They're All Barbarians.

Well, I'll do this today after all ...

The set was quite uneventful for a while. In fact the first screen I made was in t4, with Genghis being a ... well, a uncivilized barb

As we do not negotiate with terrorists ( terrorists = everyone not Japanese ), GK will not eat sushi tonight

QSH settled his 4th city

More ruins to make , I guess

Assorted pics of terrorists asking various stuff from us. We obviously do not negotiate with them :D

Other barbarians decided to get some hovels together north of us. We will wait until they prepare the land for our cities.

In the last turn of the set we finally learned to make sums ;) I slotted hunting after it ... because we have a camp to make in Korea. I only noticed the fact that the chinese got with hands full in this IBT after that.

A overview of our empire:

Our cap is ripe for the whip.

I'm pretty sure we are the target of the Chinese buildup. That forces our hand a little , but we were already going to smash pumpkins in China, right ? ;)

Hmmm. Megaupload not living up to its name so far.

These AI (alien intruders) really are demonstrating their vulgar barbarity.

The save was up a hour ago

Anyway, i think the big dicussion here is what to do now tech wise and in terms of buildup for war. Do we get archery and drop some CG II archers in our mainland cities or we forget about it and go axes + cats ?

Finally dowloaded the save, but off to work, some thoughts later.

as an american, i'm prone to preemptive strikes

but really, i think getting some axes built post haste will make up for a lack of archers, esp once we go on the offensive.

then, we can whip at least CGI archers if we need them or in newly-civilized (read: conquered) cities

Its also worth considering that Beijing has horses so we could see a few chariots heading our way, bad news for axes, good news for spears. We are of course Protective, one of the strongest traits when facing invasion, cheap walls yum yum.

Do we swop to military builds asap? Hunting and construction are about 20 turns away but building up a force of grunts to complement them sounds useful.

Nice round Rolo!

With hunting, I would rush construction as we can defend with spears fine. Toku's archers are cool though. But catapults are better. I fear Qin is after us. I would if I was him :D

@Pigswill: build axes waiting for the cats? (maybe prepare a 3 pop whip of settler to overflow into axes somewhere so we can settle the silver rather soon)

Emperor Tokugawa 725bc.

Ended up playing 11 turns.

Hunting>construction as agreed. 8 turns from construction.

An insolent barbarian:

Of course it didn't happen.

Qin's hands may be full but he still sent a settler down south, he's also been showing off various axes and swords (and a chariot) so I guess he's got iron.

A silver rush temporarily depopulated Kyoto:

I'm afraid I interupted some of R_Rolo1's infra builds to knock out some units .

Our island cities have a warrior each.

Our continental colonies each have wall, spear and 2 axes.

Our power rating has gone from pathetic to feeble:

If anyone's actually interested I'll post a turn log of various builds and whips.

Got it!

The plan is to pump more axes, axes and a spear or 2 until we have construction, then follow with cats. Maybe an extra galley will help too for ferrying troops. Only Kagoshima will be busy with infra (apart from the rax under construction in Osaka). Maybe a WB for Satsuma. Maybe an extra worker for frantic chopping of the countryside.

After construction follow up with currency.

Is it worth fitting in archery between construction and currency? Archers would free up spears/axes for front line duties. I'm even wondering if we go for calendar before currency to build up happy caps and instant commerce tiles. Probably not but I thought I'd raise it as an option.

call me foolhardy, but usually when i attack, I leave only a token garrison in cities. correct me if i'm wrong, but the AI will usually go after your stack during an invasion, rather than a city of yours in return

Benefit of archery is you can leave an archer behind as MP unit rather than waste an axe or spear which are better used in attack.

If archery is requested by popular demand, will look to squeeze it in then. Will play this evening.

Captured city? Why waste an archer on a pile of smoking rubble? Newly founded cities are a different matter of course.

i think unless we're bringing settlers w/i still vote to forego archery

Well, IMHO we will have to be prepared to slip cities in the place of the ones we raze ASAP ( the AI gets settler fever when it sees open space ). But that is a concern for later times ...

What concerns me now is that we have two disconnected fronts against the chinese and we can have a nasty surprise in one of them while we put the SoD in the other , and let's be honest, there is nothing better than a bunch of cheap archers to cut that possiblity out.
