Certainly. I'll instruct the overseer to have them build a farm. I'll do this when I get back to the Palace (home :p).

Where would you want a mine constructed?

The workers began their long journey to Apollonia, where they would begin tilling the soil to establish the first farmland of Apollonia. It would take them six years to traverse the desert, plains and forests.

Another working gang near Si Satchanalai became available, shall I order them to travel to Apollonia, to construct a mine?

The train of charior archers near Apollonia, refreshed and recovered from their skirmish with barbarians were ready to receive new orders. I recalled them to the kingdom, where they will await further orders.

    Spoiler Chariots near Apollonia :

The work boats were deployed to the nearby crabbing waters, where they deployed nets. Instead of growing in seven years, Apollonia will grow in five years' time.

    Spoiler Apollonian boats :

The train of chariot archers stationed near Islandia are waiting orders. What do you propose?

    Spoiler Chariots near Islandia :

The emissaries for the Dutch Protestant Order returned, wanting to renegotiate terms for the trade our Delphian cotton. They proposed paying 6 gold per turn for our cotton.

    Spoiler Dutch deal :

Chief Minister, what say you? Is this in your view a fair arrangement?

6 gold sounds good, anyone has anything against it? Also, does he have any happiness resources available for trade?

As for warriors, I'd like to station them where we could avoid more barbarian camps being spawned. Move them around in the south, see if you can find a good position to station them.

I'd say to send another band of workers to Apollonia to speed things up. Mine should be built in a hill that has nothing if possible (can't check it properly, at work now).

If anyone has any more proposals/ideas, speak up.

The Dutch have only one sugar luxury, and I don't think they would trade it (but I haven't asked).

I think 6 gold per turn for a luxury is a very good offer in a world where most nations have a considerably guarded attitude towards us because of the earlier annihilation of the Siamese state. I would accept.

The AI don't generally trade away their last copy of a luxury, not even the Dutch whose UA is that they keep 50% of the happiness even whey trade away their last copy. It's a shame that the AI doesn't understand that UA.

If it turns out 6 is the old deal that they do not want to continue, what's the lowest we would accept? Or would you prefer I explore other options, such as access to their territory for our forces?

You are correct, Chief Minister. Reducing the asking price by 1 gold per turn sealed the deal with the Dutch.

Our friendship with the Kingdom of Zurich ends. Our people are not happy about this news at all (happiness drops from +5 :) to +2 :)).

In other international news, the County of Zanzibar is no longer a vassal of Polish Catholic Order, but is instead now a protectorate of the Shoshone Republic.

Domestically, the people of Kirrha are happy with the acquisition of crabs at Apollonia.

And Hellenism has spread to Muang Saluang.

    Spoiler Muang Saluang Hellenism :

A workshop (I think it was) has been completed at Delphi Nova. The city is now producing a colosseum, which will take two years to complete. This has resulted in widespread happiness in the city.

A water mill has been completed at Kirrha. The city is now producing a workshop, which will take five years to complete. This has made a number of neighbourhoods happy.

Our chariot archers have moved into positions to keep barbarian threats at bay.

    163

I have some important matters for you, Chief Minister.

Our scholars have finished developing an explosive black powder. As directed, our scholars are investigating the ways of Drama and Poetry. This is expected to take three years to complete. Did you intend for them to continue on to Philosophy after that? One neighbourhood was extremely happy with the pursuit of Drama and Poetry, as it was their primary concern.

    Spoiler Gunpowder :

Our cultural experts advise we have entered a new era of rebirth (Renaissance). They also report the Despotate of China has also attained these same developments.

    Spoiler Renaissance :

Also, as China has discovered every other civilisation a great World Congress has been convened in Beijing. What proposal should we make to the First Council of Beijing?

    Spoiler World Congress :

We have also received our kingdom's first spy. What orders do you have for them?

Four worker gangs have become available. This is in addition to the two already bound for Apollonia. Would you like some of them to be sent to Apollonia too, or are there other works you would prefer for them to embark upon?

What would you like Delphi Nova and Kirrha to work on once their current projects are completed?

(Here is the save file for your reference. Note that I've 'skipped' the workers, but will go back and give them orders once you advise me of what actions they should take)

In the world congress, and in my view, we either push arts funding, or a world fair. But I'd like to get some feedback from the players on this.

Do we know who's the technological leader? I think we could try to steal some technologies from him.

I'll look into Khirra and Delphi after.

In compliance with Delphi's new focus on culture I believe we should push for arts funding at the World Congress. That way we will be able to train writers, artists, and musicians faster as soon as their proper guilds are established.

Thank you for your opinion Leonidas, I think that both will suit our needs, and they will give us some much needed good will from other nations.

As for the cities' production, I'd like to produce workboat > market on Khirra and Delphi could get a Caravansary; there, we could focus our trade routes.

As for Apollonia, I'd say we need to pull some workers to build 2 mines and 2 farms close to the city.
    Does anyone object this plan?

Leonidas is going to be absent for the rest of the week, and I think Aplistios has some personal matters he is currently attending to.

That leaves no one to object to your proposal, not that you actually need anyone's approval (yes, I know it fits your consultative style, but it's hard to do when there's no-one left to consult with!).

If this is your formal advice to me, let it be known.

We proposed Arts Funding to be considered at the first World Congress, to be held in the Despotate of China in thirty years.

As far as our spies go, the advice was to send them to whichever civilisation was the most technologically advanced ((this is also where I discovered for the first time that in the Trade Route Overview screen you can see how we compare technologically with the other civs at any rate)).

    Spoiler Trade Route Overview :

As the Despotate of China is the most technologically advanced nation to the best of our knowledge, our spies sought to infiltrate the Chinese capital city of Beijing.

A great host of working parties flooded from the kingdom in the direction of Apollonia, which shall receive them in a few years' time.

    164

    Muang Saluang has grown.

    Spoiler Muang Saluang :

The colosseum of Delphi Nova is completed. The citizens there are happy :)) up to 5 now). Works commenced on a caravansary, which is scheduled for completion in four years. This has made a number of the money-minded neighbourhoods happy.

The lighthouse of Dostana is completed. Surplus food flows into the city. Works commenced on a colosseum, which is scheduled for completion in four years. This has made a number of working-class and upper-class neighbourhoods happy.

    165

My scouts have travelled up past the Catholic Bishopric of Brussels and is proping the borders of the Polish Catholic Order near the city of Lodz.

    Spoiler Northern scouts :

    166

Our scholars report that the secrets of Drama and Poetry have been mastered.

    Spoiler Drama and Poetry :

Our scouts have reached as far north as they can.

    Spoiler Northern scouts :

Apollonia has grown. It is expected to grow again in eight years' time. The lighthouse schedule has sped up: completion is due in fifty-seven years.

    Spoiler Apollonia :

Chief Minister, I bring the following matters to your attention:

Was Philosophy our next research topic?

Where would you like our northern scouts to go? They have reached as far north as is possible for their boats, and they cannot travel inland without breaching Polish sovereignty.

Also, several working parties within the kingdom will be may be ready soon. What would you like them to prioritise? Is it time to extend the Meldanian Highway to Apollonia? Or did you have specific projects already in mind for them?

While the forums were offline I contacted the Chief Minister directly, and he advised me to do the following:
    • Research Philosophy
    • Move the northern scouts south to investigate all the coastlines, especially those near or borders. To move through China, or around.
    • Any excess workers not en route to Apollonia are to improve the production of the Siamese cities.
    • Growth is to be kept to a minimum, as our happiness is worrisome.

    166

Our learned masters have turned their thoughts to studies of Philosophy. This has made priestly neighbourhoods happy.

    167

The County of Almaty briefly became a protectorate of the Shoshone Republic, but some politics behind the scenes have resulted in them quickly switching allegiance to now be a puppet of the Despotate of China.

Our influence with the County of Almaty has nearly decayed to the point where we will soon no longer be friends. Despite, this, they gifted us a marvellous weapon of war: a trebuchet!

    Spoiler Trebuchet :

Also, the Kingdom of Quebec has now become a Chinese puppet.

Domestically, the city of Kirrha has completed its workshop. As advised, they have turned their attention to building work boats which will be ready in two years' time.

Our northern scouts began their southward journey. Nothing noteworthy to report as yet.

    168

Hordes of workers swarm about the forests surrounding the fledgling town of Apollonia. Many trees are being felled to construct hill mines and convert grasslands to farmlands. The lighthouse will be built in a much shorter time period than the half a century the local authorities had expected.

The creation of so many local jobs has made the working class neighbourhood very pleased, and the creation of dedicated farmland has the support of the local farmers, too.

    Spoiler Apollonian works :

Delphi Nova has completed a caravansary.

Chief Minister, what do you advise I instruct the administrators of the capital to turn their attention to next?

    Spoiler Delphi Novan options :

The powers of Philosophy could be at hand as soon as next year. What should we turn our thinkers' minds to afterward?

    Spoiler Research tree :

Do we want to improve relations with the County of Almaty? They have given us such wondrous weapons of war.

What do you advise, Chief Minister?
