A quiet and uneventful turnset ... except for losing a frigate to a caravel at 95% odds :gripe:

We learnt railways ... and started building rails all around mines and lumbermills. We do not have enough workers, but it is a good thing previous player started to produce some.

tnt1-AD1817-rail.jpg

Despite the signs, I think a city which grab more resources is superior, thus:

tnt1-AD1818-new-city.jpg

We have a great scientist borned:

tnt1-AD1818-GScientist.jpg

I suggest using him to lightbulb scimeth. But before that, build some monastries. We need to spread Judaism and Christianity for happiness.

Why? Because I am headed towards Constitution for Representation. Once we get out of HR, happiness problem would hit us hard.

Nationalism is in late in my 10-turns (Nat is on path towards constitution). I started the Taj Mahal.

tnt1-AD1822-nationalism.jpg

>>> The Save (1825AD) <<<

We have to decide whether to go war path and grab us some off-continent cities. If we decide not to, then we should should choose some city to build the Forbidden Palace. I recommend not to take city off-continent, and focus on space race.

I prefer to run Organized Religion a couple of turns to create missionaries
instead of building some monasteries. It's too late to build them and Scientific Method
opens too many techs our empire needs, like Biology. Also, we should collect some more religions.

1827 AD (2)
Constitution is known, start to research Scientific Method.
Switch civics : Representation + Mercantilism
Tokugawa, Hannibal and Huayna Capac already running Mercantilism.
Stalin, Cyrus and Brennus have only a total of 6 (small) cities.
Use the Great Scientist to speed up Scientific Method.

IBT 1828 AD
I almost never go for the Taj Mahal. Reason, the AI always rushes it with an engineer.
Previous turn Tokugawa got an Great Engineer and guess what. He also finished Versailles.

1829 AD (4)
Awlil founded.

1830 AD (5)
Scientific Method is known, start to research Biology. We have oil.

IBT 1830 AD

1831 AD (6)

IBT 1831 AD
I like the Celtic music, but I don't like this message.

refusebrennusuu8.jpg

I also refuse to trade world maps with Huayna Capac.
Bad news, the Germans captured Carthage.
In the near future we have to do something about our military.
Our enemies don't have Astronomy yet.

1832 AD (7)
Rush the library in Alemanni.

IBT 1832 AD
Augustus Caesar removed the Ottomans.

1834 AD (9)
Enrico Fermi has been born in Timbuktu. We can use him to speed up Physics.

IBT 1834 AD

Ok got it. :scan: I looked around at the save and decided that I will continue on the building of infrastructure. I am guessing the team as a whole just wishes to go on to a space race victory. So I will be trying to get us techs and builds to support that. Due the current time, I will have to play this tomorrow.

Part I

I went through all the cities and decided that there would be some .:whipped: Due to time constrains I will not list the cities I whipped but know that a good portion of the builds to be completed on my first turn are because of it. I did this now so that the next player will not have to worry about the unhappiness from it, and because the production of all the cities are really poor IMHO. We need some Factories.

Someone listed the “Most Advance Civilizations” where we were at the top:goodjob:.

civ4screenshot0028xa7.jpg

Tokugawa then came with this deal:

civ4screenshot0029sj7.jpg

I did not think the gold was enough for the beaker difference so I said no. Tokugawa would not consider any amount higher so there was no deal.

Rifling came in.

civ4screenshot0034dy0.jpg

Set us on Corporation (4 Turns) for Wall Street. I did some pillaging as well around Roman Cities.

Tokugawa then asked for this.

civ4screenshot0035fk3.jpg

Again I said no. I saw no reason to give him more happiness. But Huayna also asked for this.

civ4screenshot0036qx6.jpg

To which I said yes and further made this trade.

civ4screenshot0037oz9.jpg

I noticed a Japanese Galleon earlier but paid it no attention, and got this little surprise.

civ4screenshot0038nc8.jpg

Louis Pasteur was born in Paris.:crazyeye:

civ4screenshot0039wb4.jpg

This came up shortly afterwards.

civ4screenshot0040gr4.jpg

Corporation came in, I went for Physics next. I thought great I can now build Wall Street :D, but not enough Banks :aargh::wallbash:. And Old Sarai got Hinduism in 1850.

Part II

Since I was running low on gold I checked on Tokugawa to see what he would give for Chemistry:

civ4screenshot0042vk3.jpg

I then checked with Huayna to see if I could relieve him his gold.

civ4screenshot0043vb5.jpg

Now for the bad news :(:

civ4screenshot0044lf6.jpg

I gifted Hannibal silver in the hopes of getting a tech off of him but it was a no go . Next player can cancel the trade if they do not see any value in it. I burned one of the Great Scientists we had on Physics. We got it first so we now have two Great Scientists in our possession. I choose Democracy since we are now starting to get some unhappiness from Japan’s Emancipation:gripe:. And the Celtic are now gone.

At the end of my turn set this how things looked:

We got Democracy, but I haven't switched to Emancipation, yet 'cos Slavery is so powerfull. We don't have too much penalty, yet.
Burned the 2 GS on Electricity (2x3105:science:) I think settling them is not worth now (too late to pay off). Electr. is on next turn, can be followed by Assembly line and Combustion?

I agree we should think about defense soon.
Bismarck almost finished Egypt. He has Chemistry (grenadiers, frigates) :(

Played 5 turns, and had to stop for team decision.

But first, one gripe. Hope people don't mind my grumpiness, I just hope we could all improve by learning from each others mistakes.

There is absolutely no sense of city specialization. Why Wall Street in the capitol? It has no cottages, no shrines, no anything to warrant a WS except for the extra 8 commerce due to palace. In fact, a WS is wasted hammers anywhere in our empire, except maybe Paris.

Why are we building barracks and rifleman in Ningshia when it has only a pitiful 3 hammers?

A few cities has specialist that is far from desired, and most of our cities have everything: Mint, Libabry, Market, Barracks.

Anyway, made a few changes, adjusted trades to get all the gold I can from Toku and HC.

5 turns later, the fateful spring day of 1870, here is a decision the team must make as a whole:

I am inclined to take it, as that would seal our victory, whichever path we choose. However, I don't know what that would mean to our permanent peace/war status. Since Toku is at PP or PW with some Civ in which we are at the opposite state.

For example, consider HC ~ he is our friend, but at PW with Toku:

What do people think abt this twist in events?

I knew this moment would come. ;)
The consequenses are, we declare on Tokugawa's enemies and he declares
war on our enemies. This probably means we won't have any friends left. :(
We don't have much choice, if we don't ally he will ally with someone else
and maybe then we are at war with Japan too.

Sorry on WS, I just checked the gpt output not the raw commerce
Toku can ally with Rome if not with us and we could only ally with HC then.
I would prefer Toku over HC.

Indeed, the PA results in us declaring on HC and Stalin, while Toku declared on Augutus. The only other civ that is not at war with us is Hannibal.

I arranged the following trade after alliance:

Toku has a very high beaker output. For example, when I click on Combustion, it says 10 turns. When I ask toku to research that as well, it immediately fall to a surprising 1 turn.

I got us assembly line and artillery this way as well, and then Toku go for industrialism, while I decided to go for Rocketry. Both will be done in 10 turns.

With the research power of Toku, space will be faster than conquest or domination. But of-course the warpath is more fun. So, up to you guys to decide which way to go: domination (we have a combine 30% land, I think) or space.

We got a scientists, suggest hanging on to him for a golden age.

One funny thing after PA is this message:

tnt1-AD1871-SoL.jpg

WTH? I click on SoL again ...

I think Toku is also building the SoL prior to PA, so we both receive the same message I think. Since the human player's turn always come first, I think we get to continue the SoL and Toku did not.

I have tried to build more frigates (they auto-upgrade to destroyers when oil got connected), and also some machine guns and infantries in case some did manage to land. But I think we should focus on naval builds and sink any attempt at landing before that happens.
