TM 01 - The alphabet games - America

OK, no sign of Burglar or SkunkDoctor. Anyone else want to take it? They can hop in when they get back to the boards.

Cool, Burglar sneaks in to claim his spot.

I think we are researching guilds at the moment and wonder where to go afterward. Maybe education? If we trade Sal for Philosophy we are on our way to Liberalism and a free tech. Any thoughts?

Hey guys checking in. I am going to have to be out for this one indefinitely, my computer was fried by my roomate and he conveniently has no $ to get it fixed. Yay. I will lurk where I hae net access though. Good Luck.
Hopefully I'll be back for when we play Monty.

Hey. I am on vacation this easter weekend. so I won't be able to play.
Heard about the patch. What about our current position?
I will install the new patch. Are we able to play on with the new patch ?

Well sheez... is this a hard SG or what?

- Burglar => Out of bussiness for easter weekend
- Mailman => Want to take it now?
- namliaM
- rddc05
- SkunkDoctor => Out of action till Comp is fixed
- SpriteSoda => skip up until 15/4

What up about the patch? to patch or not to patch? Or when to patch?

Err, I kind of already patched. The other SGs I'm playing are all patching, so...I vote for patching and playing on. :)

our new captured city:

Good job mailman, I think we lost about 3 units in that entire can of whoopass we opened on Monty.

I have a few suggestions for the upcoming turnset:

1) We are really losing out by not building the Heroic Epic. I suggest Philly, immediately, perhaps using chops.

2) I think Sal is around -5 annoyed with us. We probably need to set up a defensive force around New York.

3) I take it we will build the shrine with the prophet. Hopefully it will spread quickly to one of our production cities so we can build an Islamic Monastery and start spamming missionaries. We should be sending out the occassional Confucian mish too.

4) City maintenance is hurting us. I understand we are on a war-footing, but we shouldn't lose sight of our research and tech lead. I suggest chopping courthouses immediately in Canterbury, Atlanta and Seattle. In London, we should insert a Courthouse at the top of the queue and whip it. This will cost 3 pop, but 2 are unhappy and the third will grow back in about 2-3 turns.

5) Seattle should be a third production city. I'm not sure why we are building a Confucian Academy there, maybe I am missing the strategy and someone can explain it to me. We need a courthouse, barracks and forge there pronto. 2 or 3 grasslands should get farms so that we can work all those nice hills.

If we build the shrine and get courthouses up in Atlanta, Canterbury, Seattle and London, we should be able to bump up the research and continue pumping units to lay the smack down on Monty.

One more thing: we may want to consider razing newly conquered cities that aren't that great, as the upkeep is going to kill us and/or leave us open to counterattack.

I found this city producing culture instead of anything productive, I switch for the conf academy to make better use of the city.
In retrospect this wasn't the greatest choice especially now that we got a city near it and there is no culture pressure.
It may be best to abandon that build and start something else.

I usually capture cities that I can keep and raze cities that will suffer too strong culture pressure.
The upkeep cost is not a problem right now (we are almost even money on 70% science), we are about to add additional shrine to help with that as well.
We should grab as much land as we can right now.

Hey welcome back Sprite....

- Burglar => Out of bussiness for easter weekend
- Mailman ==> Up and got us in it with monty
- namliaM => Did it to monty
- rddc05 => Up
- SkunkDoctor => Out of action till Comp is fixed
- SpriteSoda => On deck

By the short and curly's, I wasnt able to do much. The front is sorely lacking... But I build us the Heroes Epic in Philly, started london on Versailles and razed a city of monty, which would have been under serious cultural presure from Saladin had I kept it.

One more important thing happened, I denied a request for paper to Saladin. We are not on good terms with our neighbour currently. Expect him to DoW in the next turnset or 2. Maybe we should make peace with Monty and take those 2 cities of of Saladins hands, They are just begging to be taken (tho why they havent flipped yet??
Nasjran and Basra would make very good complements to our empire.

I did manage to take out one Iron mine of monty, but the other one near the south is still operational...

Good job namliam, I had a quick look at the save. I should be able to play tonight.

I'm thinking we should prep for war with Sal immediately but wait about 10-20 turns - unless he attacks first. I think it would be a good idea to swap back to Org. Religion at this point to get some infrastructure up in our new conquests and spam some missionaries.

Anyone have any suggestions or input? What about tech trade advice (I'm terrible at effective tech trading)?

K, here are the main events:

Checked tech screen and realize we lost our tech lead to Sal. Made peace with Monty and switched to serfdom and organized religion. Spent turns mainly improving tiles and building infrastructure, with units continuing from Boston and Philly, got research up to 90% at -4 gold or so. Finally got Confucianism spread to Washington (our capital!!)

We got a Great Prophet in Washington. I recommend we use him to discover a little more than half of printing press once we get Liberalism (Nationalism as free tech of course). The other option would be to add him as a super-priest in New York. After Nationalism we should build Taj Mahal in Washington.

Traded for Philosophy, Engineering and Optics (I knew Divine Right would come in handy), finished up education and now about 5 turns from Liberalism.

London is undergoing tremendous cultural pressure from Nottingham. I suggest we get a unit or two there and maybe pop rush Versailles if we go back to Slavery.

Sal definitely needs to be taken down a peg. The two cities we want have high cultural defense but only a few units. There are two stacks ready to go on those two cities whenever the next player is ready. He canceled our wine/corn deal about 4 turns ago, so he might be thinking of declaring.

Whoever goes next might want to switch back to Theocracy/Slavery and maybe even go to Vassalage if we are going to take down Sal. Seattle is ready to go as a military city. Personally, I would prefer a short/limited war as it tends to erode our tech lead. Currently we have the tech lead again, with Sal's knowledge of Banking the only tech any AI has that we don't. Education is our only tech that Sal doesn't have. We are not in that great a position to handle a counter-attack or a sneak by Monty, but I will leave it up to you warmongers to decide when/how to go to war with Sal.
