I was editting the unit list (Unit List), and I was wondering if I should just go ahead and add curraghs and galleys as the base ships for all the civilizations (except for Aiel of course)? Certain civs like the Sea Folk and the Seanchan should of course have their own special ships beyond these.

Also, it'd wouldn't be that difficult to add a lightning attack (like Attack B of the Asha'man unit) to ships, and I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on that for Seanchan ships (representing damane).

I think the lightning attacks from ships would be perfect for the Seanchan ships.

As for other civs, I think maybe in the last age there could be a ship they could get that would allow ocean and sea travel, but it doesn't have to be real big. The same for the Sea Folk who could have sea travel earlier. That way if your playing Andor you can turn the table on Seanchan and invade them eventually.

EDIT: As far as units go, I have a shadow swordsman that could be uploaded and could be used for the Grey Men. Let me know if your interested. I'm not even sure where I got it from. I'll post a preview in a minute.

Here's one of the civilopedia.

Here's a glimpse of the storyboard that shows what it really looks like.

Good idea TJ, I had forgotten about that unit. I might see if I could do something similar with the "Spy" unit from C3C. I think the visuals of the spy might match up just a bit better, and it'll give it a "knife from the shadows" type feel instead of a swinging sword. I'm in the middle of working on my next major project right now, so I might put it off for just a bit, but it shouldn't take long.
-----
EDIT: I had some time this afternoon, and I converted all the flics (only took about 20 minutes :) ). I'll probably post the unit this evening.
-----

Also, I've been trying to think of regular (non UU) units to add to the unit lines for each civ, and here's another idea I came up with:

- a militia unit for all Randland civs minus the Borderlands.
Cuchulainn
(Kinboat's Cuchulainn unit... I love this unit btw)

- and a separate militia unit for the Borderlands.
Otomo Swordsman
(Kinboat's Otomo Swordsman... more of a martial arts type unit)

Thoughts? :)

I've now posted the Gray Man unit in the Unit Graphics Forum. Not that big a deal, just a palette conversion of the C3C Spy unit, but hey it works. :)

Hope you like it.
Here's a link:
Wheel of Time Unit: Gray Man

p.s. thanks for the idea TJ :D

Your welcome. I think your choices for militia are great. The Borderlands should have different militia than the rest as well as the Aeil, Sea Folk, and Seanchan of course. And Shara if you include them.

I think that there should be at least one late era Sea Folk ship with the lighting attack. There are some windfinders that have the power. Surely, a few, who have escaped, learned the weaves... Could be a unit provided by a small wonder or just really expensive.....

Good idea? Bad idea?

Good idea and produced by a small wonder. I like that, so it's a bit of a bonus ship.

OK, so when we decide on the ships we're going to use for the Seanchan and Atha'an Miere, I'll add lightning attacks to their repertoire.

Now 2 more questions:
1.) Is there an archer unit out there that would be good as a standard unit for Randland civs? So far Andor has Two Rivers' Bowmen (vanilla Civ3's Longbowmen) as a unique unit, but I don't think Andor should be the only nation that has archers in their army.

2.) Should the Knight unit from vanilla Civ3 be available as a standard unit to all the Randland civs? As of now they are set up as a UU for Tear since they were known for their horses and their steel (also their olive oil, but that's irrelevant here ;) ). We could use them as a standard unit, and I could search for another special unit for a Tairen Knight, or even drop the idea of a Tairen Knight alltogether.

:hmm: don't remember anything about crossbows, but it has been a little while since I've poured through the materials. If there is mention of them somewhere, awesome, that means another unit for the Borderlands. Let me know if you find it. I'll try and do a search myself. Is there a good crossbow unit that we could use if it is correct?

In the meantime I thought this could work as an archer unit for the boderlands. It matches up pretty well with some of the other units already assigned to them. Agree/disagree?

Ok, I was redoing the Unit List... again. I've restructured the (mounted) knight system, so that all the Randland civs have the ability to produce the standard knight, unless they have a specialized unit that would replace the knight. If you haven't checked the post lately, feel free to do so. It's actually starting to take a little shape. :) Now I'd like to give it a little more. ;) And that's where all of you experts out there come in handy.

Here's the plan. I'd like to assign specialized knight units to as many of the Randland civs as possible so as to separate them a little bit more visually, besides just their unique units. Bebro has created a couple of knight packs that could help out greatly in this area. What I'd like, is your imput if you think any of them would be especially good for a certain civilization. I'm attaching a picture with all of Bebro's knights. I've gone ahead and numbered them too. So play the matching game with #'s and civs if you think they'd work. (i.e. knights 2 & 5 both have lion emblems and could be possible units for Andor) Stuff like that. So please, offer up suggestions. :D

Thanks!

I did a search on the word "crossbow" in my pdf Wheel of Time collection to save me the time of searching through all my books, and I found that crossbows were used by just about everyone... even the Seanchan. So that is another unit to add to the list. I also ran through the units forum to find any crossbowman units, and I came up with this conversion from Aluminum.

A couple other suggestions while I'm on:
Queen's Guard for Andor: Huscarl by Aluminum
HuscarlRun_Preview.gif

Randland civilizations' generic archer unit: Longbowmen by Aluminum
Alu__AoK_Longbowman_v1.00_Preview.gif

There's a whole list of units, a lot of them could be used as suitable knight replacements. Check it out if you got a minute. The New AoK conversion collection :)

I love your ideas. Plenty of flavor will make the civs more unique. More so than just a few UU's.

Sounds perfect to me. I always thought of the Seanchan as an asian flavor.
