The Very Many Questions-Not-Worth-Their-Own-Thread Thread XXXII

Personal question: I am invited to see a well-known DJ (with VIP tickets) in Tel Aviv. Now I'm not into his music, or partying or dancing in general, but I already have far too little of a social life. Even so, it does feel a little dishonest to have my friend use her ticket on someone who doesn't even appreciate the music. And I'm horrible at dancing (don't think I have ever done it, in fact).

Any advice?
Decline politely. I stress politely. It's important to convey that you appreciate the invitation, but (choose any reasonable explanation for not going) and that you feel that someone else might appreciate such an invitation.

Have you explained any of this to your friend in a tactful manner?

Some of it. She straight up told me that I should be into the music... but I assume she thinks that's the only motivation I would have.

Why? I really want to go, perhaps I didn't convey that strongly.

You very much made it sound as if you didn't want to go.

Well if it's all about the music, then no. But I assume there's more to it than that (friends, food, substances I can't mention on CFC).

Would such an event be focused solely on the music?

If you have VIP tickets, I would imagine not, but have you tried asking your friend what this would entail? CFC is amazing and all, but we're not the weavers of reality. :)

Its an opportunity to be social. You should go. Thank your friend

We're not?

After all this time...

You disparage the music, but if you have VIP tickets the music is not your main concern.

Okay, I sit corrected. You did make it sound like you were asking for advice on how to get out of it because you're not into that kind of music. I can relate to that, since I'm fairly picky about what kinds of musical events I'd go to.

If you want to go for the company but don't like the music, I guess you could invest in earplugs (good idea anyway, to preserve your hearing). If you've never danced, it's worth trying since you might find you enjoy it. Modern dancing isn't like the kind I grew up with where there are correct steps and incorrect steps.

Okay then... I'll try it out.

What does VIP give you?

Do you guys like bananas? Why are bananas so popular? Every day at work I see someone eating a banana either as a snack, a desk breakfast or a lunch addition. I don't get it, I think bananas suck. Is it simply because they are extremely inexpensive and still pretty filling? Is it cus they are easy to eat? Depending on the season apples might get as cheap as $1 a pound, but bananas are still under 50 cents a pound all the time.

I mean I like banana bread and some other baked goods cus they don't really taste like banana, but everything else banana sucks. Who likes banana flavor? It's gross, I mean how many people actually opt for banana flavor candy like taffy/airheads over something like cherry or strawberry? Or banana flavored liquor over some other fruit flavor?

I will say one thing, banana chips are decent and pair well with peanut butter. But that's it. Every other banana flavor I can do without.

Bananas are alright. Whenever someone gets into a snit that I'm not eating fruit, I usually opt for a banana. Easier, cheap, it's whatevs.

Whenever I've taken cipro in the past, it's always been banana-flavoured. Pretty good stuff.

When I was growing up in Poland kids in my class ate banana flavoured glue just so they could taste some banana. You couldn't buy actual bananas in the stores, it just wasn't sold anywhere.

So excuse me but bananas taste amazing. And are super cheap for some reason

Ever heard of a banana republic? I mean that's essentially why. Giant corporations exploited the governments and labor in south america to setup huge plantations of bananas. There's a huge supply of them due to the supply chains setup around the end of the 19th century. On top of that banana trees have a very high yield and they transport easily/have a long shelf life. Notice how green bananas ripen even after cut from the plant. Tomatoes don't do that, they have to vine ripen, so do peppers and many other fruits. So you have less time from when they are ripe to when they have to be eaten.

Bananas and peanut butter is one combination I'm not into. At all.

Bananas and brown sugar is a wonderful mix. Right now I have several bottles of banana-flavored milk in my fridge.

I've found that banana taste/texture varies widely. Personally, I love a certain tiny range and despise anything outside it. You might also want to try non-Cavendish bananas.

Yeah, texture matters. My dad would take the mushy ones and use them to make banana bran muffins (some of which I would include when I went to the craft fairs and sell on commission for him).

By themselves, mushy bananas are disgusting.

99% of people who go to such events have no idea how to dance. Don't worry about it

As far as I know there is no such thing as a definitive "how to dance." You do what you do and I do what I do. I guess if it's like a ballroom dance contest or something there would be somewhat stringent guidelines...

Bananas taste good, but not when over-ripe. They are quick to eat, nobody refrigerates them (I have sensitive teeth, and cold fruit isn't fun to eat), they have a thick protective peel, and they aren't messy (like the far more delicious fresh peach).
