I like to see other reference to play in the future so I made this thread, here is my top 5 rpg btw:
In Snes:
1. Chrono Trigger: I play this game like.... 10 time already? if you haven't play Chrono Trigger, do play this game!
Link to video.
and suprisingly this game appear to be strongly in favor with Christianity

(if you want to play the game don't watch this video because it contain spoiler.
2. Breath of Fire 2: Breath of Fire 2 is the best of Breath of fire series, the dark backgrounds and stories combine with colourful, unique environment, large map, various place to travel, a mysterious adventure that you don't where it lead, remind you of the adventure of Odysseus that is direct by Tim Burton. This game is highly underrated. I doubt this game is for everybody especially with its limited graphic and music system, but if you seek for the story element instead of gameplaying and graphic, you may try this game, and the graphic is not as horrible as Lufia, don't worry! And I regard this game have a very strong and beautiful soundtrack (and that is quite relative statement)

3. Secret of Mana:
I thought mostly old gamer that own snes know this games and already play it. There so many good and enjoyable part of this game, one of them is you can play this rpg together with your friends or partner! I think this is the only 2 player rpg that I ever know (the other is legend of mana, but the downside of legend of mana the 2nd player force to play varied character depend on the mission.)

4. Final Fantasy 6: peoples say this is the best of the final fantasy series.
Link to video.
5. Breath of Fire 1: not as good as breath of fire 2, I don't advise peoples to try this, but because I can't see other alternative for snes (I haven't play earthbound), so I put breath of fire 1 in the fifth of my list.
Playstation
1. Xenogear: despite of its content seem to be like highly effected with Nietzsche philosophy, and anti-God notion, but as a Muslims because we must also negate any type of God as we say "there is no Gods" then later on we say except Allah. So I thought if I see this games on trying to destroy the false God, as the axe of Abraham destroy groups of idols, on that view I thought this game just try to destroy the false God (idols) and btw I really like the game and soundtrack. Eventough I don't agree with many of the game content and philosophy but on the other side there other things that I found interesting.
Link to video.
2. Breath of Fire 3: not as good as breath of fire 2, but this is also one of the best game in playstation rpg.
Link to video.
3. Final Fantasy 7, lots of nostalgia, huge map, fun gameplay, nice graphic, interesting story but of course ff7 is not the best of PS rpg and highly overrated, but really really worth to try if you haven't play it yet.
Link to video.
4. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night: I play this game a lots, the best series of Castlevania, and Alucard is not from the boring whip equipped Belmont family, that make it more interesting. And it have the best soundtrack of video game history, Michiru Yamame is awesome. If you haven't play it yet, try it!
Link to video.
5. Thousand arms: rpg mix with strong humour and dating system, well I spend lots of laughter in this J-RPG, if you really want to seek an rpg game that is colorful, fun, simple and funny in the same time, you can try thousand arms.
Link to video.
PC best 5 rpg.
1. Morrowind. Open map, you can do what ever you want and there is no restriction to kill any character and it still deliver you an ending, and many other aspects that make Morrowind probably one of the best rpg I ever play.
Link to video.
2. Oblivion: Oblivion with mods is not just a game, it is a work of art. Beautiful graphic and landscape, rich place to explore (far from being repetitive as peoples suggest, no not at all! you should try this game!) I even hardly decide which one better between Morrowind and Oblivion.
Link to video.
3. Knight of The Old republic.
What can I say? one of the best game! (too tired to explain)
Link to video.
4. Mass effect 1 and 2: haven't play the third one yet, I heard it have terrible ending, so I don't want to try it and prepare myself to be disappointed in the ending execution. Ending is important part of the game, it is like a rewards after hours you spend time to win the game. (no need for trailer this game is highly popular in this forum)
5. Neverwinter Night: I try this game before I try Baldurgate, I can't really enjoy Baldurgate but I really really enjoy Neverwinter night and its expansion, also this game have many interesting character like the female heroine Aribeth.
Link to video.
I don't have ps2, ps3, xbox, etc, the only console I have were sega genesis, snes, and ps. My first encounter with rpg was on snes (secret of mana-the first time I force myself to learn English) so I can't make top5 rpg list in sega genesis.
edit: fix the youtube link also I like to mention other great/good games that I don't mention yet that have an rpg element in it? first is Mount and Blade warband, maybe MnB warband I can put it in number 3 list as a best game in pc (replacing knight of the old republic) but because is not entirely rpg I refrain myself to do it.
Also Front Mission 3 in PS, final fantasy tactic those are good games.
