Also, I accidentally gave Gurra one too many hints, so I'll increase the number of hints everyone else gets by one as well (which means Bazil gets a hint! :D).

Yeah, the pre-campaign prediction was pretty brutal. But bear in mind that promises candidates make can not only gain support but also lose it, depending on what they're promising and who the audience is. ;)

How brutal are we talking about?

Did you see the pre-campaign opinion polling?

On those figures this would be the outcome if an election were held without any campaigning.

Of course, those figures are of limited value, and only really give a snapshot, because each candidate will pick a home neighbourhood which will give themselves a boost, and also the promises made during the campaign will make big differences.

Also, much thanks go to the moderator Pouakai for renaming the thread from "The Tribal Elders of . . . *insert name here". :D

Never thought you'd find those brutal. Those seem standard pre-campaign :p

Ah, I see. It's brutal compared to your popularity during the term. :)

. . . which it now occurs to me no-one else could see, it being in my spreadsheet. :p

    Nothing to see here!

Which means I'm now way less popular just because of guilds? Damn... Well, at least I'm not gonna be chosen again lol :p

The election campaign is now in its second half.

Can anyone else tell me which neighbourhoods they want to be their home ones?

Also, once the countdown timer hits zero the neighbourhoods will not pay attention to any further claims made after that point (i.e. no extensions will be granted).

Dostana's Loquia for me now. I'll look at the game later and propose some things.

    Noted.

I'm looking forward to seeing how your campaigning influences the neighbourhoods. :)

Leonidas's campaigning has had very interesting results.

In addition to the goals I have already set up to achieve if elected, I wish to see a mine built on the hill north-east of Delphi Nova which will soon be part of our kingdom. And I pledge to not only build new farms outside Dostana but also resume construction on at least two of the three unfinished and abandoned farms outside Delphi Nova, Kirrha, and Sukhothai - the time and resources that went into their partial construction will be wasted if we don't finish what has been started.

We should also give a pledge of protection to the three city-states within Delphi's sphere of influence - Milan, Zurich, and Quebec City - to ensure their, and by extension our own, continued safety.

All the above has been duly noted by the neighbourhoods.

Aplistios, which home neighbourhood did you want?

You can choose from (note that these attitudes are from before campaigning started, and don't necessarily reflect the changes in attitude that have taken place during the campaign):

Aplistios returns to Delphi Nova to give a speech in his home neighborhood of Telos.

“People of Delphi, some would say that our golden age is past. Worse still some would actually believe it! They would say that we must labor, struggle and trade with our neighbors. That we must hope for them to forgive our conquests, that we must seek their esteem, that we must beg for their trade.

I, like you, am not one of those people! I, like you, am proud of my heritage and my nation and like you I am tired of apologizing for our greatness. Tired of apologizing for our strength, tired of pretending we have not discovered gunpowder.

I look to our Chinese neighbors. I see lands full of cattle, I see seas full of fish, I see sugar and truffles they refuse to trade. And then I see a pair of pikemen and little else.

Citizens of Delphi, our path is clear. If you have the courage to acknowledge it then elect me as your Basileus and I will give you lands full of cattle, seas full of fish, sugar, truffles, The Colossus, The Great Library and more.”

I haven't loaded up Civ yet, but were you promising The Great Library as a wonder to build or one to acquire through conquest of the Despotate of China? I will check it later, but wondered if you could confirm now. ;)

Also, I'm Basileus. :O I think you mean Chief Minister. :)

And Aplistios has become quite warlike in his old age; he used to be all for trade and peace. ;)

The neighbourhoods will duly note all the above.

And without giving away any results, I will say that of the neighbourhoods that vote (Aristocratic and Priestly ones) there are presently no ties; they have clear winners whoever they might be. Lines are clearly being drawn in the sand, and the neighbourhoods are noticing!

Kirillos: if you're going to campaign, you have twenty-five hours to do so! :)

Leonidas is currently in Delphi Nova, where he heard of the other Synedrion candidate Aplistios' speech and the promises he made, and in response holds a speech himself.

"Delphians, I know many of you look back at the days of conquest with nostalgia but I for one know war more than most people. I grew up in Sukhothai during the war that merged the kingdoms of Delphi and Siam while killing thousands, and now I serve in the Delphian Army myself. I know Aplistios' promises may sound tempting but the lands that are already our own - the lands of Delphi and of Siam - are lacking many things, as this kingdom in the past has focused all its resources on military technology and armament, while neglecting philosophy and domestic development.

If we keep going for what others have instead of improving what we already have, by building infrastructure in our cities and research new knowledge, we will sooner or later be overrun by other peoples gathering enough resources to surpass us in military technology. According to our wise thinkers Delphi is the least technologically advanced country in this entire world and we must take this as a serious warning and do something about it very soon, because otherwise our path to victory may become a path to our own destruction.

I am a man of the military, and I can say that this man Aplistios has not thought of the greater scheme of a military invasion - only of the bonuses conquest would bring home to his table. We must recognise when military action is important for the greater good, and when it will only backfire. Delphi is a great kingdom, yes, but sometimes the wisest move is to wait and grow even stronger."

The Great Library is in China...for the time being ;)

Haha, of course you are Basileus. Silly me what could I have been thinking :mischief:

Oh no! Aplistios's recent warlike turn is merely the first step! Someone warn the Basileus! :p
