Tie knots and dimples

Which knot do you use, and do you dimple?

But men's clothes are not supposed to look studied and "perfect". The four-in-hand is the best tie-knot because it's not symmetrical. A dimple makes it more pleasant to look at. Perfect symmetry takes everything interesting out of clothes.

But don't take my word for it:

Okay, the first one doesn't look too bad, but the rest are sloppy. The 4-in-hand makes knots too small. Look at the third picture in the spoiler. The knot is so small relative to the collar. Also, bowties are just stupid-looking.

I can't say that I've ever given this that much thought, consider how infrequently I have to wear a tie.

My go to is a dimpled half windsor. It's not trying too hard, it's conservative, it's the perfect size and shape. The 4 in hand is a great knot for certain shirts and outfits. If I'm wearing an oxford, I'd look pretty silly with a windsor. Full windsors require pretty short and wide collars in most cases. They aren't a good look. The pratt is good when done right, but almost everyone I've ever seen do it is a high schooler who doesn't know how to pull the tie tightly and so it looks like the kid fitting awkwardly like the clothes your parents buy for you to "grow in to".

Generally a Windsor. Occasionally a half-Windsor. Rarely a dimple.

That.... that's probably accurate for me.

Is there a reason to choose the Pratt over the Nicky?

They're virtually identical but the latter is self-releasing, better balanced and more flexible (because it allows more leeway in how to wear it without turning out sloppy).

My tie is a mathematical knot. That way it never comes undone.
