Things You Miss Most!

I miss a lot the "population transfer" doable in C3... I had cities high on food specialized in worker builds (2 turn worker factories) that provided a good part of my population.
Now I know that if I build a worker he'll spend half his life fortified cause nothing to do until railroads, and that pisses me off... The worker with 2 turns movement is good, more tasks is OK, but generaly the unit was perfect for population transfer...

I swear by all that is holy that this is a true story:

Last night I'm plugging in new units etc. All I've done is adjust the graphics, NOTHING ELSE.

1st Turn of the game I throw up the world builder, plop in a few units. Sweet, the Ka50 Gunship looks good. What the heck I'll plop it down next that scout right there and wipe him out for fun.

The gunship lost. I'm still shaking my head.

Another thing I miss is being able to build food caravans from a farm town and ship them on a permanant basis to a production city, that'd come in handy these days.

Unlimited Rail Movement! Every time I think of Fast Workers moving 9 tiles along a dirt road and my Mechanized Infantry moving 10 tiles on a Railroad I just put my left hand on my forehead and shake my head. There, I just did it again.

Governemnt forms that someway limit your options, like in Civ I where under republic and democracy you could not start a war because "the senate overruled you", that would be nice to see with the Civics, like under mercantilism you can't exchange resources, for example. or under teocracy you can't make deal with civilizations with a different religion from yours (but you can always ask things, etc. Not for all the civics, but add this to someone could be interesting.

I miss ICS (infinite city sprawl) and the expansion phase of Civ3... now, in Civ4, you can't have a settler factory anymore without your money and production going down the toilet.

I miss roads giving you, or increasing commerce. It only makes sense. And the superhighways improvement. Maybe they just decided that there's so many ways to increase it in the game that they figured it'd be too much to not ignore those two major transportation advancements and the economic impacts they made.

I'm with you guys on the partisans, but I think attacking a city is hard enough in this game. I could spend a century building up the army it takes just to bring down one city, and after the last unit I bring heroically knocks out the last defender, last thing I need is 15 partisans to pop up ready to knock him out.

Planting a new forest? Why this get taken out. It was ridiculous in Civ3 how you could just take 16 workers and instantly create a fully matured forest in one turn, but maybe you could just have a worker plant seeds and 10 turns later, a forest would grow. Doesn't make sense that the only way to build a forest is to wait for one to grow naturally in an undeveloped tile. And then they're cutting the shield count from chops with the new patch. What the hell

I wish you could at least make something out of deserts, mountains, and ice, and tundra that isn't adjacent to a river, like all the other games. I still miss the terraform option too.

Why can't I trade resources for techs anymore. And I don't like the untradeable red techs. If I wanted to give a million gold to a civ for Rocketry, I think they'd at least consider it. And what if I wanted to offer a million gold for the civ that'll give me Scientific Method. Shouldn't I be able to get Biology tossed into the same deal, provided that Scientific Method is also part of it?

Hey, I own all four installments of the Civ series and I'd say #4 is the best one yet, but it just isn't perfect. Some people are going to just going to prefer some of the options from previous games. I think there should be some type of options menu where you can incorporate various concepts from previous games. Kinda like Civ 2 giving you the chance to go with absolute combat (I don't know why one would want to, though...).

I miss the unique building styles for all civs.
European, Classical, Far eastern, Middle eastern, meso-american. And I miss the old fashioned airial combat from Civ 2 :(

i missed the adviors from civs3 especially the science and the military ones. also stragetic resources should be priced higher...instead of coal for pigs or wheat for gold -.-

I miss: A Civ3Edit-style editor

The Partisan, Fanatic, Alpine Troop and Freight units from Civ2

Civ3 style Armies (They went so quick :/)

More than 18 civs per map

and many other things. Although, Civ4 is still a good game. With the things I listed, I wouldn't NEED anything else to make civ4 PERFECT!

There are a few things I've missed and a few things I wished for.

First the missed.
I miss when other civs could be blocked by a warrior standing in the way.
I miss spies stealing tech.
I miss the Civ3 Advisors(Civ 4 substitute SUCKS!) Civ2 had the best :)
I miss Cruise Missles(in Civ3 I rarely used them because by the time I got them I was the last one left on that island or continent) mostly because now I try not to destroy as many people because of the Religion aspect(I can lead them into battle, and then destroy them when our enemies are crushed or converted)
I miss the old tech tree. The new one is great, but I think you should have paper before you have nukes.
I miss the change in how the leaders looked each era.
The Navalbombardment of land, and the cities naval defense.
Actual Trade routes should be neccessary again, I hate the fact my enemy is getting uranium from an island where there is no harbor, or a city completely cut off from them.

What I wish for.
CivilWar If enough people are unhappy, then Civs with more than one leaderhead should be able to split into two nations. (i dont know if it was in the first 2 civs because Civ I just pressed buttons moved troops, civ2 i did the same but kileld everyone off)
Religions should interact with eachother more. And certain civs should have preferred religions.

Edit: oh yeah.. Not to sound evil but.. Ethnic Cleanser Units. Basically, Capture an Enemy city send in an Ethnic cleanser and the city is no longer only 20% yours but now 100%, of course their civ will be angry that you have killed their people. In later years introduce a second unit of this type, to instead of killing them, deport them, and it brings it from 20% to 75%.

And another. Relgion Cleanser. If you wish to rule the world, first thing you need is followers. You control a religion and spread that religion to other countries your already starting your rule, however religions may spread to your country or your allies countrys that you don't want. Send in a religion Cleanser. Basically, it wipes out all NoneState Religion. If your the founder of the Relgion, then you maintain the right to enter any City with your religion be it your own civ and cleanse them.

Also Terrorist. You should be allowed to create terrorist or fund terrorist groups like the barbarians. it'll make the world mad at you, but itll help you.
