I have always been a fan of strategy games, but I never got into the Total War series. I want to get into it, cause the tactical battles look awesome, and the overall gameplay seems amazing. Which should I get?

My Favorites Are Rome: Total War and Medieval II: Total War.
From best to worst (vanilla games): Shogun, Medieval 1, Medieval 2, Rome, Napoleon (from what I've heard about it), Empire. Even though Rome is low on the list, it's still a great game. The best battles are from Medieval 2 though, closely followed by Rome.

Most people start with Rome. Alternatively you could wait for Shogun 2.
I'd probably try a demo for Medieval 1 or Shogun 1 before you get either of them, because you might get put-off by the 2-D graphics. But the only game in the series that I would outright not buy is Empire, because even with the best mods out there, singleplayer is still facepalmingly atrocious.

Get Rome, It is the most basic one around there for beginners, and a good step up for the other total war games.

Stetsons are cool.
I would get Rome.Not only is it easy to learn,but it is a great game.
Of course,mods make Rome twice as great.
