I am very interested in talking to you. I am willing to go so far as to show this to my Senator Barak Obama. Mr. Obama was in Kuwait, Iraq, Israel and Palestine in January this year. Originally Mr. Obama was a Muslim, the faith of his father. But when his parents divorced and his mother re-married, he converted to Christianity so I think he understands and empathizes with all faiths.
I believe empathy which means to identifiy with and understand of another's situation, feelings, and motives is the important part of this discussion.

First thank you for jioning us in thread.
for thread what ever you wish and prefer
may be starting a new thread is better because attact others and in persian we say only everybody knows every thing
before answering ur quez may I ask ur Senator was Sunni or Shia?
If u don't answer I can find it in internet I guess
now ur queztion:
[*]Young people versus old people in your country. Is it very different? I've seen footage of a young population that seems less fundamentalist and more concerned about economics. Is this true?
may be young ppl is against old ppl but maybe old ppl against old and young against young.
u better know before Iran's revolution on 1979 relation of Iran and USA is very good. So some ppl in that time is in favour of western values and all of them can't escape from Iran after islamic revolution because they have not enough money or maybe didn't so bad things that cause they lose their life for them, maybe they in favour of western tradition mixed with islamic values and some ppl who be in favour of western values but because of loving Iran remain in Iran and don't escape
so You can old ppl with various favours in Iran
from traditional Isalamic Mollas to free thinking old ppl in favour of western values like freedom and Libralism and even without believing Isalm
they talk not in official meetings but in every where can talk freely places like mountation, private cermonies and if they can use computer even in internet. some of them are in favour of Shah and monarshy but they are between old libral thinking ppl are in minority.
now come to youth ppl: so you can easiely find a various youth from whom in favour of Che Guvara ( I wish I write correct, i mean commonist leader of south america killed some years ago and be friend with Castro) to libral and free thinking ppl to youth fundamentalist (I'm sure never an old ppl do a terror)
IMO confilct between youth and old, exist in every country, maybe you have a child and he or she sometimes do something that you dislike.
But I think you don't mean this confilct.
main Iran's ppl are youth and only 6 percent is above 60s
about beliefs of youth can say that they are in parents beliefs in miniority
like me that my parent are religious then before starting my studings and reading books think relegiously and can say fundamentally
but in university have a master who was in Javidan party before revolution (Javidan party is official party of Iran in Shah's time) he was a high official in that party.
so I read better and study under his teachings. (if university knows that both of we have some problems, he may lose his work and never find a job in government, private sector in Iran is weak and 80 percent of GDP is produced in government owned sector.
