TM 01 - The alphabet games - America

NY = low-ish shields now, cause it is low pop. Put a farm, watch it grow and work them hills with that bronze and stone.... Ouch...

Aha! I think we have a gap in communication. You must be thinking of Boston, with Hills/Iron/Stone. New York is not suited to ramping up hammers, for sure.

As for building The GL in Boston? I would rather have it in our GP city and I suppose it is not settled yet where our GP city will be (ie. where we build the National Epic).

Yes, Great Prophets are valuable (and Spiral would add still more Great Prophet points), but the idea is to ramp up the points as quickly as possible because the earlier your Great People come, the more value they have AND the more you get over the course of the game. This is the point of a GP farm->GP early and often. In the end, I think we will be OK either way, but something to think about.

Thanks fellas. And no, it wasn't just like that, it was our 4th "anniversary" (not of marraige obviously).

Here's to Monty waiting a while to go psycho, at least long enough to take care of vicky.

NY? Boston? Uhm... I mean the city east of DC... Dont have access to the save... Wait... screenies...

Uhm Yeah... Boston...

Here are my suggestions for the next turnset:

-Switch production in NY to Market. Whipping is a possibility, but I think it does not have a granary yet?
-Keep cranking units in Boston and Philly in prep for vicky conquest (maybe pump out one missionary to spread Confucianism in Washington)
-Library->Great Lib. in Washington (maybe a worker in between?)
-Revolt to Org. Religion after 5 turns (25% hammer bonus on buildings is worth a turn of anarchy, plus we need a missionary to spread Confucianism to Washington)
-Start spamming cottages in Chicago (maybe a farm or two for faster growth?), use chops for library/courthouse
-Start on Drama after Music with the goal of trading for Theology so that we can burn the Great Artist from Music on Divine Right
-See if we can trade Caesar/Sal for Calendar and get those spices going for more happiness in Washington/NY

There are a couple of interesting posts in the strategy board that may be helpful on the farming for pop growth vs. early cottage spam issue:

Thanks rddc for those links... I was reading them just last night I think (or was it today)...

Personally I would keep the pools clean for just now... We dont have a need now for TGL, but it is nice to have IMO Boston is a good candidate... But the team doesnt seem to agree....

By all means spam NY... and chicago

It's my turn now i think. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I got it and will play tomorrow after work.

I'm really sorry guys i'm going with a familiy trip to a week at Germany, so i must ask for a skip up until 15/4.=\

No need for apology Sprite, we got you covered. Enjoy your vacation. I just got back from Dresden a few weeks ago, actually; hope it has warmed up since then (unless it's a ski trip that is).

I just had an idea, but I'm on the road with my Mac so I can't load the save to check the feasability. Can we run 3 priest specialists in New York to get a Great Prophet in 23 turns for a second shrine? I know there are two food resources there, so I think it is doable, at the cost of 0 growth and not developing any cottages around there. Of course, it is only worth it if New York will beat Washington to a GP.

Anyone want to check it out and see if it is workable or comment on the idea and associated trade-offs?

That trade at this time doesnt really seem opportune... We need NY to grow I think...

And we need some Military to take on vicky and appearently monty has some wishes... or so some say...

I think we need that more than the shrine...

Hello guys. I am very sorry. I have got a new job and it's totally killing me right now... I won't be able to play before tomorrow night. If anyone wants to play before me please do so. Otherwise I will play tomorrow.

Take your time, I can play only tomorrow as well (just got my gaming computer hooked on again)

I'm having some PC issues at the moment (never will I put off renewing Antivirus again). I won't be able to play until Monday night anyway, so I'm fine with it.

This is a good and interesting game we have going, though, so I'm keen to see how things develop.

Thx for your patience...
I have done my 10 turns.
- moved military units -> Chicago
- built some roads to connect cities and in order to move units faster in case of war
- switched to OR @ (680) : was worth it since most of our cities are producing buildings and I am
building the Great Library in Washington. We need missionaries, too.
- traded CoL vs Calendar + 70 Gold with Sal (we needed Gold for 100% science rate)
- Victoria switched to Vassalage and Serfdom @ 740
- Sal also switched to Vassalage and Serfdom @ 760
- researched Music THIS year so I changed to Drama, but we may consider something else this turn.
- Montezuma declared War on Caesar in 780.

Bad News: We had an English Revolution in Chicago in 720. Our citizens calmed down though, but we need to keep an eye on that. I went for culture there and I think a missionary to spread confuciasm may help.

Good your back and we are back in business.
Nice trade I think....
Music... Did we get an artist?
Monty vs JC => This should keep Monty bussy for a while?!

We should start on the english ASAP, TGL in WDC imho is still not the right choice. WDC iirc allready has a barracks. Thus units and missionaries, Where as boston did not => Barracks then Units... grmbl... anyway...

seems like a solid set tho, hope the Mailman sets me up good to go on Vicky...
