TM 01 - The alphabet games - America

@SpriteSODA: I think you are next.

I patched the game as well.
Is anyone holding back on the patch for any reason?

Good to see science up to spec again, we can run a 100% for a while I think... we have 400 in the kitty... Or we should go back to 80% to save up some Cash for Knight upgrades to Cavalry...
Cavalry is probably to far away for the War with Saladin (like 20 turns all together I think).

On London, yeah it is in some culture pressure. (Understatement)
But I think we can remidy that after Releiving ourselves of the Pain in the B... we call Saladin. He is going to DoW sooner or later, I am pretty sure. First I deny him paper, now the stopping of trade (did he close borders too?). With Cavalry tho we can probably make short work of the Darned English and relieve the pressure of of London.

I would suggest keeping Najran, It is nicely positioned and probably/hopefully has some usefull buildings in it.
Basra on the otherhand has quite a bit of overlap with NY & Philly I would probably raze it.
As for Damascus should we get that far, Raze... to close to the edge...

Tech wize... Liberalism => Nationalism =>> MT is the way I would go, followed by Economics...

I mostly agree with the tech path, namliam, except a short detour to Printing Press after Lib/Nationalism; but only if we burn the Great Prophet on beakers for PP. Should be about 4-5 turns to get and we will get a boatload of new commerce without having to do anything else.

No reason not to patch, I believe everyone has at this point.

I dont think the Boatload will be that big... Maybe we should keep the prophet at that...

If we go for economics after MT we get the free merchant, who can (together with the Prophet) start us a GA, which the Taj will do too... Never mind...

Uhm...
Oh yeah techs... I would still go for 'my path' followed by Economics... only then would I take PP. I dont think we have that many towns and villages...

Perhaps in the next few turnsets we should take special care in developing some of the cottages left out there in favour of working the ones that are allready towns?

If we can get Versailles in London, now that would net us a boatload of coin. Now and/or in the (near) future when we anex the remainder of England. which should be pretty much asap after taking a town or 2 or 3 of of saladins hands.
Watch out for his camels tho... They are mean things ...

Yeah, you are probably right about PP, especially if we are going to make a run at Economics before Constitution/Democracy. Still up in the air as to what to do with the Great Prophet, maybe just hang on to him until we are ready for PP - the other option being to add him as a super-priest in NY. Anyone else have an opinion?

Super priest gives 5 gold (coin, not commerce) and 2 hammers per turn. Golden Ages have never really impressed me in any of my games. Taj Mahal is generally the only way I get them in my sp games because there is almost always a better use for GP (in my view). Maybe in the late game when we are much larger it would be worth it to spend two GP on.

Specialist vs GA is the story of the long term vs the short.
GA is short term giving a short term but big boost to production and commerce.
Where the specialist gives something small for a long time.

Adding 5 coins to New York (with grocer and market) makes 7 coins... adding in a bank makes 10 I think...
10 Coins a turn, we are at turn 200 how many left?
2 hammers a turn Times ...
Thats the gain we get from the specialist.

What do we get out of the GA? 8 turns of +1 hammer on each hammer producinging tile and +1 Commerce from each commerce producing tile.
We have 9 cities. Lets say each city (I havent actually counted) has 5 tiles producing hammers. So thats 8 times 6 (forges +25%) = 48 hammers per town * 9 = 450 hammers / 2 (we need 2 GPs) = 225.
Lets round that down to 110 turns to equal.

Lets assume the same is true for Commerce. roughly adding about 225 beakers per GP over the course of 8 turns. We have libs near everywhere I think and got some religious boni around so make up for the 25% by the forges for production.
225 (beakers) / 10 (coins) = 22 turns...
With more coins we can sustain higher % science... Ultimatly converting the Coins back to beakers.

We have a GA comming up soon-ish anyway (Taj hopefully) and the 22 turn turnaround on the commerce (if that is about right) isnt that bad. I would agree to go for the specialist in NY.

While on the subject of coin... We have the Islam holy city AND the Minaret...
Why are we not spamming Islamic missionaries and Building us some islamic temples and stuff. Each city returns 1 coin to NY, if each city builds temple and the other one... thats 2 more coins. Thats about 30-40 coins with the modifiers counted in we are missing out on...
IIRC thats 10-20% on the slider currently...

Yes, we are for sure not taking advantage of our double holy city at the moment. If we stay in Org. Religion we should be able to convert our cities and most of Vicky's within around 20 turns with concerted effort. Of course, we sacrifice the units and building upgrades. I did spread Islam to Boston for the purpose of mish spamming, but still had it producing military during my turns. With Seattle coming online as a military producer, maybe we have Boston spread Islam for the next couple turnsets, as Seattle is a bit closer to the action anyway.

We still need Banking, especially if we will make a run at first to economics. We should be able to trade for it fairly soon (I think only Saladin has it, maybe we can extort it after we kick his butt).

Well, my set of turns was'nt eventful as im feeling to out of the game to be risking major movements.
I didnt dclare war on Saladin cus he's more powerful and im afraid that while we will be busy fighting him, Monty will join the party as the peace contract is expiring in my first turns.

0: Press Enter.
1: Boston Longbow->Longbow, Phil Cat->Mace.
looks like Julius wants to settle near Monty, us and Viccy:

2: :sleep:
3: Boston Long->Mace, Phil Mace->Conf. Missonare.
I see that we are at a real diplomatical mess after Saladin's change of religion - we dont have any friends. I think Julius is an option.

4: Phil Mace->Knight. Julius declares war on Mansa =O
5: :sleep:
6: Phil Knight->Mace.
7: Liberalisim done, taken Nationalisim for free and start research Printing Press.
8: Viccy demends Philosofy, nope. Washington Universitiy->Tag' Mahal.
Phil Mace->Knight.
9: Phil Knight->Mace.
10: Boston Mace->Long.

My plan is to convert Julius to Conf. The problem is that we can't reach him, so im following his settler to convert that city and hope he will convert=\

Hmz, we are going for war right? Why not pick MT?

I had a look at the save... we have a nice pile of units .... and we still have our prophet....

The warrior, Sword and Axe will make nice cheap 'defenders' for core cities...
With 10 Knights, 16 Mace and 9 Cats (and more on the way) we are good to go on Saladin I think... Remember his horse ... Uhm ... Camel beasts....
And we may need to rearrange a little here and there... but looks good.

On the Taj, I did some checking... no one has Nationalism yet so we can hold off a little on that till we have MT. So we can stomp out some Cavs like there is no tommorow... Meanwhile we can have DC work some of those cottages (yes we still have em) and spam some Missionaries from DC.

On Banking... Mansa is willing to trade it...

On London, I sure hope it doesnt flip... Just 3 more turns on Versailles.

On Atlanta, I am just noticing now... Why on earth does it have Cottages
Why is it producing a University? When it has like 7 or 8 hills to work? Farm and mine that ... beatifull town...

Now Caterburry is the reverse... Why is it getting a workshop? For a science town? It has 3 grass hills to work for the hammers it needs. As well as 2 plains tiles.
this means we need 3+2 extra food overall. It has allready got 3 farms, but two of them have fallen to "English culture" for now. So just a farm maybe 2 more, cottage the rest of it...

Finaly a small note on the power side of things...Look at who is building some power as well?

Don't have the save right now, but I don't recall Atlanta having that many hills. I thought it was always going to be a commerce town. Are we talking Seattle or some other city? And ya, a workshop in Canterbury doesn't seem right. Anyhow, who's up next? Whoever it is, add the Great Prophet to NY and put a temp. hold on the Taj Mahal.

For a nice screeny of the two I am talking about I would refer back to this one:

pic

You can see Atlanta with the Sign "Settle here" and canterburry is obviously there.

Its a screeny from awhile back but one can clearly make out them hills. 4 due East, 2 North and 2 West.
Atleast 3 of them hills are plains, so to work em all we need 3*2 + 5*1 = 11 extra food minus the normal two offcourse... leaving 9.

Lucky with Biology we get 2 food so we can leave one, two or three of the most well developed cottages...

And a special repeat for rddc... :p

I dont know if we should trade banking with mansa, cus i think we can befriends with julius which is fighting him

Doh! I was thinking of Chicago. Ya, Atlanta is kind of a hybrid city. Maybe not a bad idea to put a University there as we will need six for the Oxford U.

Additional thought: we really need to grow our commerce cities, as the time for them to produce for us is running out. Still no Great Scientist for an Academy, grrrr.

About trading for Banking, I don't think that tech trades affect diplomatic relations, only resource/open borders deals, but I could be wrong.

Hey guys. I am sorry. I have really no time atm. I have to get off this game.
Anyways good luck.
