajectory aligns closely with the solar system’s ecliptic plane, something statistically very rare for an object arriving from outside.
  • It exhibits a strange sunward jet, detected during July and August 2025, which differs from the usual behaviour of comets.
  • The object is larger and faster than both ‘Oumuamua and Borisov, making it more difficult to study in detail.
  • Its gas plume shows a high nickel-to-cyanide ratio with very low water content — just 4%, an unusual composition for known comets.
  • It records extremely high polarisation readings, a phenomenon never documented before in interstellar objects.
What this does not say but others do is that it is really close to a trajectory that would be captured by the suns gravity, so only a small change in momentum would mean it stays with us.

I am sure there another 3 millions of parameters that make it completely unextraordinary and obviously a natural comet. But we choose the few ones that fit our relate. For instance a guy has red hair, is 2 meters high and was born in a small island, like the 0.000001% of humanity. Therefore he must be extraterrestrial. . That is confirmation bias, we do it continuously, but a scientist should be more careful with it.

Therefore he must be extraterrestrial.
The argument as I understand it is "therefore we should look particularly hard at it". It seems like a low probability but high impact investigation. However low the probability of finding a technosignature the observations have a greater expected impact on our lives than any number of weird galaxy's from the early universe or whatever else the telescopes would be looking at if not this.

The impact would be unprecedented. I wonder how people would react to unambiguous evidence, not yet of extraterrestrial life, but of intelligent life, even intelligent life faaar superior to us. Universal happiness? Fear? Collective Madness? Nothing at all? Would authorities make it public?

expectations were high . For combat in Honorverse terms ; its closest point to Mars matched with Hegseth/Trump talk with all the generals and admirals in the American service . Not sure of exactly what but the supposed military that defends the Solar System in the UFO fables of the 1980s might very well be Bidenist in MAGA eyes and sad that no explosions could be relayed real time and Avi Loeb has been doing his part even if it is unclear what it aims to do .

First Evidence for a Non-Gravitational Acceleration of 3I/ATLAS at Perihelion

By the date of its perihelion, 3I/ATLAS displayed the first evidence of a non-gravitational acceleration. The report (accessible here) was filed by Davide Farnoccia, a navigation engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena who received his PhD in Mathematics from the Galileo Galilei School of Graduate studies at the University of Pisa, Italy.

The non-gravitational acceleration was measured at the perihelion distance of 1.36 times the Earth-Sun separation (defined as an astronomical unit or `au’), equivalent to 203 million kilometers. It had two components in the orbital plane of 3I/ATLAS:
  • A radial acceleration away from the Sun of 135 kilometers (=9x10^{-7}au) per day squared.
  • A transverse acceleration relative to the Sun’s direction of 60 kilometers (=4x10^{-7}au) per day squared.
If 3I/ATLAS is propelled by the rocket effect of ejected gas, then momentum conservation implies that the object would lose half its mass over a characteristic timescale equal to the ejection speed divided by the measured non-gravitational acceleration. For a thermal ejection speed of a few hundred meters per second, the evaporation half-life of 3I/ATLAS is 6 months. This implies that over the month it takes 3I/ATLAS to cross a spatial scale of order its perihelion separation from the Sun, 3I/ATLAS would lose about a tenth of its mass. Such a massive mass loss should be detectable in the form of a large plume of gas surrounding 3I/ATLAS during the upcoming months of November and December 2025.

ESA’s Juice spacecraft would be the first to detect this large mass loss in the first week of November. Later, on December 19, 2025, 3I/ATLAS will arrive closest to Earth at a separation of 269 million kilometers, when hundreds of ground-based telescopes as well as the Hubble and Webb space telescopes will have the best opportunity to observe it. Given that data, it should be clear if 3I/ATLAS lost a tenth of its mass through sublimation of volatile ices when it was heated by intense sunlight at perihelion.

Massive evaporation of 3I/ATLAS might explain its unusual brightening, as reported in a new paper (accessible here) based on observations of 3I/ATLAS from the STEREO, SOHO and GOES-19 instruments during the months of September and October 2025. The data shows a rapid rise in the brightness of 3I/ATLAS, scaling inversely with distance from the Sun to the power of -7.5 (±1).

Alternatively, the non-gravitational acceleration might be the technological signature of an internal engine. This might also explain the report on 3I/ATLAS getting bluer than the Sun (accessible here). For a natural comet this blue color is very surprising. Dust is expected to redden the scattered sunlight, and the surface of 3I/ATLAS is expected to be ~20 times colder than the 5,800 degrees Kelvin at the photosphere of the Sun, resulting in it having a redder color than the Sun. The blue appearance at perihelion is a ninth anomaly in the list of unexpected properties of 3I/ATLAS (compiled most recently here). It could potentially be explained by a hot engine or a source of artificial light. However, it might instead be a signature of ionized carbon monoxide (as discussed here) for a natural comet.

man , short of seeing the crew , this is not good enough . Conspiracy wise , for us Brown people to give up our so called false gods .

A New Image of the Red Spider Nebula Captures the Radiance of a Dying Star

In late October, the James Webb Space Telescope’s Near-InfraRed Camera (NIRCam) captured the Red Spider Nebula, or NGC 6537.

“After ballooning into cool red giants, these stars shed their outer layers and cast them into space, exposing their white-hot cores,” scientists say. Ultraviolet light from the star then causes the material to glow as it’s cast off into space. “The planetary nebula phase of a star’s life is as fleeting as it is beautiful, lasting only a few tens of thousands of years.”

Chinese Astronauts Stuck in Space After Suspected Damage to Return Craft

Will we be the last generation to be able to stay in space?

China was forced to postpone the return of three astronauts from its Tiangong space station following a suspected collision with space debris that appears to have struck the spacecraft they were supposed to return in.

“The Shenzhou-20 crewed spacecraft is suspected to have been struck by a small piece of orbital debris, and assessment of the impact and associated risks is currently under way,” the agency said in a statement.

The crew was supposed to return on Thursday, but the suspected debris strike forced them to delay the trip to “ensure the health and safety of the astronauts and the successful completion of the mission,” per the China Manned Space Agency.
