They're All Barbarians.

10 turn peace for alphabet and IW looks quite tempting given that Qin is no longer a major threat.

As stated previously I'd like to use GM to bulb MC, it might even be worth having a run at Colossus, it would definitely be nice to have forges (25% prod and +2 happy) and even triremes might play a role against the Pirates of the South Pacific.

Btw: nicely done :) (even if nocho did all the hard work setting it up for you).

(and tx nocho!) :)
Oh yes, those were giants' shoulders you were standing on. :D:lol:

We haven't quite wrapped this up yet though, so let's see how it goes from here. Fine too with mc bulb and extorting some techs.

Funny btw Qin declared on us. Talk about convenient timing there! :)

I was surprised to see a barbarian leading our glorious armies . Who's this Arminius?

I seem to be using  a lot in this thread!

Is pholkhero posting that he's available tomorrow or next Saturday?

@Pigswill: rename him as Attila :D (was it within the variant rules at least? )

edit: speaking of him: I put him the promotion that grants an additional movement point, so DON'T USE "GOTO ORDERS" with the stack otherwise he risks ending the turn alone, one tile ahead of the stack (if there is an attackable unit two tiles away from the stack, it will happen) :goodjob:

he's posting that he can play tomorrow, not next saturday. most *likely*, turns tomorrow and set on sunday. i've got to unpack and stuff, so will play civ to unwind a bit.

Awaiting a cunning plan with bated breath. I do like the idea of Colossus in Kyoto, Palace in Nara which could long term become a production capital under bureaucracy. In the short term our economy is struggling a bit but maybe we need to polish off China first. Short phony peace should allow us to regroup armies, appoint a Japanese general and get settlers in place to replace chinese barbarian cities.

In the short term our economy is struggling a bit

Building wealth in the cities which have the usefull infra (gra/rax/lib) should do the trick waiting for the happiness ressources (with vertical growth we will be fine) provided by the next techs. We don't need many more troops to finish the chinese. A couple of archers to put in the new settlements and maybe a couple of cats to replace the occasional lose.

not unwinding but needed more time than i thought to unpack my life into one room ~ a sad state of affairs, indeed.

but, in better news:

this is us taking peace for abcs and iw

this is me whipping a city for a settler

the pic of me settling it didn't come out, but it was i NE of the west "city?" sign, leaving room if we still wanted to put another city on the coast there (tho i see no need for it)

we met some new people

i only played 8 turns as I didn't post a plan beforehand and I didn't want so screw up too badly. we need calendar, and it should be done in about 4 or 5 turns now. I also don't know why my pics are all thumbnails, but imagine i'll figure it out :/

we're ready to finish off china as soon as the treaty ends, with the bulk of our forces still int he north, but a small bit in the south for any attack and/or pushing in there and threatening them a bit..w/got two cats and and extra axe or two there, so...

I don't know imageshack much, but instead of having a link to a file "screenshot.th.jpg" change it to "screenshot.jpg" by removing "th." and it seems to be working fine.

Will try to look at the save later to see the grand results of your quality moves. :)

We're 3 or 4 turns from calendar which is nice, ready to declare on Qin in a couple of turns which is also nice. I'm not totally sure about location of new city, gets dye but misses out a couple of grassland hills but I'm sure it'll become a worthy addition to our fledgling empire.

Bit concerned about the barb galley in our homeland waters, maybe whip a trireme and replacement WB before completing LH.

Once we're polished off the chinese barbarians we'll probably recruit a few workers to help improve our calendar resources.

Once we raze Guangzhou I'm wondering about putting a city 2E of it which captures iron, pigs, wheat and several hills for a good production centre. If we don't settle around there then GK certainly will.

It really is heading towards Move the Palace time.

I'd still like us to have a go at Colossus, maybe in Kyoto. the forge is useful in itself and Colossus would certainly help support island expansion.

Ok, I looked at the save and we are really gearing for war, it looks... but I'll not start it without a settler to get the manchurian lands . I think it is advisable to not mess with the Chinese cities on the SE Asia for now, though ... the area needs jungle cleanup :D

In fact I'm not sure of this being the right time for war, with so much infra to do :( I also agree that it is time to think on moving the palace to the mainland ). Like I said above, the 2 cities they have down there could wait for China to clean up jungle and we are not in conditions to digest Manchuria IMHO ...

Tech wise, after Calendar, definitely CoL, right ?

I'll try to play today, barring some unforeseen event of discussion raging around here.

It's a fair point that our economy can't cope with much more expansion atm. Moving palace to mainland will help a bit, growing cities so we get more unit support would help a bit as well. Improving calendar resources will definitely be a boost.

If we can't afford more cities for now then that's an argument for letting the chinese barbarians live a bit longer, otherwise the indian barbarians will have a free run in south east asia.
We have a settler lurking around, maybe build a city on RRR's southern wooded island, it gets us up to 4 oversea cities for four oversea trade routes. Alternatively I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't more islands to the south, some with good resources too, so we could explore a bit before settling.
I've already mentioned Colossus (more than once).

I wouldn't be totally surprised if GK didn't go to war, maybe with Qin, maybe with us, so keep most of the army up north.

CoL definitely sounds good. We should do everything within our reach to maintain an as healthy an economy as resonably possible, especially given the no-trading restriction. So moving palace asap is good too.
