They're All Barbarians.

Ok, i decided against starting the war in my set and devoted it to get some substance to our economy, that was relying heavily in little pop cities building wealth ... made some MM, changed some queues ( it had to be done, especially to get a trirreme to the north )...

BTW it looks like the barbarians from the west have some really arrogant leaders ...

Speaking of the western barbarians, some of our people got infected with the barbarian habit of worshiping something immaterial ... in htis case they adopted the same ways of a lot of westerners. In spite of the official stance of the governement being of tolerance to all faiths at the moment, it actually means that all the faiths will be treated equally bad :p

We got calendar, CoL queued as discussed:

As we were not going to use the settler inherited by the previous player in manchuria, I decided to use my supernatural powers to discover a nice place in the south to colonize ( read: I know this map enough for this :D )

Notice the 8 g from trade routes vs 4,4ishs of maintenance

Anyway, in the last turn of the set, i got news that the chinese got a new city. i was even happy with that until I seen where it was :

It is me or the chinese have painted yet another "Kill me sign" in their backs ?

Anyway, to end, here is the tech screen ( notice that we met Alex in this set ):

On stuff to take care:

We need more workers :p We need atleast one to the starting island to improve the dyes there and to move some to the newly founded city to clear all that jungle out.

IMHO it is time to war China. Their garrison in hteir caps is exactly the same as in the beginning of the set and the new city will have little defense. The sourthern cities ... dunno , could be kept in there for a while.

In terms of religion: should we adopt hindu? There is a lot of hindu people out there ...

Next tech : really dunno. machinery + CS is quite standart though :D

Shame about Colossus, ah well, win some, lose some.

Nice to see Palace is near to finishing.

GK aka brown barbarian has enough on his hands. Who's his target? I'm tempted to leave pink barbarians up north so they line themselves up as his nearest target. Pink barbarians down south may be a better option for us, another coastal city (or two) down south will be less of a drain on our finances and there's some nice resources down there, up north apart from deer and forests its pretty uninspiring.

Tech wise its a bit more tricky. In the longer term mounted units are seriously useful for traversing central asia. In the medium term samurai should be good enough for nearby barbarians so we can build up a decent empire before crushing the world.

As a side issue I'm wondering about building a couple of ninja spies to get a clearer picture of what our neighbours are up to.

Nice to get some feedback from the rest of the team as I have no idea what I'm doing .

Got it.

Our glorious armies are now led by Akechi Mitsuhide.

Most of the field army is heading south.

Plan:
Kyoto: double whip forge, grow building archers/triremes while running 2GS.
Osaka: grow, build wealth until CoL then?
Tokyo: workers
Satsuma: grow, whip palace, maybe archer>ninjas.
Kagoshima: wealth>?
Nara: lib>worker
Nagoya: whip wall>WB
Izuma: whip monument>granary.

Settler heading south to settle somewhere in SE Asia.

I can comment in a couple of hours from now Pigswill. Missed my window yesterday :)

I would use the settler in Korea for manchuria and spit other out of one of the main island cities after ferried by boat.

Kyoto will need a courthouse after the palace is done ( since it will have colonial maintenance ), but yes, units are more important , for the time being.

In general, it is Ok, but we will need more settlers ( atleast more 2 ) to cover for ex-china.

I am globally OK with the plan though I wouldn't whip any of our cities unless we are about to loose one: most have room for 4/5 population. It is better to grow to happy cap then hire the scientists. Only the palace city should be microed to refrain growth since it is overwhipped already.
I would also postpone Nagoya's wall untill the city is threateaned.

Though I would chop all forests adjacent to cities (Nagoya and Nara mainly) if we are concerned by defense.
Also regarding improvements: We need to start or at least leave room for workshops (even if they aren't powerfull for now): I know we can workshop over other improvements but it's lost worker turns. And we will end up short of production if we happily cottage everything. (we cannot rely on whipping too long as we need to research everything on our own, which means big cities and big eco) :)

edit about markets: I personnally build them for happiness only: if you build both science and gold multipliers you aren't efficient. better to build prod and science (or prod and gold) and run at 100% slider ( or 0% slider) building wealth (or science). Markets come into play when you have the luxuries that are doubled (which is not our case). If you aren't doing this, you have built multiplier buildings that are wasted.

Feel free to ignore this if you feel it's too extreme (the edit part I mean )!

edit2: now I see Pigswill already vetoed Tokyo's market: oh well

All Quiet on the Western Front?

Happy Genghis trashing Pigswill! :scan:

edit: do we have monarchy? if not then we should do it before switching into bureaucraty (I see CS being researched) to switch two civics at once instead of one. (limiting anarchy, this is for barbarians ;))

the story continues..... the gloom deepens....
Spoiler :

War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!!

Apart from meditation and pocket change.
Won't need settlers any time soon. Tokyo swops to a spear (and a chance to grow).
Nagoya is threatened by a bunch of flankers who kidnap and murder some workers.

T190. The flanking2 keshiks are dispatched without loss.
Yokohama starts to build a wall (ain't protective trait marvellous :D).

No we don't have monarchy. We don't even have priesthood but at least we've got med to research priesthood (or extort PH and HbR from Monte after some razing and pillaging).

Looks pretty good! Did you see any attack from Genghis? If not, he may have been bribed by Qin.

Am I up?

The brown barbarian launched two pathetic stacks (3keshiks+1chariot then 1 keshik+3chariots). He may have been bribed by Qin but he's had his hands full for a while and us presenting him with a nice long border may have given him an excuse to pick on us. Perhaps our cunning and resourceful ninja spy can sneak ahead to give us some up to date info.

I'm not seeing from where the doom'n gloom is coming for :p We have our army in the northern border and Khan has 0 units on sight ( i agree with nocho, he was bribed ). In fact I'm more worried with the heavy presence of Indian culture in SE Asia than with GK :( ( and with the fact that India is teching feudalism )

As pigswill said, he already attacked with the units in hand , so he should have a garrison unit in the cap and little more ... and maybe a double team of Keshiks for pillaging. IMHO we can hold that with ease while we clean the northern border of pesky chinese.

May I say that we need more workers ? :p

On the other hand GK is more of a danger to us than Qin. Qin's got one naff city up north, he appears to be blocked from SE asia by Asoka (though scouting should confirm that) so the only option that Qin's got left is retreat into Tibet. His cultural residue is annoying (pining for the homeland, barbarians indeed) but that's it.

I'd reckon that we have a go at razing and pillaging karakorum and all points east to slow GK down. Maybe we should be thinking about settling australasia at this point if Asoka'a heading towards LBs.

The doom and gloom was of course trying to create an atmosphere of portent. We're actually doing as well as could be expected (if not slightly better).

The chinese city in the north has to go, period. Otherwise we will surely lose our source of iron in northern Korea ( ok, we will get another in some turns in northern China, but the point stands ) and I think that resolving this has bigger priority than stomping GK ... that will acept to talk peace as soon as he gets out of refuse to talk in some turns , most likely

We should go to India as soon as possible, even if that means axes + cats vs LBs . And to be honest, this is Asoka, for heavens sake ... if he has more than one LB in most cities it will be a very wierd military buildup of him :p ... and we can always get some phants in the way ( if we care to grab >HBR soonish, a thing that might be not a so bad idea ... )

I'll have a stern look this evening and post a plan to be unskillfully executed Monday or Tuesday evening.

funny, i didn't think i was up now? ;) :)

i like the idea of going after india next, but if there's some time btwn that war, knocking genghis down a peg and getting some more xp will be nice.

To be honest, I'm really not a fan of the idea of venturing to Siberia now ... We have much better land to get in India and SE Asia. And if it isn't to get better land, why lose time with it? We will have times that we will have 12 moves/ turn on road units, paratroopers and nukes, and in those times we can clar Siberia neatly ...

Oh and nocho is not as unskillfull as advertised :p
