They're All Barbarians.

Set played.

Finished construction, archery and have invested a few turns into currency. As planned built mainly military, though no archers yet. :p Tried my best to find the balance between naturally building units and whipping them, as with only 2 happy resources we shouldn't whip our cities into a red faced oblivion either.

I let the partially built library in the cap finish. I'm thinking we should hire 2 scientists here for a GP in 8 turns instead of 31. Either an academy or a settled GM will be welcome. After the buildup, likely Tokyo should permahire some scientists.

Silly micro thing but a road from Kyoto to Osaka will be very convenient for troops movement. Worker just got there.

Anyway, we met some more barbarians we had to tell some untruths to.

Our military is getting somewhere, but we'll need more cats.

Looking good enough to be off to war next set. Might be worth sending an axe wandering south to see if they can sneak past Qin's borders to check out the south. It looks like we're setting up for a two front attack. I'm wondering if we should ferry some units from Tokyo to Satsuma for one major stack and start fighting earlier. Leave a couple of axes and spears in Tokyo to fend off counter attacks.

A couple of scientists in Kyoto is definintely worth considering to spead up our first Great Person, if its a GM I'd prefer to bulb MC rather than settle, GS academy sounds cool.

We also need to consider a settler or two. Tokyo may be our best option for a settler machine but no point having settlers without space to settle them.

Any thoughts about length of turn sets with war coming up and empire (hopefully) expanding.

I was also wondering whether it wouldn't be better to assemble our forces in the marble city and thrust in a NW direction from there. However, if we have faith in our forces, maybe both stacks can converge after each taking a city seperately just after DoW.

Agree with the settlers, we should resettle asap the cities we raze. Tokyo surely is a good place, that also lets it cool down a bit on the whip anger.

i like going in from Satsuma, taking that city to the west there, and then moving north, curving toward tokyo. sort of a "Schlieffen Plan" in reverse

Where is Cripp7? He/she 'got it' two days ago and then nothing.....how mysterious :mischief:.

Let's wait a bit longer, if no sign of Cripp7 in the next 12 hours then its skippy time.

Thanx for letting us know. Hope life settles down soon. Post once you're available and we'll slot you in.

RRRaskolnikov is UP.

Cool I get the war set!

I think it's wiser to go north west from Satsuma as it is likely we will find the only non hill chinese city there. THen take on Beijing. Tech wise, it's unlikely I can do more than currency ( cost 300 gold at full research), but I think we need HR badly after that. Whipping without it is painfull. Calendar is another option though if we have settled enough resources by then. Speaking of which I agree we should whip some settlers once the cats are out.

I keep my finger crossed so Genghis joins the party once it has started (he is willing to be bribed, so he might dogpile on his own once we start the campaign) :D

Will see how I can fit scientists into the mix...

I will tonight if it's OK.

Sounds good. There's likely to be at least one city to the south west as I saw a settling party heading south of Satsuma in my last set. I wouldn't be at all surprised if GK didn't give Qin a kicking once he's down. I'd prefer calendar to monarchy as happy tiles are also commerce tiles, might have to decide what to do about the Japanese Incense.

Expect it for tmr finally, I am a bit exhausted to play a proper set.

Apart from the imo curious placement of Nara (why not coastal?), for which I'm sure you'll have a perfectly valid expert explanation, it looks very satisfying! :goodjob:

valid expert explanation

At least I have an explanation :D :

-> Qin was threatening the spot with a settler two tiles away, and I wanted both pigs and copper in first ring, to deny copper to chinese (cultural fights will be lost till we kill him) and to get production up earlier. There are still plenty of sites to leverage the GLH (I put some signs as suggestions in the save).

Furthermore, the site will be a production powerhouse down the road (... honneslty all tiles can be settled in south east asia :D Land is so good that dot map isn't too much strategically decisive - trying to explain that we don't care  shame on me -)

edit: and it's prolly the most defendable site in the area :scan:

In order to cut the production time, here is an illustrated story:

We really need to do calendar and monarchy right now to grow our cities. I tryed not to whip too much hiring some specialists here and there. Most cities have still one or two unhappy faces due to slavery still (but the soldiers produced make us proud ;)). Eps are set on Ashoka to steal some techs down the road. There is one last city up north and at least two other chinese cities around indochina. We should resettle the site north with one of the two incoming settlers so Genghis doesn't take it: it is on hill so i'd rather have it and defend.
There is a GM ready to be used. We can maybe wait and bulb CS or start a GA at some point as I guess trading missions aren't allowed.
Also we need to discuss about where to start the new palace as we need it asap. Nara looks OK (with soon the HE?) imo. production and close of our future conquests.

Cheers,
Ras

i see the save, but as I'm moving tomorrow, i probably won't have time to play until sat, so if rolo wants to take it, he may. otherwise, you'll have to wait.

oh, and...
