The Young Apprentice of World Conquerors

CB - reread #41 thru #47, there's some feedback there

Zx - Mentioned BUG to CB and provided a link. BW was his 3rd tech. Mainly for chopping at this point, since Tim won't be great for whipping. Other cities will.

Not giving advice on his current game because I CBF to play that start.:lol: Just trying to give him general advice. But yea whipping in a plains cow capital is hard. :p

I played 15 turns instead of ten. Here is what happened: IW finished, and Iron was near Timbuktu. My workers mined and routed it. I settled my blocking city, as well as giving City #2 a monument task. Saladin asked for Open Borders; I said NO. I researched Hunting & Archery. City #2 starved and Mecca GAVE all it's food to it.

CB - Hunting and Archery are not good right now, especially archery. I rarely tech archery below Deity level. It's just a waste unless absolutely necessary. If you are unsure about what to tech, please stop and ask.

Don't I need Skirmishers (I might be confusing with another civ, but...)

@CB

it seems to me you're making progress and that is good thing.

Djenne is too unimproved, non of the tiles you work there is improved - that is something you should fix first! the FP should be farmed, one of the hills mined, Sugar is complicated matter (for start I would probably just cottage it)

you are spiritual you should be in Slavery already... that way you can at size 2 whip the monument

Vikings are in war mode, which could be eventually dangerous (the target could be you).

the look at Iron in capital's BFC makes me grin a little bit inside

More workers!!! 2 for 3 cities with the jungle around is subpar. I agree with the suggested 7 workers now.

The land to east is attractive but under jungle, I would probably first clear the Viking threat. it is late for classic rush, but be it on noble I think you can build some small stack of sword+axe+1-2 spear if you realy focus on it.

Okay, CB....let's stop for a moment. I feel we are getting to a point again in which you are losing focus on a not fully gaining from the advice we are given.

You should already be in Slavery. I recommended that you whip that monument immediately at size 2.

Also, you need more workers. As you build settlers try to get workers in between. You need a lot. Several people mentioned getting one of those workers back to Tim to chop out a worker or two.

I've stated many many times that FOOD is the key to the game. Yet you have two workers sitting on a plains hill for what I assume is to build a mine. FARMS FIRST. I wondering what this workers have been doing all this time.

And don't double up workers at this point. One of the keys to getting better is worker management. Keep at least 1 worker on a city to improve until it is sufficiently improved.

Masonry - Do you know why you are teching this? Let's slow down and discuss the techs. Let's ask why we are teching something, what we need now and where we are trying to get to.

Don't I need Skirmishers (I might be confusing with another civ, but...)

They aren't needed. UUs are just there as something extra, you can build Axes and swords which are good enough. Jeez you weren't in slavery after my long post about how amazing it is! Where are your workers?!@??! 1 worker for 3 cities??!@? That's the complete opposite of what you want. You need to get your second city pumping them asap. Farm the good tiles then cottage them later, and whip out workers and settlers.

I have to leave, I'll come and check back later. Oh also stop researching Masonry get Alphabet and trade for it if you feel you need it.

Oh...I would have opened borders with Sal for the religion spread and trade routes. I generally open borders with everyone unless I'm trying to prevent them from doing something or have them targeted. And even if I target them, open borders are good to scout their land before.

People, slow down. He is only twelve. There are a lot of people who are a lot older who don't follow instructions better than he does and he is playing on Noble. Teching archery won't lose him the game.

@Creatureboy
Don't play more than 10 turns. The first 100 turns can make or break your game. If you make more turns you won't get the input before making your decisions and people will find more mistakes.

Now, regarding archery: Archers have one decisive disadvantage compared to the other unts you can build: You can't really attack with them. Also, archery is a dead end. You don't open up any new techs you can research and it won't show you any resources to help you decide where to put your cities.
So what you are trying to do in the beginning of the game is to try and get better units which can be used to attack: Axemen, Swordmen, Chariots or Horsearchers. You research AH and BW. If you haven't found any resources near you, research IW. If you still have no resources, you can think about teching archery. If you have copper or iron you can leave archery and trade for it later.
